Say not to drugs Educational kit for the prevention of violence linked to drugs use

JUST/2010/DAP3/AG/1349 With financial support from the Daphne III Programme of the European Union

Presentation of the learning kit: This learning kit will be based on PowerPoint presentation, in order to be more interactive and to ease notes taking by attendees. It is composed of theoretical courses, individual exercises and group, with videos and discussions in order to maintain constant attention. Each video is embedded in the PowerPoint where it must be started in the program (the trainer will click on the camera). PowerPoint is divided into two screens: one for the trainer where he can see the whole text (visible only by the trainer), another for the trainee where appears the summary of what has just been said (to ease notes taking). This learning kit has also a booklet which will be given to each trainee at the end of the program. It consists of: -

summary tables on various issues addressed ; a glossary listing different terms and their definitions; quizzes conducted in a group with their correction ; annexes linked to legislation and penalties.

Thus the trainee will then keep a teaching tool which he can use whenever he wants. A card game on the topic of drugs will also be given to attendees who will learn while having fun. This game is educationally important because it is convenient, transportable anywhere and updates games that young people forsake for solitary games such as video games, ipod, or mobile.

The third part of this program includes more diagrams and videos. It can be explained by demanding images which do not require additional comments.

However each video is followed by discussion in order, on one hand, to release the emotional burden accumulated during each video and, on the other hand, to assess trainees’ awareness.

Afternoon 2.00pm

Movie

The movie ÂŤ Requiem for a dream Âť could be proposed. Released in 2001, this movie deals with the theme of drugs, of decay and of degeneration. Duration: 1h50 mn. Synopsis: Harry Goldfarth is a junkie. He spends his days with his girlfriend Marion and his friend Tyrone. Together, they create an artificial world. In search of a better life, the trio is driven in a downward spiral sinking them ever deeper into anxiety and despair. The interest of this movie is due to the fact that it uncompromisingly deals with psychological, social, economic problems caused by the use of illegal drugs . Although dark, this movie shows beyond doubt stages experienced by drug users: progressive spatiotemporal disorientation, aggressiveness, lack of drugs, marginalization... There will be a discussion after the movie. From a pedagogical point of view, movie and videos resume visually theory developed throughout the pedagogical module: teenagers and young adults are often more responsive to images than to words. The program will conclude with a general assessment of the whole module. A round table will serve as a conclusion on everybody's feelings.
