Something Blue

It is said that the Something Blue tradition originating in England in the Victorian era is meant to signify the love, purity, faithfulness, and modesty that is needed for a successful marriage — in essence, warding off any evil that lurks, at least according to popular thought. While many are not superstitious, they may still decide to partake in the fun tradition of carrying Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, and Something Blue (and maybe even a Sixpence in their shoe !). In years past, it was common to consider a blue garter one’s Something Blue, but more recently we have seen a trend in embracing the tradition and incorporating it in a more obvious and stated fashion. Today, the wedding party may be dressed in blue gowns, blue hair accessories may be added to any style, blue flowers can be the focus of bouquets, and blue shoes may be tucked away under one’s dress. In short, the sky is the limit when deciding to incorporate the Something’s tradition.
