Absurdity in the Flesh There are many questions we don’t know the answers to: why did they put the bar on the boys’ bike? Why do people dress up on Sunday and why did our family buy a mini-horse? The answers to some questions add no real meaning or value to life. Like what percentage of people brush their teeth sideways as compared those to those who go up & down? Or that this Christmas you will find that 57% of people reuse gift wrap, and you have a 54% chance of actually getting an unwanted re-wrapped gift. We find it hard to know why and maybe even hard to believe, that the Creator was created. The omnipotent God became breakable, vulnerable, and through the incarnation, dependent. It’s hard to find the answer to why the creator become dependent upon a young girl for nourishment and upon a blue collar carpenter for protection, education, and a weekly allowance. God was given eyebrows, elbows, two lungs and two kidneys. Like all babies he needed to be cradled, caressed and cared for. He wore diapers, blew his nose and maybe even got the hiccups a time or two. If drawing attention to these details is troubling for you, it might be because you have never explored the thought of Jesus in human terms. But that’s what the incarnation is all about, isn’t it? Considering the inconceivable, pondering the impossible: God became a human being. Max Lucado says it’s much easier to keep the humanity out of the incarnation. We pretend Jesus never snored, or hit his thumb with a hammer. But, when we keep him divine we keep him distant. But because he could bear my sins more easily than he could bear the thought of my hopelessness, he chooses to come. You may be in a place where you are trying to find the answer to what Jesus is all about, why you were created, or how to make it through one more day. All of the answers to these questions are found in Jesus. And Jesus does this work through the Holy Spirit in relationships and in the church. Once again, you will find many opportunities in this ministry catalog to connect with people, groups, the transforming Word of God and opportunities to connect and to serve. If I can be of any assistance in your spiritual pursuits, feel free to contact me at craig.g@cedarpark.org or 425-488-3600.

There are many questions we don’t know the answers to: why do people dress up on Sunday and why did our family buy a mini-horse?

Welcome To Cedar Park

Understanding the Cathedral Cedar Park is a Cathedral Church

Cathedral Ministries

Even though people think of an actual cathedral when they Branch Churches hear the term “cathedral church,” the concept has nothing to Cedar Park Christian Schools do with the structure or size of the building, but everything Funeral Home and Mausoleum to do with building a ministry. Canvas Worship Ministry Simply put, a Cathedral Church acts in an inspirational and Cedar Park Camps supervisory capacity over a variety of ministries designed Cedar Park Counseling Network to serve the wider church and community. It takes its name Embryo Adoption Services from the major church of a geographical area from which Foster Care Ministries smaller parish churches and ministries were organized and Mechanics’ Ministry directed. In Cedar Park’s context, we are a church that serves School of Fine Arts and supports other ministries beyond what is commonly experienced in smaller, local churches. When most people think of a church, they think of a worship service, Sunday School, and a youth program. A Cathedral Church is all of that, but its essence reaches beyond those traditional programs. It is concerned with the fullness of Christian ministry throughout a region. The distinguishing characteristic of each ministry is that they serve the broader Christian community and act as an outreach to our neighbors.

Special Monthly Services First Sunday: Communion

The first Sunday of every month focuses on remembering the Lord in Holy Communion. “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” - 1 Corinthians 11:26

Second Sunday: Missions

Cedar Park Church contributes to the monthly support of 50 full-time, career missionaries. “Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.” - Romans 12:10

Third Sunday: Child Dedication

We follow the practice of presenting our children to the Lord, just as Jesus was presented in the temple by Mary and Joseph. If you are interested, please contact the Church Office. “When the time of their purification according to the Law of Moses had been completed, Joseph and Mary took (Jesus) to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.” - Luke 2:22

Fourth Sunday: Membership

Membership is strongly encouraged, but not required to attend at Cedar Park. If you are interested, please contact the Church Office. “And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” - Heb. 10:24-25

The Cedar Park Prayer Chain 425-939-1335 prayer@cedarpark.org Prayer at Cedar Park

The Prayer Ministry is a multi-faceted ministry focused on prayer for the concerns of the friends and family at Cedar Park and the training of prayer warriors. Prayer requests are called in and emailed to the Church Office during regular office hours or directly to the Prayer line during nonoffice hours. The requests are then forwarded to a dedicated team of prayer warriors who will bring the petitions before the Lord. There are a variety of support functions within the Prayer Ministry for both training and encouragement. Some of these include courses on intercessory prayer, specific prayer lists and coordinated prayer coverage for special requests and events.

