Founded in 1932, Central City Opera is the fifth oldest professional opera company in the country and is renowned for its exquisite world-class productions, competitive and robust young artist training program, and creative educational and community engagement activities. Its summer festival takes place at 8,500 feet above sea level in the Colorado mountain town of Central City, only 35 miles west of Denver, where the company owns and maintains 29 Victorian era properties, including the intimate 550seat jewel box opera house built in 1878. Central City Opera’s year-round education programs connect 40,000 students, families and seniors with live performances, workshops and residencies. Our touring programs enhance creative learning for students and provide lifelong learners a chance to expand their horizons. We perform in schools, churches, retirement homes and community venues across the state to spread our love of opera and classical music. Please contact us to learn more about our dynamic offerings and/or to book a special program for your community by emailing education@centralcityopera.org or by calling 303.331.7026. Thanks to generous foundations and individuals, we awarded scholarships to almost 50 qualifying schools and organizations last year.
