Integrated Lighting Design Program We are proud to introduce the Mouser Cabinetry Lighting Program! Cabinet exterior and interior lighting has become a must for many homeowners simply because of the way it enhances the beauty of the cabinetry and provides light to normally shadowed areas. Mouser Cabinetry offers a practical LED lighting program that will give designers the options they need to add lighting to their cabinetry designs.

Advantages of LED Lighting

With its high efficiency, low heat emission and flexible configurations, improved LED technology has changed the rules for where lights can go and what they can do.

Long Lasting and Durable

LED lights have an extremely long service life, up to 25 years or 50,000 hours. This dramatically reduces maintenance and replacement costs.

Powerful, Bright, and Adaptable

Despite their size, LED lights are bright and produce a saturated light color. They achieve full brightness as soon as they are switched on, and are fully dimmable with no buzzing or humming.

UL Approved

The LED UL Rating allows building inspectors to sign off on projects that use lighting in closets, cabinets and drawers.

Low Heat and No UV Rays

LED lights generate almost no heat, making LED lighting systems especially suitable for displays and enclosed spaces. LED lighting does not emit ultraviolet rays (UV), which means there is less risk of fading to fabrics, paint, artwork and other normally sensitive materials. Low heat generation is a requirement for allowing lighting in enclosed spaces.

Energy Saving

LED lights use up to 90% less energy than tungsten filament light bulbs. They can be used in a wide range of designs and still support energy saving standards.

Planning for Lighting The successful incorporation of lighting into your cabinetry design will encompass both knowledge of how our LED lighting components work and a good knowledge of Mouser cabinet construction, cabinetry options and accessories. Our LED lighting components and their operation are relatively simple, however, their integration into our cabinetry requires careful planning, with which we are happy to help you. The following are initial questions that should be considered and answered: • Which cabinets in your design require lighting? • What type of lighting will each cabinet require? • Where are the wall electrical supply sockets located or to be located? • What path will each supply cable run from the power source to the light fixture? After these questions have been answered the lighting design process can begin. 3

DIFFERENT TYPES OF LIGHTING APPLICATIONS All of our lighting uses the same connectors, which means they are interchangeable. Our program consists of the following lighting types:

Under Cabinet (Framed Cabinets) Framed wall cabinets have a 7/8” recessed bottom onto which Surface Mounted Lights can be installed. Wires connecting light-to-light between cabinets are usually passed through holes drilled or slots cut through adjacent cabinet end panels during installation. The 1/2” gap between the unfinished ends of adjacent framed cabinets provides convenient cable management by allowing wires from the lights to travel upward to be plugged into the 6-Outlet Connector.

Under Cabinet with Light Rail This method allows lighting to pass from cabinet to cabinet without the interruption of cabinet ends, so boring passthrough holes in end panels is unnecessary. Our Surface Mounted Lights can be attached directly behind the continuous Light Rail moulding or to the back of the Light Rail moulding itself. See the Embellishment section in any Mouser catalog for available under cabinet moulding options.

Under Cabinet with Flush Light Panel

Under Cabinet with Euro Recessed Bottom For EuroStyle cabinets, our Recessed Bottom modification provides an ideal method to hide Surface Mounted Lights. As with framed cabinets, the light-to-light connections are made through holes drilled through the end panels of adjacent cabinets. EuroStyle cabinets are installed flush to each other without a gap created by face frame scribes. To enable cable management, Mouser personnel will machine a channel into the exterior of unfinished end panels to allow wires to travel upward between adjacent cabinets to the 6-Outlet Connector. The channel will typically be 3/8” deep and 1” wide and located toward the front of the cabinet so it is concealed by the recessed bottom modification. Requests and details for machining wire management channels must be included with the order information. 4

This method is sleek and very attractive, especially when applied to EuroStyle wall cabinets. A 1/2” or 3/4” thick full panel is attached to the underside of a wall cabinet run. Light Panels are available as either Concealed or Exposed, and their applications are fully explained on pages 6 and 7 of this brochure.

Lighting for Floating Shelves

Cabinet Top Up-Lighting

INTERIOR CABINET LIGHTING The incorporation of Floating Shelves into many kitchen designs has provided an opportunity to incorporate flush lighting into the underside of the Floating Shelves. It is important to note that because the bottom of the shelves has to be 3/4” thick to accommodate the lighting track, the height of the Floating Shelf will increase by 1/4” to 2-3/4” high.

Cabinet Top Up-Lighting Surface Mounted Lights can be mounted to the tops of wall cabinets with the light directed upward to create an ambient effect. It is common for these lights to be concealed behind crown moulding, thus making this one of the easiest installations provided there is an electrical outlet positioned above the wall cabinets. With an above cabinet electrical source, the lights, wiring and power transformers installed on the tops of wall cabinets are on the same level, and this makes cable management very easy.

