Honor and Memorial Pet Tribute Walk September 14th, 2014 was National Pet Memorial Day. The Cedar Bend Humane Society had their first annual Honor and Memorial Pet Tribute Walk at Bigs Woods Lake in Cedar Falls, IA. Participants sent in tributes in memory of pets previously in their lives, and tributes to honor pets currently in their lives. Each participant’s tribute was posted along Big Woods Lake walking trail. Everyone took home a gift bag and a pewter remembrance charm. The following pages are the pet tributes from this walk. You hope you will enjoy these thoughtful tributes and the memories everyone was willing to share. Next year the Memorial and Pet Tribute Walk will be on Sunday, September 13 at Big Woods Lake Recreation Area in Cedar Falls. We hope you can join us.

Coal In Honor of Coal Laures When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals, the fish, the birds, and bees. And when at last He'd finished not one was quite the same. He said, "I'll walk this world of mine and give each one a name." And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went, a little creature followed Him until it's strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth, and in the sky and sea, the little creature said, "Dear Lord, there's not one left for me." Kindly the Father said to him, "I've left you to the end. I've turned my own name back to front and called you dog, My friend." -Unknown

Buddy In Memory of Buddy Laures When God had made the earth and sky, the flowers and the trees, He then made all the animals, the fish, the birds, and bees. And when at last He’d finished not one was quite the same. He said, “I’ll walk this world of mine and give each one a name.” And so He traveled far and wide and everywhere He went, a little creature followed Him until it’s strength was spent. When all were named upon the earth, and in the sky and sea, the little creature said, “Dear Lord, there’s not one left for me.” Kindly the Father said to him, “I’ve left you to the end. I’ve turned my own name back to front and called you dog, My friend.” -Unknown

Axel In Honor of Axel Axel, an almost 3 year old boxer-bassethound mix, came into our lives via Cedar Bend Humane Society almost 2 years ago. He is the most loving, affectionate, positive, gentle, confident, patient, smart, funny, friendly, loyal, hyper at times, and lazy at times, dog. It's hard to remember how our lives were before Axel. Somehow very naturally he encouraged us to spend more evenings at home, more weekends outside, care for other animals in need, among other positive changes. Thank you, Axel, for everything you have given us thus far! Nadia & Ryan, Waterloo

Samantha Joe Morehouse In Memory of Samantha Joe Morehouse The bestest baby ever! We miss you every day! Love, Mom, Dad and RMH

Max In Memory of Max: 10/24/2000 - 6/19/2014 We thought of Max with love today. But that is nothing new. We thought about him yesterday. And days before that too. We think of Max in silence. We often speak his name. Now all we have are memories. And his picture in a frame. His memory is our keepsake. From which we'll never part. God has Max in his keeping. We have him in our hearts.

Teddy In Honor of Teddy Teddy is an amazing dog. We resued him two years ago and our lives are so different with him. He reminds us of our other dog we had for 17 years. He loves to play and enjoys going go to the dog park and playing with his sister. Anna

Skyler In Honor of Skyler Skyler was my sister’s best friend until she went off to college a couple of years ago. Skyler would follow her around. Homer was her companion also. She loves being around people. Anna

Homer In Memory of Homer Homer was my dog for 17 years. He was there for me since I was 4 years old. I got him because I was able to learn how to tie my shoes. Homer would sleep with me in the camper or the backyard whenever I wanted. He was a great companion for me and my family. Anna Vernon

Toby In Memory of Toby

Before humans die, they write their last Will & Testament, give their home & all they have, to those they leave behind. If, with my paws, I could do the same, this is what I’d ask… To a poor and lonely stray, I’d give my happy home; my bowl and cozy bed, soft pillow and all my toys; the lap, which I loved so much; the hand that stroked my fur; and the sweet voice that spoke my name. I’d Will to the sad, scared, shelter dog the place I had in my human’s loving heart, of which there seemed no bounds. So, when I die, please do not say, “I will never have a pet again, for the loss and the pain is more than I can stand.” Instead, go find an unloved dog, one whose life has held no joy or hope, and give MY place to HIM. This is the only thing I can give… The love I left behind. – Author Unknown We adopted Toby from Cedar Bend Humane Society in December 2007. Toby unexpectedly passed away on May 20, 2014 due to illness at nearly 9 years old. Our beloved Toby who forever changed our lives…is truly missed every day and now forever in our hearts. Love - Joe, Kristina and Alex (and fur-brothers Max, Hugo and Calvin)

Maggie Mae In Loving Memory of Maggie Mae I thought I was rescuing her when she was 11 months old but she rescued me. She was the best friend I have ever known and I miss her every day. I had always believed that guardian angels had wings until I met Maggie, now I know that my angel has 4 paws. We Love You Maggie, Dadd, Sunshine, & Ziggy

Coco In Memory of our departed pet Coco.

You found us and we gave you a forever home. You were perfect in every way and provided us with constant love and companionship. We miss you and think of you daily. We feel your presence and occasionally see you out of the corner of our eye, lying in your favorite spots. The void in our lives is beyond explanation, we find comfort in the years we had together. Marie Jackson Grundy Center, IA

Izzy In Honor of Izzy

Meet Izzy! Running the streets and now safe in our home! Meghan

Wally In Honor of Wally Wally, you are our noble fella with a heart of gold! No person can replicate the expression of joy of a dog when you return home from a long day at work or from just a small trip to the store. Oh, how our dogs love to love us and teach us to love in return. We learn a lot about the pure joy of being alive from our four legged family members. Today we honor our dogs in heaven, Tyke & Sydney, and our dogs at home, Wally and Molly. You will always be in our hearts! Sam and Amy

Molly In Honor of Molly You have just a touch of crazy, but we wouldn’t have it any other way! You run like an olympic sprinter and never do sit still. We hope some day you’ll learn to relax....until then we love your energy and spirit! Sam and Amy

Sydney In Memory of Sydney Sydney was our princess dressed elequently in white. The Olympics were in Australia the month that Sydney came. A special time, a special day, that’s how she got her name. Spunky and adventuresome, eager to explore, if you ever let her loose she’d run and run some more. She would come back wagging her tail, happy as can be, as if to say, I’m so clever don’t you agree? Agree we did, though she scared us when she took flight. Our independent princess, dressed elequently in white. Cancer finally caught her and now from us she’s gone. She was a spirited, lovely dog, loved from her first day and on. Sam, Amy, Weston, Bryce and Julia

Tyke In Memory of Tyke Tyke the fiesty dachshund came into our life I didn’t like the idea at all, I got him for my wife. Cute and playful, very cuddly too, little did I know he’d burrow a spot into my heart from which he won’t let go. Tyke was family, before we had family, but three children came along. He played and romped with each of them and watched them grow up so strong. Tyke lived a long and happy life, he loved and we loved him! The glow of his life, shining in our hearts will never, never dim. Sam, Amy, Weston, Bryce and Julia

Tammy In Honor of Tammy I adopted Tammy from the Cedar Bend Humane Society. She is a lover. She loves to ride on my walker when I am using it. Thank you for letting me adopt my new kitty. Betty

Gus In Memory of Gus Gus was a 130 lb Alaskan Malamute. He was a gentle giant never hurting anyone. He died a year ago and his passing has left a huge hole in my heart. Gus was my friend, partner, defender. My dog. He was mine, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. I hope I was worthy of his devotion. Sharon
