Monroe Township police nabbed a “lop-eared egg-snatcher” just in time for Easter Sunday. A resident bravely attempted to appre-
hend the egg-snatcher who had been spotted climbing into his Mill Lake Yard earlier in the week. The suspect had eluded police and remained at large until April 11 when Sgt. Anthony Trohalides and Police Officer Joseph Vella took the “eggsnatcher” into custody.

ith the Spotswood Public School District’s Spring Break period ending, Superintendent Graham Peabody updated parents about the district’s upcoming fourth marking period. “In this anxious and uncertain time, it is my hope that you were able to unwind
and unplug over the last week to experience a relaxing Spring Break,” Peabody said in a prepared statement. “Given that [April 13 was] our last scheduled day of break and we remain under state order to keep our buildings closed to students, distance learning will resume tomorrow [on]

t Reformed Church Home (RCH) in Old Bridge, the philosophy has always been to treat “residents and staff like family, to be transparent, and to put their safety and health first.” And the philosophy continues as the state continues to express concerns and set guidelines for long-term care facilities in the midst of the global novel coronavirus pandemic, which has become a problem across the country. “In light of the extreme challenges we are presented with during this outbreak, we are doing our very best to follow all guidelines, tend not only to residents’ physical/ medical needs, but also to their need for emotional support and comfort, communicate to families with transparency and honesty, and keep our very dedicated staff both safe and motivated,” said Andrea Walls, director of marketing at RCH. “We have even started an Employee Appreciation Fund, which families and local businesses have contributed to with monetary donations and gift card donations to provide food for all shifts. It has truly been an enormous team effort in the most difficult of circumstances.” Since March 6, the New Jersey Department of Health has issued 18 orders or guidelines for long-term care facilities, which include three state veterans memorial homes, to follow in the midst of the COVID-19 outbreak. The orders and guidelines include curbing outside visitation, allowing facilities to hire out-of-state certified nursing assistants to supplement staff, notifying residents’

Middlesex County has access CytoSorbents authorized to use therapy in patients with COVID to saliva test for COVID-19
M
iddlesex County, in partnership with RUCDR Infinite Biologics, RWJBarnabas Health and Accurate Diagnostic Labs, are on the forefront of innovation in the fight against COVID-19, offering for the first-time a saliva-based test to the community on a mass scale. Introduced recently by RUCDR and ADL, this saliva test, newly approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is a breakthrough that will accelerate not only the volume of testing per day but provide results in 24-48 hours, according to information provided by Middlesex County. Starting April 15, Middlesex County will be the first county government in New Jersey to provide this new test widely in a drive-through setting and at no cost to local first responders and residents. “We are proud of our deep partnerships with RUCDR and Accurate Labs as well as RWJBarnabas Health, who have been on the frontline of this fight against COVID-19 in New Jersey. Middlesex County has built the operations and infrastructure from the ground up to enable us to utilize our extensive partnerships to provide innovative solutions to our community of first responders and residents. Thankfully we have a rare advantage in such a critical time to be able to rapidly deploy increased testing capabilities and accelerated results, while protecting our frontline workers,” Middlesex County Freeholder Director Ronald G. Rios said in the statement. “We believe our stateof-the-art drive-thru model can set a benchmark for testing that can benefit the state and other counties, as we all look for ways to better safeguard our communities in this crisis.” “As the world faces a dire shortage in testing supplies, RUCDR is bringing forth a game-changing response to dramatically increase testing of patients, offering both time and cost efficiencies. With this breakthrough, we have the ability to track and trace infected individuals faster, ultimately mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Moreover, the sheer volume of specimens to be collected will aid in the development of a vaccine and new therapies. For this reason, our partnership with Middlesex County is pivotal for our ongoing research as mass testing
via a drive-thru setting will generate the samples that will provide more accurate and timely information in curtailing the spread of COVID-19,” Andrew Brooks, PhD, COO and director of technology development for RUCDR, said in the statement. The new saliva test developed by RUCDR and Accurate Diagnostic Labs has several significant advantages over the nasal or throat swab test, which include: 100% accuracy in predicting the presence of SARS-CoV2 COVID-19 when compared to currently available swab testing, a simple method of collection (spit and seal), less personal protection equipment required for collection, expedited test results (24-48 hours), reduced exposure and risk to healthcare personnel, high through-put of specimens (up to 10,000 per day), improved staffing requirements as multiple types of healthcare professionals can be used for supervised sample collection, and non-invasive pain-free procedure for sample collection, according to the statement. “Accurate Diagnostic’s capabilities, steeped in a tradition of offering the latest diagnostic technology offerings, is proud to expand our relationship with a local, world-renowned institution in RUCDR Infinite Biologics and now with our own local government, Middlesex County. Together we can deliver the necessary COVID-19 testing at a much broader scale throughout the County, particularly to our front-line health care workers, first responders, and residents by utilizing these new collection and testing methods,” Accurate Diagnostic Labs CEO Rupen Patel said in the statement. “RWJBarnabas Health continues to work with our partners at Rutgers University and with Middlesex County government, as we are all searching for pioneering solutions to help combat the COVID-19 disease. In this context, we are pleased to be the first health system to receive and deploy the new salivabased test innovated by RUCDR in partnership with ADL. This advance will directly benefit our greater community that will now be able to access faster and more accurate testing results, to bring us (Continued on page 7)

