New Nordic

Winter 2015

By the leading Scandinavian designers We are striving to expand the strong Scandinavian design tradition with new and original perspectives. In fact, our name MUUTO, inspired by the Finnish word muutos, means new perspective. To us good design starts with the person. We handpick the brightest design talent and the leading contemporary designers in Scandinavia and give them the freedom to express their individual story through everyday objects. Some want to alter the world, others find passion in colour and shape and others still, draw deeply from personal experience. How do they see a vase, a lamp, a chair or any other everyday object? You will know our design because it has muutos. Objects made sublime through new perspectives, enjoyed across the world, representing the best of Scandinavian design today.

oslo chair anderssen and voll “We wanted to make a sofa series with a light and inviting appearance, without compromising on comfort. The horizontal division in the seat is important, as it allowed us to add extra comfort in the lower part of the furniture while maintaining an airy overall expression. The Oslo sofa series is crafted on the west coast of Norway and with its embracing and rounded softness it stands as a natural extension to the Nordic touch and friendliness that characterises the designs of Muuto.

The proportions of the chair are exactly right, and the chair is able to combine small elegant curves with longer straight lines in the quest of becoming an ever-relevant furniture.

under the bell

iskos berlin “Under The Bell is not just a lampshade. When hung over a table or in an open environment it creates its own space within the bigger space. That way, the lamp embraces and shelters the table and people beneath it – both physically and in a more abstract sense. The recycled plastic felt even absorbs sound and helps improve the acoustics of your room.”

The design shows a precise attention to details and has references to architectural principals derived from modernism. The sleek long lines give the sofa a modern yet timeless expression. Connect the modules to create a sofa of your choice.

corky glass carafe

Andreas engesvik “The shape of the Corky carafe is inspired by the archetypical bottle. It is a straightforward combination of glass and cork that functions equally well as a wine carafe, a water jug or even a milk bottle. Corky has simple and familiar form but with a characteristic and oversized detail. – The cork is large, easy to operate and visible in use.”