LIGHT PANEL UNDER

(Framed and Euro

Each method provides a clean, uncluttered appearance beneath runs of wall cabinets with the use of 1/2” or 3/4” thick Light Panels. The Light Panels can span a run of wall cabinets up to 96” and are finished to match the cabinet exterior. Each Light Panel has a machined channel with an aluminum extrusion and recessed LED light strips inserted. The continuous strip of LED lighting will be 2” – 4” less in length than the Light Panel, and the recessed light strips are almost flush with the panel to create a professionally installed finished product. Light Panels are manufactured using MDF core material because of its consistent thickness and ability to remain flat, straight and free of warping or twisting.

120° Beam Angle This method utilizes a 1/2” thick panel that is positioned behind the bottom rail of wall cabinets. Unfinished cabinet ends and cabinet backs are shortened in height and are concealed by the panel. The 3/8” space above the panel can be used to conceal wiring. Design Alert: Because this method does not utilize a light rail, the lighting is more exposed and more visible at lower elevations such as a seated position; however, this method does allow the addition of light rail moulding.

Exposed Light Panel (Framed Cabinetry)

120° Beam Angle This method utilizes a 3/4” thick panel that is positioned against the bottom of wall cabinets. The 7/8” space above the panel can be used to conceal wiring. Design Alerts: Because this method does not utilize a light rail, the lighting is more exposed and more visible at lower elevations such as a seated position. The height of the wall cabinets are not reduced to allow for the thickness of the panel, therefore the total height of the cabinet will be increased by 3/4”.

Light panels are sent loose to allow jobsite installation. Each panel is finished on all exposed surfaces to match the exterior of the cabinetry and comes complete with recessed lighting that spans the majority of the panel length. Recessed lighting has end caps at either end, and these are positioned approximately 1” - 2” from the end of the panel.

INTERIOR CABINET LIGHTING Interior Cabinet End Flush Vertical Lighting One of the most efficient and attractive ways of lighting the interior of a cabinet is to add vertical lighting. Flush Lighting Track is embedded into 3/4” thick cabinet ends (unfinished ends are 3/4” thick to accommodate the lighting extrusion), and are set back 4” from the front of the cabinet. The lights run the full height of the cabinet interior and are completely flush, thus allowing adjustable shelves to be repositioned for greater flexibility. Vertical interior lights are factory installed and come complete with wiring ready to be plugged into a nearby 6-Outlet Connector positioned above the wall cabinets. Wiring for cabinet interior lighting is relatively easy because we run the electrical supply wires out the top of the cabinet so they are easily connected and concealed. These interior lights are available installed in wall, base or tall cabinets and are also available in separate sections of the cabinet like the upper opening of tall cabinets.

Door Activated Lighting

Drawer Activated Lighting

Flush Vertical Lighting can now be utilized as utility lighting by means of our new door activated switch. The Flush Vertical Lighting modification can be added to cabinets that will benefit from being illuminated internally, with lights turning on when the cabinet door is opened. A convenient feature for blind corner and square corner bases, and deep utility cabinets.

The compact size and low operating temperature of LED lighting makes them perfect for use in confined spaces. Our new Drawer Activated Lighting is comprised of full width LED lights hidden behind the rail above a drawer (Framed Cabinetry), or the drawer stretcher above the drawer (EuroStyle Cabinetry). This downward pointing light immediately activates upon the drawer opening, thereby illuminating its contents.

Flush Vertical Lighting and Door Activated Switches are sold separately and should be specified individually for your Utility Lighting purposes. 8

DIFFERENT LIGHTING AND SPECIFICATIONS LED Puck Lighting When factory installed, Puck Lights can be surface mounted or recessed into wall or tall cabinet tops, but they are only available surface mounted to wall cabinet bottoms. Unless otherwise specified, a light is positioned behind the center point of each door. For open cabinets, a light is centered according to the opening width. Lights are centered according to the cabinet interior depth in all cases. Puck Lights - are Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) listed and come with a 3 watt LED bulb and a 79” cable. The light is 2-1/2” in diameter, and when surface mounted, 3/8” tall. A frosted diffuser helps to eliminate glare and prevents reflection of the LED diode on counter tops. Puck Lights are offered in multiple temperatures that include the following: • 3000K – Warm Temperature (ideal for accent lighting and with 2700K flextape) • 3500K – Warm/Neutral Temperature – Neutral (ideal for task lighting such as over counter tops) • 4800K – Cool Temperature – (used for functional lighting or task lighting in areas that have light colors) Light spread is 120 degrees. The use of Puck Lights in the cabinetry may require cabinet or shelf modifications at additional cost. Power Transformer - is 60W, Electrical Testing Laboratories (ETL) listed, and has a 79” power cord. It features short circuit overload protection, a 12V DC output, automatic reset (no fuse), and RFI protection.

