Dear Friends, Since 1998, Jacob’s Heart has provided hope and healing to families whose lives have been broken by childhood cancer. Each day, we commit ourselves to one goal: to alleviate the challenges faced by families enduring the unimaginable. Now, after 18 years, our services are at the forefront of national standards of care. A study published by the Dana-Farber/Boston Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center in 2015 revealed that almost one-third of families of children with cancer face devastating financial hardship and one-quarter lose more than 40 percent of household income. The Journal of Pediatric Blood and Cancer published the first peer reviewed national standards for the psychosocial care of children with cancer and their families. Our services at Jacob’s Heart are aligned with these national standards, and are now being extended to children with other life-threatening illnesses.

Lori Butterworth, Founder and Executive Director

In 2015, we welcomed families of children with non-cancer, likely terminal diagnoses into the Jacob’s Heart family of families. This was made possible by strengthening our partnership with Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford and cutting $34,000 in overhead costs thanks to Granite Construction’s gift of a rent-free home. We are blessed by the addition of these new families. With no government funding and no reimbursement from insurance, we rely 100% on our community to bring love, joy and healing to hundreds of local children and their families. Thank you for miracles you made possible in 2015. With your support we will continue. Sincerely,

Lori Butterworth and Melissa McDill Melissa McDill, Board President
