For Your Community
By Rich Maladecki
Anew month is always a new opportunity to celebrate and learn more about what’s happening in our beloved community. In June, we honor the men who have helped shape our lives and the lives of others throughout Central Florida. So, here’s everything you need to know about what’s happening this month.
Let’s finalize plans and activities for Father’s Day, 2022! This year, this designated holiday to celebrate “Dads” is Sunday June 19. Take a moment to develop meaningful plans for your deserving “Dads” (suggestions may include a family picnic, a trip to the beach, an at-home BBQ, attending a sporting event, or a family photo session).
It seems that all my friends are discussing - and making it a point - to experience the new super-size gas stations, called Buc-ee’s!!! This Texas based company is now developing these gigantic convenience centers in our Southeast region, including two current Florida stops in St. Augustine and Daytona (both near I-95). This brand is known for 100 gas pumps, in-house bakeries, “spotless clean” restrooms and friendly customer service. When traveling by car, motorcycle, or RV, add to the experience, by visiting a Buc-ee’s. Recently, Orange County
Public Schools (OCPS)
inducted five deserving professionals to its prestigious Hall of Fame. Congratulations and a community ‘Thank You’ to the following Honorees:
• Kenard Lang • Belvin Perry, Jr. • Gabriel John Preisser • James (Jim) Ferber • Marge LaBarge
(To watch the tribute videos of each inductee, please view the OCPS website).
Hail Scouting - Our Central Florida Boy Scouts Council is currently celebrating 100 years of service to the youth of our community! Congratulations to all past, present, and future scouts, volunteers, and leaders. Job Well Done. Did You Hear??? The only Florida based White Castle Restaurant, located in our Central Florida tourism corridor just celebrated one year of successful business and announced that the location will become a 24/7 operation, sometime this summer!
It’s time to proudly display the symbol of our United States! Yes, Flag Day 2022 is set for Tuesday, June 14. Let’s demonstrate our “Red, White and Blue” spirit by flying “Old Glory” on this Holiday.
Changing the Skyscrape - a new Disney Digital Art Display is currently being constructed on International Drive near the corner of I-4 and Sand Lake Road on the Hollywood Plaza Garage building. Once completed, this dynamic two-story display will be visible from three different angles and shall feature a wavy facade and famous Disney artwork.
