PRESENTED IN THIS PORTFOLIO ARE SOME OF MY BEST DESIGNS.

01 VICTIM BLAMING

Storyboarding + Animation Victim-blaming comes in many forms, and is oftentimes more subtle, and unconscious. It can apply to cases of rape and sexual assault, but also to more mundane crimes, like a person who gets pickpocketed and is then chided for his decision to carry his wallet in his back pocket. Any time someone defaults to questioning what a victim could have done differently to prevent a crime, he or she is participating, to some degree, in the culture of victim-blaming. I created a storyboard for an animated video and the presentation described the phenonmena in today’s society, the psychology of victim blaming. and how people should be educated about this issue. Check out the demo of the animation on https://streamable.com/tvhjp Check out the storyboard on https://issuu.com/ceciliaso29/docs/display_ board

When the security of cials violently removed Dr. David Dao from the United Airlines fight, why did a certain group of people accuse Dr. Dao of his uncooperative behaviour? Why did some media relate his criminal past to his mistreatment?

When a female celebrity’s private sex tapes were leaked, why did a certain group of people blame the celebrity of being inaccurate and careless? Why did they blame the celebrity instead of the one who reveal the tapes to the public?

If women get raped, some people won’t blame the perpetrators, but lay blame on women’s own behaviour and moral standards. For example, when a woman is walking on the street with a short skirt, most of the people will appreciate it.

But, if a woman with a short skirt get raped, some of the people comment that wearing short skirts cause the rape and she deserve it. This is Victim-blaming.

02 INFLIGHT ACTIVITY PACK App Design + Book Design

Children during airplane rides always become anxious from the boredom and lengthy journey. To solve this lack of fun and attention, a distraction of entertainment is a necessity. The aims of this project is to create an engagement solution for families travelling with children. I created an interactive game app and kids pack for long and short haul flights. This package targets children of ages 3-6 and is designed as a set of entertaining activities for children to relief their boredom during prolong trips. Check out the demonstration of the game on https://streamable.com/ipsov Check out the book on https://issuu.com/ceciliaso29/docs/inflight_ activity_book_modified

‘Piggies Play’ Game app

Feature 3: Escape Mr Wolfie The three little piggies have annoyed Mr Wolfie so badly that they will chase them to far corners of the world! Feature 2: Travel the world From United Kingdom to Australia, the USA to India. Catch a flight and fly through 6 levels, in 6 different countries, each with unique obstacles and challenges! Feature 3: Collet Coins and find Special Objects! Help the Piggies to find the ironical items in every single country. Just one of many fun achievements to unlock!

The concept design is based on the story of ‘Three Little Pigs And The Big Bad Wolf’, but transforming into ‘Three Little Pigs Travel Around the World’. One of the reasons of using this story is to resonate and recall parents’ childhood mermories , and thus engage with their children during the activity.

03 TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD Book Cover Design

The project is based on the Penguin Random House Competition brief. The brief is to illustrate a different cover for the book To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. My objectives are to illustrate the cover in a more emotive and delicate way, and represent the story in a new modern style. As the book is an adult fiction, my target audience would be young adults for teens or older.

04 ARABIAN  NIGHTS THE LITTLE HUNCHBACK EBook Design

For this project, I designed and produced an electronic book based on the Arabian Nights. Although the text is old, the simple, bold cartoon illustration in which I interpreted it and it can give relevance to the readers. I lay the text out in a little scrollable text box that can plausibly serve the user and to either generate or acquire imagery that supports the function of legibility for the reader. The age group of my reader is ages 8-12, who is able to read a chunk of text at an intermediate English level. Check out on https://issuu.com/ceciliaso29/docs/ebook

The story displays on the iPad or on an Android tablet.

My final outcome is a working eBook — suitable for deployment on an iPad or on an Android tablet, with 30 screens.

05 My First Personal Website Website

As a graphic designer, it is crucial to do selfpromotion by widely using the social media and the Internet; Creating a website is the straight forward and common way to promote myself. I develop a simple interface that will address common operations: home button, next page, previous page, jump to section as well as providing hierarchically meaningful labels and navigation. But more than this I did this in a beautiful way that elegantly frames your work. I aimed to create an interactive website.thus I added a lot specific extra functionality (e.g. pop-ups) or interaction (e.g. rollovers). This one-page website enables visitor to vie my work through the oho gallery and contact me online. The web design were done with the use of Dreamweaver (HTML 5,CSS), Illustrator and Photoshop.