Under Cabinet Lighting General Information Mouser Cabinetry offers surface mounted lights that consist of aluminum extrusions containing a strip of FlexTape LED lighting with snap-in opaque diffusers. The FlexTape used by Mouser Cabinetry has three LED diodes per linear inch and may be trimmed in 1” increments. This FlexTape is rated at 2700 Kelvin, 3500 Kelvin, and 4800 Kelvin and has a power requirement of 3 watts per linear foot, which is important when connecting lighting runs to a power transformer. Each light is pre-sized according to the width of the wall cabinet, i.e. a W-12 Light Fitting Code fits beneath a 12” wide wall cabinet. The available Light Fitting Codes range from W-9 through W-96 in 3” increments. Each Surface Mounted Light contains magnets allowing it to be mounted to a self-adhesive metal plate that is adhered to the wall cabinet bottom. Alternatively, mounting clips can be screwed to the cabinet bottom and the Surface Mounted

Light can be pushed into the clips for a secure mounting. It is easy to shorten the length of a Surface Mounted Light should the need arise during installation. The basic steps are as follows: • Remove the diffuser • Choose the end is to be trimmed • Remove the end cap (if present) • Detach the wire connector • Cut the FlexTape at the correct location between the copper connector points. To complete the fitting: • Trim the aluminum extrusion and the diffuser using a finetooth saw • Replace the wire connector or end cap • Insert the diffuser. 9

LED Lighting Components The Mouser Cabinetry lighting system consists of the following basic components:

Power Supply

Dimmer Switch

This component plugs into a non-switched wall electrical socket and converts the 120v AC current coming from the wall socket to 12V DC, which powers the LED lights. The Power Supply includes a 6-Outlet Connector. Specifications – 60W, ETL listed, has a 79” power cord, and a 6-Outlet Connector. It features short circuit overload protection, a 12V DC output, automatic reset (no fuse) and RFI protection. Capacity of Power Supply – A 60W power supply can power a quantity of lights with wattage that does not exceed 60 watts. For example, the FlexTape used for under cabinet and interior lighting is rated at 3 watts per linear foot. This means a single 60W power supply can be used for a maximum 20 linear feet of lighting.

FREEDiM Wireless Receiver

The FREEDiM Wireless Receiver module is connected between the power supply and the LED lighting, and once programmed, it works with the wireless wall Dimmer Switch to control the lighting. It has a range of 50 feet subject to the layout of the room.

6-Outlet Connector This component is what the wires from each light plug into. Each Power Block has six inlets for lights. The 6-Outlet Connector connects to the FREEDiM Wireless Receiver, which in turn, connects to the Power Supply. A 6-Outlet Connector is included with each Power Supply.

Simplified Typical Arrangement for Under Counter Lighting (Front Elevation)

The light switches wirelessly connect to the FREEDiM Wireless Receiver and can be fitted into a standard wall electrical outlet box. There are single and double zone models with switches capable of turning the lights on or off as well as adjusting the light intensity. Available in white, black and almond, a single switch can be programmed to operate multiple receivers. Single

Double

Round Switch The Round Switch has a 7/8” diameter, requires a 3/4” drilled hole, and has a 79” cord. This switch can be used instead of the wireless switch components and it connects between the Power Supply and the LED lighting.

Adjustable Angle Clips Adjustable Angle Clips can be used for surface mount lights, allowing the entire light to be angled back and forth. These clips are used for uplighting, allowing the light to be angled away from or towards the wall behind the cabinet.

Flush Lighting vs. Recessed Lighting Flush Lighting:

Mouser Cabinetry offers Flush Lighting for vertical interior lighting because it allows adjustable shelves to be positioned over it without any modification to the shelf. As its name suggests, Flush Lighting consists of aluminum tracks completely embedded into the 3/4” cabinet end and a light diffuser that clips into the track.

Recessed Lighting:

Mouser Cabinetry offers Recessed Lighting in Light Panels that are positioned beneath wall cabinets to provide under cabinet lighting. The profile of the aluminum extrusion used for Recessed Lighting is different from the Flush Lighting tracks because it has an edge lip that rests on the panel. The majority of the light track is embedded into the panel, however, the domed diffuser portion of the light extends beyond the panel surface.