ytoSorbents Corporation, a critical care immunotherapy leader commercializing its CytoSorb blood purification technology to treat cytokine storm and deadly inflammation in critically-ill and cardiac surgery patients around the world, announced the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) of CytoSorb for use in patients with COVID-19 infection. Under the EUA, CytoSorbents can make CytoSorb available, through commercial sales, to all hospitals in the United States for use in patients, 18 years of age or older, with confirmed COVID-19 infection who are admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) with confirmed or imminent respiratory failure who have early acute lung injury or acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), severe disease, or life-threatening illness resulting in respiratory failure, septic shock, and/or multiple organ dysfunction or failure, according to information provided by the company on April 13. Patients with COVID-19 infection often exhibit a cytokine storm with severe hyperinflammation that can contribute to worsened injury to vital organs like the lungs, heart and the kidneys. The goal of CytoSorb therapy is to reduce cytokine storm and the deadly inflammatory response through blood purification so that this injury may be mitigated or prevented. CytoSorb is plug-and-play compatible with the most commonly used blood purification machines or pumps in the intensive care unit used to treat COVID-19 patients, including hemoperfusion, hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machines, according to the statement. “We greatly appreciate the FDA’s recognition, through this EUA, of the potential of CytoSorb and extracorporeal blood purification to help patients stricken with this terrible illness. It was clear in this truly collaborative process with the FDA, that the agency was committed to urgently

providing physicians and patients with new treatment options in the fight against COVID-19. We plan to continue working with the FDA to help as many patients as possible,” Vincent Capponi, chief operating officer of CytoSorbents, said in the statement. “As a U.S. based company with CytoSorb device manufacturing in New Jersey, we are eager to expand the availability of CytoSorb to U.S. hospitals and patients as a treatment option to fight cytokine storm and deadly inflammation that is believed to exacerbate COVID-19 infection. With more than 555,000 documented coronavirus infections, the U.S. leads the world with over 22,000 deaths, and emergently needs new therapies to reduce the severity of this disease. This is important not just to reduce poor clinical outcomes and mortality, but to also alleviate the bottleneck for scarce resources such as ventilators and ECMO in the treatment of these critically-ill patients,” Dr. Phillip Chan, PhD, chief executive officer of CytoSorbents, said in the statement. “CytoSorb has been used in critically-ill and cardiac surgery patients in more than 80,000 human treatments abroad, to help treat the same complications seen in COVID-19 patients such as lung failure, shock and multi-organ failure. With CRRT, and in many cases ECMO, being standard in ICUs worldwide, CytoSorb can be easily implemented with minimal training. More than 200 COVID-19 patients have been treated with CytoSorb outside the U.S., resulting in the inclusion of CytoSorb into the COVID-19 treatment guidelines in Italy, Panama and China. We have now received more than 70 requests from major U.S. hospitals to use CytoSorb in COVID-19 patients. Under the EUA, we plan to ramp the availability of CytoSorb in a controlled manner, to clinical centers that will work with us to generate data and leverage our knowledge of how to use the device most effectively. We are pleased to collaborate with the FDA to make this possible.” (Continued on page 6)

