Legislation:
Internships in Italy are regulated by existing laws and by the University itself. In all cases, in order to start an internship in Italy, an internship agreement must be signed by the company, the university and the student. Non-EU students are allowed to do an internship in Italy as long as they hold a permit of stay for study valid for the entire duration of their internship. EU students can do an internship in Italy with no need for a permit of stay. Università Bocconi supports incoming CEMS students in activating internship in Italy and outside Italy during their stay at Bocconi and for the following 6 months. CEMS students not studying at Bocconi can activate internships using services provided by external agencies.
Requested documents:
Italian laws require the stipulation of an internship agreement before the beginning of the internship, laying out the duration, aims and contents of each internship carried out at the company. Through its Internship Office Bocconi University supports companies dealing with this procedure for its home and incoming CEMS students. Please note that internships are not considered valid without these documents, which are also essential to get mandatory insurance coverage from Università Bocconi. Upon completion of the internship students and companies are required to fill in the end-of-internship evaluation forms which are provided by the University.
Company support:
Italian laws provide for a mandatory internship payment only for internships completed by graduates. On the contrary, payment for internships completed by students is not mandatory: it is discretionary. Please note that every company has its own policies regarding payment and working visas.
For graduates:
Graduates can do an internship in Italy within 12 months after graduation. Bocconi University supports graduates who have studied at Bocconi in activating post-graduation (extracurricular) internships lasting max 6 months. Rules above described will apply.
After 12 months from graduation the company can activate internships using services provided by external agencies.
