Hot Heat Cover Shoot p.46 I’ve always had a big interest in photography, but it was after spending a summer in Milan 2011, learning about fashion photography, that I realized it was something I could see myself doing. Last year I quit my job as a construction engineer and moved from Sweden to California to pursue my passion for photography.

Most of the time I’m carrying a Canon 5D Mark II over my shoulder. My current favorite lenses have to be: Canon 50 mm f/1.2, Canon 85 mm f/1.8, and a Canon 24-70 mm f/2.8. I’m currently a student at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara. It’s an inspirational place where I’m being challenged, but also encouraged by instructors, professionals, and fellow students to always improve my work. I love shooting people, whether it is portraits, beauty or fashion. There is no better place to be than sunny California with its beautiful nature and eternal sunshine! Check out more of my work at: www.hampusalexander.com
r e s t l e M l Francisco MichaeSan I’m originally from Russia. My first experience with photography goes back to when I was six and received my first camera as a gift. It was a pretty simple camera (think Soviet Union era) and I used black and white film which I developed myself in a dark room and printed my own photographs. Most of the time I was making pictures of my family and nature landscapes. After I moved to the United States, it was a while before I was able to get back to photography. I started shooting digital in 2005 (it was Canon back then) and later on I made a switch to Nikon. At the moment I use Nikon D800 with various lenses. I started doing portrait photography about two years ago and I really enjoy it. I did not go to any school where they teach you how to make photographs, but I read lots of books, watched an endless amount of videos, and now I keep improving my skills by trying and learning. At the moment I dedicate about 90 percent of my photography time to shooting portraits.

n architect and freelance illustrator from Romania, Alina Filipoiu has been drawing her entire life -- from an obsession with sketching hands and ballerinas to creating portraits of the elderly and designing architecture. Filipoiu combines digital technology, illustration and photography to create her pieces. This powerful combination of media lets Filipoiu stretch her artwork as far as her imagination takes her!
Her style is constantly evolving along with her color palettes. With Dali as one of her greatest artistic inspirations, you can expect to see some interesting new work from Filipoiu in the future!

Paige Augusta (lead vocals), Alex Arnaout (bass, backup vocals), Connor Trietsch (guitar, backup vocals) and Jagger Krusen (drummer) are SLATER, the youngest band ever featured in CCM. With ages ranging between 14 and 16 they have been performing together since 2011! We caught up with them at Vans Warped Tour in Pomona, CA. to grab some photos and vibe to the LA rockers’ original pop/punk sound.

loha from Pono Hawaiian Grill, a tropical oasis in downtown Santa Cruz. This tiki paradise makes you want to grab a board off the wall and bomb over to West Cliff Drive -- but not until you eat! We enjoyed Pono’s large patio and soaked up the ocean air while waiting for our first appetizer, the 34 |Lanikai. CCM A Hawaiian Ahi Poke stack with sweet onions, cubed avocado, seaweed salad and
a soy sauce marinade topped with wontons and oil, the Lanikai was so good we almost needed two! Next we tried Spam Musubi (spam sushi). Grilled with teriyaki sauce and served on a bed of rice all rolled in seaweed, this dish was fun finger food and paired perfectly with a Hawaiian lager from The Reef Bar. For my entree, I chose the Kahuku Prawn Plate -- pan sauteed prawns in a lemon, garlic and sweet onion sauce that were to die for! The dish was served

This issue we dined at The Rib Line a Central Coast tradition for 25 years. A family run business, The Rib Line has won multiple awards for its chili and BBQ over the years and now has two locations! We started out with the Swai Ceviche with fresh chopped pico de gallo and avocado and an order of the Beer Battered Beach Balls. The Beach Balls were delicious and had a crispy fried outer shell with bacon on the inside!
38 CCM For |the main course I chose the Grill Master’s Feast, which includes a large beef rib, two baby
back ribs, 4oz Angus Tri Tip, one chicken leg quarter and homemade chili and cornbread. Although the meal was large (I did not finish it), the ribs, chili and cornbread were excellent! My wife chose the Shrimp Scampi Ravioli in a house made white sauce with crystallized basil. The Shrimp Scampi was rich; however, the sauce it came with was creamy but did •• not overpower the shrimp. We were still able to taste the delicious shrimp. Being so close to the ocean, that is always a good thing.

For dessert, I had the Homemade Tower of Carrot Cake. This is a huge slice of moist cake that we enjoyed even days later. Jennifer had the turtle cheesecake which was amazing as well! You can find Rib Line cooking up homemade BBQ at local farmers markets, sports competitions, and community events. So whether you visit one of their two locations or find them working at your next community function, be sure to try the award-winning food at The Rib Line. You will be glad you did.
