COURTYARD
COMBINED MASSING AND CHUNK MODEL
Situated in Red Hook, Brooklyn, this proposal for a maritime middle school incorporates multiple courtyards with interlocking spaces that combine and decombine through movable partition walls and inside-outside relations. Begun from an investigation of private and public spaces through a grid of sine waves, this project evolved into a multi-faceted school that respects the need for both shared and individual learning.

Following the logic of angles in a game of pool, Collision rethinks the fire stair as a more dynamic circulation, which generates larger program spaces and smaller private residential spaces, as well as impressions on the facade. Originally a study on the relationship between two buildings through circulation in a triangular plot of land in Downtown Brooklyn, the project has evolved into a study of the ways that private and public spaces can be stratified. HALLWAY WITH GREEN WALLS
Using Theo Van Doesburg’s Counter Composition VI painting as the basis for the plan, this flower market makes an adaptive re-use of a lumber yard in the Lower East Side fronting Sarah D. Roosevelt Park and uses elements of earth, air, and water to create an interior that exudes lightness, which contradicts its harsh exterior.

COMPOSITE SITE MASSING MODEL
COMPOSITE OBJECT MODELS
This studio focused on introducing principles of design through an iterative and recursive process of making. With a series of abstract exercises, the studio created formal, spatial, and material relations by producing a physical object derived from casting negative and positive records of familiar objects.

Further developed as a Manhattan play space, issues of the site as it relates to the program and relationships between interior and exterior spaces were also brought into consideration.

THRESHOLD SECTION DRAWING
Through drawing analyses, a “threshold object” was proposed that speculates on possible transformations (experiential/ physical/geometric) between specific spaces. Resulting from the hybridization of different types of thresholds, the full transitional threshold has distinct architectural and geometric characteristics depicted through a series of drawings and 3D models.

CORNER RENDER
An exercise on spatial perception, Resolution explores the articulation of spaces through interiorities. This is expressed through the gradiations of the curvilinear language and various depth levels to the pixelation of the interior’s surfaces.
