Finest Italian cuisine with stunning views of Port Andratx

I have only ever heard great reviews from anyone who has eaten at this cosy, Italian bistro-style restaurant so I was delighted when the owner, Tony invited us to dinner in early February. Its reputation not only comes through word of mouth, but Trip Advisor reviews have consistently ranked Verico as 5- stars, meaning it’s been a regular in the top three best restaurants, not just in Port Andratx, but for the whole of Mallorca. That is quite an achievement.

Famous faces, some you will have seen featured in Celebrity Magazine, enjoy dining here whether permanent residents or taking a break, you could be rubbing shoulders with the stars. On its own, away from the many Port Andratx café bars and restaurants Verico is located on the sailing club side of the water. Overlooking the boats in the marina from its enviable, elevated position a warm welcome awaits you from the friendly and knowledgeable team inside, where you immediately step into traditional Italian themed décor. It’s not at all over the top, it feels just right to create an authentic Italian ambience, yet with an assured and relaxed feel. It’s early February, and the weather has been pleasant during the day, the terrace remains open for the winter months with the full floor to ceiling glass doors closed, so you still get the view but without the draughts. We were comfortably warm. Crisp white tablecloths drape the tables, with a selection of fresh bread, parmesan cheese and olive oil sit in front of us. Relaxing and taking in the atmosphere and the views, we are brought the house speciality aperitif, Robellini - a delicious blend of vodka, passionfruit as we await the first of our 5 courses that make up the Verico Tasting Menu. As each dish is served our waiter explains what we have and how it’s been prepared, you do get the personal touch here, and its appreciated. As a nice complement to the first dish we were then brought Tuna Tartare marinated with citrus and mint essences, with purple cauliflower garnish and corn cream which was simply exquisite. To complete our journey through this comprehensive and classy Italian tasting menu we devoured Chocolate Mousse with Cocoa Cookie, Seared Meringue and a Mascarpone Ganache.

We then rest with our glass of Pinot for a few minutes before the first of the main courses arrives at the table, Garganello al dente stuffed with a grouper stew, served with a mango and saffron sauce. This was a fantastic mix of flavours and personally my favourite dish of the evening.

At some point I’m expecting a pasta dish, which comes next; of course the pasta is made in-house, as this is top-end cuisine. We tuck in to the Pappardelle with wild boar ragu which is followed by a divine Turbot saltimbocca.

If you’re a fan of Italian food then a visit to Verico is a must.
