Another day has passed since I was first considered an endangered species. My life is not the most grateful of the world. I’m a bird, yet I can’t fly, I’m fat, and my predators are trying to catch me every day, but I climb on a tree and they can’t catch me because they are afraid of heights. But this is nothing if we compare that with my day to day life.
I remember those days when there were thousands of us, when we were the dominating birds and we had our own area. Nowadays there are only 62 of us in the entire world but we expect to find more of us. Now I live with my little brother. He doesn’t know how difficult it is to live like one of us, so he lives his life in a very impulsive way. Today, for example, he has been trapped in a hole that there was on the floor and I had to rescue him. Our predators know our worst weakness (we are birds and we can’t fly) and they play with that.
When I finished “rescuing “ my brother, a strange creature appeared and caught us. I was afraid because I thought that he might hurt us, but instead , he fed us, which is good because In these last days we haven’t been finding enough food for feeding both of us and I’ve had to climb the trees and just eat less because I want the best for my brother and I will do whatever I can for him.
My brother, who seems to be more immature every day, tried to fly just to impress our “rescuers” and, obviously, he failed at his attempt to conquer the skies. The “rescuers” just made fun of him and they gave one bracelet to each of us with a name that they gave us. At night they released us in a kind of jungle with other of us and left us there. My brother was afraid because he didn’t know how to interact with the other birds, but this only happened at first because then, he started to get on with them.
Now we are living with more of us and we are very happy with our new lifestyle. We always have food, there aren’t any predators that want to hunt us, we have our own area only for birds like us, and we are living like a big family, a big family that is going to recover from this period of decline.