Superintendent explains report card issuance during distance learning EAST BRUNSWICK – Using distance learning techniques to educate students, Superintendent Victor Valeski explained how East Brunswick Public Schools will plan for the final semester of the school year. “I know better than anyone that our warmer weather draws us to be outside and I know we miss being around each other,” Valeski said in a prepared statement. “I hope you understand that during this critical time of possible community transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19), “I must keep our playgrounds and outdoor athletic facilities closed with the exception of our high school track. The track will remain open for public use as long as we can comply with social distancing standards.” Valeski said this action is for everyone’s safety and for the district’s compliance with Gov. Phil Murphy’s executive
orders, issued during this pandemic. Murphy also announced schools will be closed at least through May 15, during his daily update on April 16. “I’d like to express my continued appreciation for the hard work and effort that our students and staff are exhibiting during distance learning,” Valeski said in his statement. “I also appreciate and recognize the tremendous contributions our families are making to support student learning during this time.” Third marking period grades will be posted on the parent portal on April 20. Fourth marking period grading guidance is as follows: • For kindergarten to fifth grade students, there are many variables that preclude the district from conventionally assessing its K-fifth grade students the way it would with a traditional elementary report card. In order to recognize the students’ ef-
fort and growth during distance learning, teachers will provide ongoing feedback on each student’s progress in lieu of a traditional report card. • For sixth to 12th grade students, grades will be recorded and a report card will be issued. Grades will be based on participation and assignments. All students will be exempt from final exams. Students will be graded weekly so they can track their progress in each class. • Teachers will update grades in Genesis weekly. Parent Access will remain viewable. Students may request a course be graded Pass/Fail for the fourth marking period by contacting their teacher and/ or school counselor. Additional details regarding the fourth marking period grading will be shared with parents in the near future by their child’s principal. “The social media posts showing student/family participation in authentic
learning activities are impressive and inspiring,” Valeski said in the statement. “Engaging with our school community in this virtual way has allowed us to see creativity, enthusiasm and a genuine love of learning, something we strive for in our classrooms every day that we are together. “As always, I remain confident that all students will maintain academic integrity and put forth their finest efforts,” Valeski continued. “Thank you for the commitment you’ve shown in partnering with your child’s teachers to maintain the East Brunswick Public Schools’ high expectations for teaching and learning. I wish the best for each of you and your families.” For more information, visit www.ebnet. org.

SOUTH RIVER – Stepping to help residents in need during the coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the South River Food Bank is asking for essential items to be donated. Supervisor Elizabeth Lukacs said the food bank is open to South River residents who are experiencing a need for assistance. Regular distribution is from 10 a.m. to noon each Wednesday and the first two Saturdays of the month. Lukacs said an ID and current proof of South River residence are required. In accordance with the current social distancing guidelines, bags are pre-packed by the food bank volunteers and distributed outside of the food bank. “While our regular distribution is limited to one visit per month per household, we are fortunate to be receiving a variety of perishable items from MCFOODS (Middlesex County Food Organization and Outreach Distribution Services) three to four days a week which allows us to offer
our clients the opportunity to pick up these additional items,” Lukacs said. The most needed items are canned soups and stews, canned meats, canned tuna, canned fruit, peanut butter, shelfstable milk, pasta, rice side mixes, canned pork and beans, and canned vegetables. “To make it easier for those who wish to donate non-perishable food items or personal products, we have added hours specifically for drive up and drop off of donations outside the food bank,” Lukacs said. The food bank is located at 98 Jackson St. The food bank is open on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30-11 a.m. and 5-6 p.m. The food bank is also open on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to noon and on Saturdays from 1-3 p.m. If residents prefer to make monetary donations, Lukacs said checks may be made out to The South River Food Bank and mailed to the borough offices at 48 Washington St., South River. Spotswood introduces ordinance assigning $2.5M grant for lake By VASHTI HARRIS Staff Writer
SPOTSWOOD – The Borough Council has introduced a capital ordinance to provide funding to finance the municipality’s Devoe Lake remediation and restoration project. On June 5, 2019, the Borough Council approved a resolution authorizing officials to execute a $2.5 million grant contract with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for the restoration of Devoe Lake. “Through the years, silt and sediment have built up to a level that allows the water foliage to grow at such a rate of speed the lake is overrun within months. It also limits the amount of water that can be retained, which ultimately affects the flood plain both up and downstream,” Mayor Edward Seely had said during the Oct. 7, 2019, council meeting. The council introduced an ordinance authorizing the usage of the $2.5 million grant to fund the project on April 6. A second and final reading is set for April 20. Devoe Lake was created in 1935 after the construction of the dam on the Manala-
pan Brook. The shallow depth of the 38-acre lake, in addition to the accumulation of sediment, has resulted in flooding after storms, according to a statement provided by the New Jersey Legislative Democrats. The grant will facilitate the borough’s ability to have the lake dredged, alleviating future flooding. Additionally, the borough hopes to make aesthetic improvements to the landscaping and lighting around the lake and to open the area to public recreation, according to the statement. Seely said officials plan to start at the lakeside section of the lake and work their way back. He said, “$2.5 million doesn’t get you far, but it does get you pretty far when you think about distance. … So it turns out we are getting the money, we just have to turn in receipts like we do. While we were there they also set us up with Green Acres because Green Acres also has funding for the lake [and] there could be avenues to go through to get that money.” Seely said hopefully within the next five or six years, the borough will see Devoe Lake newly restored.
Therapy (Continued from page 3)
According to the EUA letter from the FDA, “There are no FDA approved, licensed or cleared device treatments for COVID-19. Based on bench performance testing and reported clinical experience, FDA has concluded that the CytoSorb device may be effective at treating certain patients with confirmed COVID-19 by removing various pro-inflammatory cytokines from their blood. FDA believes, based on the totality of scientific evidence available, that the removal of pro-inflammatory cytokines may ameliorate cytokine storm due to the overabundance of pro-inflammatory cytokines and, in turn, provide clinical benefit,” adding that “It is reasonable to believe that the CytoSorb device may be effective in treating patients 18 years of age or older with confirmed COVID-19 admitted to the ICU with confirmed or imminent respiratory failure, when used consistently with

