Demographic Information The student I selected for my Case Study is Luis J. Esquilin Vega. Luis was born on
November 25, 2008 on the town of Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Luis is five years old and on first grade. His father is Luis A. Esquilin Cruz, and his mother is Sherly S. Vega Santana. His family resides in Jardines de Ceiba, Edfy apartment 15. His hobbies include riding a bycicle and spending time with his parents. Luis is enrolled in the Luis MuĂąoz MarĂn Elementary School in Ceiba. He is part of the group 1-3, but in the new changes in school this group is now called Group Blue. In this semester, he is not part of any school extracurricular activities.

Justification The reason I decided to select this student, is because since the moment I arrived to the
classroom this student has shown difficulties in the English class. First of all, this group lacks discipline in the classroom, and Luis is one of the most hyper students in class. In the English Class, he has the power to try to understand but sometimes he wanders on doing other stuff. I want to be able to help him learn English. I want him to be able to read, write, and talk better. He needs helps in all areas, and I believe he is been given a chance. Luis is a wonderful boy, with many possibilities, but if he is not well taught then he cannot blossom into a better student. Throughout my first two weeks, I have seen a pattern on Luis. From what I read in the questionnaire, Luis lives in a home where the need to know English is not important. Both parents are High School graduates, but they didn’t study farther than that. Also the lack a computer, that from what I observed in class in Luis homework I knew this was a possibility. One good thing is that his mother helps him in his assignments, but the downside is that sometimes she does them for him. This helps the student but the material is not reaching the brain the correct way. I have to take in consideration that his parents are there for him, and I believe that with my help they can see that their son needs help in the area of learning but more specific in English. It has been tiny details that made me pick Luis as my case study, but the main reason for this decision is because I know he can be a better students. Luis needs a push from me as his teacher and from his parents that are mine helpers. When he realizes that there are people that want him to do better then he will have the need to do better.

Hypothetical Account Luis behavior in the classroom depends on the day. From what I have witnessed, sometimes he pays complete attention to the class and participates, but other times her makes a mockary of the class and does not pay attention. Mr. Rivera sometimes spends most of the class trying to make him pay attention and stop playing with his pencil. This takes time of the class, and impacts the other students. Also, Luis is a student that likes to talk a lot. His actions sometimes take other students out of concentration, and this has to stop. I believe Luis has a need to stand out of the group, but his actions are at the worst moments. I also believe that his behavior represents how he is at home, and that his parents still haven’t lectured him on how to behave in school. Possibly at home he is a jumpy happy boy, but when he is at school he wants to behave the same way at takes his mind out of class. I need to work on his behavior, apart from his other tiny problems. This semester my goal is to work on his behavior the same time I work on his understanding in the English Class.

In the test Luis took too much time in each of the parts. In the area of listening and speaking, Luis showed lack of knowledge. Also he presented lack of speaking and writing skills.

Analysis of Student’s Situation From what I observed from the student, is that he has a big serious case of bad behavior. In the classroom, he is the student that everyone wants to follow. So typically when a class starts, he becomes rowdy and of course the rest of the students want to follow. I’ve taken measures in my hand, and decided to look for a way where the student can sit down, pays attention and doesn’t bother the rest of the students. For behavior, I created a list where the students would be written on if they miss behave. I can honestly say that out of five days on the week, he was four. He comes from a home environment, where bother parents are young. Now the student acts in the classroom, like he behaves at home. The way he tries to answer back and mocks me, gives me the idea that he is usually left to do whatever he wants. The parents, well in this case the mother is very active in Luis life. She spends time in school with him and takes care if he has any activities. The only area she has to work on is his behavior. We keep coming back to this topic, because that is the main problem with the student. He is a good solid student, sometimes he has his

setbacks, but usually he is active in class. If we continue to try and fix his behavior, the student will excel all expectations and be much greater in class.

Work Plan 2 Action
Purpose
•
Continue working with behavior issues.
The reason for this is to help the student exceed the expectations. Once his behavior is set down, then the student will be paying more attention in class and at home.
•
Continue with extra time.
Working with him extra time, has been quite beneficiated. His test scores and class work have increased. We have to maintain him in constant work, that way the student won’t get bored and grasp better the material.
•
Keep practice in listening, speaking The student has been practicing, but he needs and writing. more work ahead.

Reactions I thought the student was going to give me more trouble that I lead on in my mind, but in reality he participated in everything. I have to be grateful also that his parents were understood of their son’s needs, and went along with everything I said. The actions that were taken were for the benefit of the student. He needed someone to recognize as a superior member, and that was what I became to him. Once he saw me as a leader, the only thing he started to do was follow. In the class work and assignments, at the beginning he was not doing his homework and didn’t want to participate in class. Once he saw that he would get reinforcement for his job, and then he started becoming more active in everything. He just needed a little push to help him realize that he could do the work, and phenomenally I might add. Students just don’t want to get the job done and be

done, no students want to be recognize for his good job, and this was one of those cases. My recommendations would be to continue working hand by hand with the student. He is an excellent student with full potential, but his behavior take the best of him. We need to keep an eye on him in the classroom, and just maintain him busy. He would do anything you ask for, you just have to see where could he get his help now.