06 CDSSA PRESENTS: HKUSU BUSINESS ENRICHING AVENUE 2015 Voluntary work Postcard Design

This set of design was designed to support Business and Economics Association HKUSU. They were free souvenirs, where were distributed to visitors joining the event. Given that the theme of that event was the beauty of nature; The tagline of the event is “Alight upon the jungle paradise. Hence, my design contained floral elements and patterns juxtaposing with encouraging quotes.

07 DRAWING BAG DESIGN FOR JOINT SCHOOL SCIENCE EXHIBITION 2013 Commissioned work Bag Design

As the theme of the exhibition was all about Science and exploration, the idea of the design screen-printed on the front of the bag came from the “Space Cadet Pinball”. In the game of the “Space Cadet Pinball”, players as a member of a space fleet that completes missions to increase their rank. Every bump to the pinball travelling through the table seems like visitors walking round the exhibition to explore science and to get inspiration.

08 CARE FOR THE SOLITARY ELDERLY Social campaign

The aim of this campaign was to raise awareness to the solitary elder in Hong Kong. Refer to my research and interviews, most of the solitary elder feel distressed because of lack of care and love from their families. Besides, because of their limits on mobility, they could just often stay at home. In this case, it may lead to depression and an increased risk of home accidents. Therefore, I created a set of postcards and poster visualising the contrast of loneliness and enjoyment of family union.

The act of sending 2 sets of postcards to the solitary elderly show the care and conciousness from the society.

A poster depicting the dream of a solitary elderly is to resonate sympathy towards them.

09 LEICESTER TRIATHLON CLUB VEST Logo Competition (Winner)

This is a competition held by Leicester Triathlon Club, which I joined in 2014. I am grateful that my design was voted the winner of the club logo competition and was at some stage incorporated in their club kit. Their name ‘Leicester Triathlon Club’ was required to feature in my design. I kept some form of zebra stripe on the club kit as they had the pattern on their previous logo design. I also composed the silhouette of three most popular forms, involves swimming, cycling, and running in my logo design. All in all, I think I won the competition is that my design is modern, delicate and fit their aims.

10 DESIGN MUSEUEM KENSINGTON REDESIGN PROJECT Coursework 2016 Branding / Identity

My approach is to focus the connectivity of people and design and utilise the architecture of new Design Museum building as visual inspiration. Considering the two buildings as a silhouette, the Kensington museum has a much more angular design, compared to the building at Shad Thames, which has a more rectangular appearance. The roof of The Kensington building is composed of triangular shapes that change depending on where the viewer stands. Yet, I deem the top view of the roof of the building as the best perspective to feature the architecture of the building. This concept is captured in the identity, where a series of in nite angles is visualised through an origami hyperbolic paraboloid pattern. This pattern is therefore symbolic of the Design Museum, allowing it to be used without text where necessary. The pattern is used broadly across all design outcomes, but also as a guide on which to create a harmonious composition. Hence, a signage system is also created from the paraboloid pattern. My final outcome consists three aspects of exploration, which are print, digital display and the urban environment, to present the identity of Design Museum. Besides, my nal outcome is a versatile identity based around connecting individuals, whether people or design. Utilising the aesthetic styling of the Design Museum roof, the concept is brought together with an angular slash on the logotype, which create bespoke typographic solutions. The Design Museum is the home of design, which boasts an identity devised to bring together individuals from all around the world to give their opinion on the world of design.

The shape of paraboloid can also be used to create bespoke iconography. This iconography can then be used on the website, on posters and within the signage.

11 Pokémon GO Analysis Infographic

This is a work for Lamplight Analytics. Pokémon Go is poised to become the most successful mobile app of all time worldwide, with fans from all around the world taking to social media to voice their love for the game – or disappointment that it’s not in their home country yet. At a deeper level, Pokémon Go’s use of augmented reality demonstrates how blurred the line separating the real world we live in and the online world we interact with on a daily basis has become. Here is an infographic I’ve created with some impressive numbers that provide a better understanding of the impact the game has had so far.

12 Casino Resorts Analysis Infographic

This is a work for Lamplight Analytics. During my previous internship in Lamplight Analytics, I was given a project to analysis the ranking of Macau’s most popular casino resorts as shown by social media conversations. Here is an infographic I’ve created with some measured include general conversations, comments, shares and likes to provide an understanding of how engaged social media users are with conversations about particular brands to evaluate brand popularity across a variety of social networking services.

Facebook posts, and animated gif for Lamplight Analytics.