Reaching Out

Cedar Park Mechanics’ Ministry (CPMM) reaches out to the needy in our local community and the region with the compassion of Christ and touches their lives in very real ways. CPMM retail shop is staffed with competent, professional automotive technicians offering a full range of automotive services from oil changes to engine changes, from brake jobs to computer diagnostics. These services are offered at hourly rates below local shop rates. CPMM also provides professional auto repairs to the general public to generate income that will help fund our work among those who are struggling financially. CPMM was founded as a full-time outreach of Cedar Park in July 2000 by Craig Brandenburg upon the premise that given the opportunity to help themselves most individuals will thrive. CPMM exists to meet the critical transportation needs of single moms, seniors and families in critical need in a number of ways:

Benevolence Repair Rate

For repairs beyond the scope of the Saturday Volunteer Clinics needy individuals may apply for a sliding labor scale that is based on income in order to receive larger, more extensive repairs and diagnostic services performed by our professional technicians.

Vehicle Sales

Vehicle donations provide quality used vehicles for sale at reasonable prices in order to meet vital transportation needs such as jobs, medical appointments, school and family transportation.

How you can help • • • •

Charitable contributions Vehicle donations; we now are able to accept both running and non-running vehicles. Choose CPMM for your vehicle repairs Volunteer in a Mechanics’ Clinic

The foundational program of the Mechanics’ Ministry. Since the spring of 1997, both amateur and professional level mechanics have served one Saturday a month fellowshipping together and joyfully sharing their time and abilities to affect minor repairs (up to 1.5 hours per vehicle) for the cost of parts only.

The Vision of the Chapel

The Chapel of the Resurrection reminds the living of our faith, the priorities of our living, and the eternal rewards beyond our death. It reclaims the hope that has motivated every generation of Christians since the beginning of the Church. The chapel fills a need for Christians who want to express their faith in a distinctive Christian manner: by caring for the remains of their loved ones and placing them where families will find comfort and assurance in our certainty of heaven.

The celebration of life and beauty, given to us by the Lord, is what the Chapel of the Resurrection is all about. Everything about the Chapel is meant to inspire the living with the hope of the Resurrection and the glory of our Christ.

Often, because of grief, families do not make the wisest financial decisions. Excessive spending is common when people wait until the time of need to make important decisions about funeral and burial arrangements. Making decisions now, in a more relaxed atmosphere, will greatly ease the burden later.

Funeral Home

Guarantee Prices

Mausoleum and Funeral Home

We provide many services from which you can choose. Our licensed funeral directors will walk you through the entire process and help you make the choices that are comfortable for you and your family. We are very modest in cost and are typically 25-50% less than our comparable full-service funeral homes.

Mausoleum

Lining the back exterior of the Chapel are hundreds of crypts for casket burial, niches for cremated remains and memorial cenotaphs. Those coming to remember loved ones are inspired by the beautiful surroundings. In every funeral arrangement you need two main things, a funeral provider and place for burial. We can provide both for you, but can also serve either independently.

Paying today means your loved ones will not have to pay any additional when the time of need occurs. Once you’ve paid for space at the Chapel of the Resurrection Mausoleum, that’s it! Once you’ve purchased a Funeral Plan at today’s prices, the major part of the expenses (including the services, casket or urn) are not only paid for, but guaranteed. Those left behind will only need to consider options such as epitaphs or photos.

Royal Family Kids’ Camp

For more information regarding Royal Family Kids’ Camp, contact Carolyn Winter at rfkc@cedarpark.org.

Reaching out to Foster Children Royal Family Kids’ Camp is an international organization that has over 170 camps, including some international camps. Cedar Park Church sponsors a local camp. Cedar Park Church reaches out to local foster children and their families by providing a week of positive memories and fun for children who have been abused, abandoned, and neglected. Our camp is held at Cedar Springs Camp facility where campers get to enjoy activities, take home gifts, and receive a lot of love. Since these children are shuffled from one home to another, they often do not get a birthday party, so we provide a big birthday party for them. During the week of camp there are chapels and another fun time called Breakfast Club. God’s love is shared with the campers all week. Christmas Party A Christmas Party will be held for those campers who attended camp this summer on Saturday, December 5th at 2:00 in the Bothell church gym. Campers will have a chance to reunite with camp staff. There will be food, crafts, and games, in addition to gifts for the campers.

Volunteers

Volunteers are screened and interviewed and are required to attend several trainings. One counselor is needed for every two campers. Counselors must be 18. No special skills are required, just a heart for children.

Fund raising It costs approximately $550 per camper for a week of camp and foster families do not pay for camp. Our entire budget (over $25,000 in 2010) comes from donations from caring people! All gifts, small or large, go directly to the camp. Checks can be made out directly to Royal Family Kids’ Camp or to Cedar Park Church with RFKC on the memo line. We are a non-profit organization and appreciate all matching gifts from corporations!