. “Whether we return to our buildings or -continue utilizing distance learning during rthis time, it remains our mission to support our students in every way possible,” Peabody said in the statement. “Understanding this, we continue to review and refine our distance learning practices to best provide and support our teachers with a variety of online resources that they can evaluate and choose to utilize as they continue to support our students.” On a daily basis, Peabody said the district’s teachers continue to assess the needs of each class they teach, attempting to balance the demands and needs of the curriculum, the content, the skills, the interactions, and of course, the students. “As each class has different needs, instruction will continue to look different in each classroom; distance learning does not change that reality,” Peabody said in the statement. “As more information becomes available from our state and county, further communication will follow as we continue to assess our current situation. “Until then, may you and your family remain safe and healthy,” Peabody said in the statement.

Tips on controlling utility usage while at home Responders deserve line of duty death benefits
U
nder the stay at home order, households are likely to see increases in their monthly utility bill. Naturally, being home throughout the day means lights left on, devices plugged in longer, TVs on, more stove-top and microwave cooking and so more dishwashing and higher water usage. To help households get smarter about their usage, I’d like to share some practical tips for resident: Remember to turn off lights and maximize natural light by opening blinds. Reduce heat in your washer and maximize heat in your dryer. Using warm water instead of hot cuts the energy used to do a load in half, and washing in cold water saves even more. Avoid doing small loads: Your washing machine uses roughly the same amount of energy for a full versus partial load. When it comes to dryer use, try lower heat settings or doing back-toback loads.
Same goes for dishwashers. Reduce heat and only do full loads. Also, there’s no need to prewash dishes, just scrape off food. Power down your electronics when you step away for a couple hours. Put them on power saving or sleep mode for shorter breaks over 30 minutes. Keeping your computer running for long periods of time uses more energy than the small surge it takes to start it up. I urge residents to also familiarize themselves with new policies adopted by utility servicers to provide relief during this time. Many water and electric and gas utility servicers have pledged to suspend shut-offs. Others are waiving late fees and interest to protect customers from debt. New law to improve stroke care in New Jersey
O
n Jan. 21, Gov. Phil Murphy signed a bill that would improve the stroke system of care in New Jersey. The bill was passed unanimously by both houses of the Legislature. The new law ensures that stroke centers are certified to ensure they have the pieces in place to treat stroke patients in a timely manner. It would also require EMS providers to have protocols in place to identify stroke and transport patients to the appropriate facility quickly. Stroke kills nearly 3,500 people in New Jersey every year and causes lifelong disabilities for thousands more. Patients who receive treatment in the first three hours after stroke symptoms appear have the best chance of not only surviving, but of resuming daily life with limited lingering problems. Sadly, too many stroke patients do not
receive timely care. They are left to wait in emergency rooms for hours or taken to hospitals that are not equipped to treat their conditions, wasting precious minutes and hours. As a stroke survivor and advocate for the American Heart Association, I believe that New Jersey stroke patients deserve better. This law will improve stroke care. I thank the governor and all members of the Legislature who supported this law to ensure that stroke patients receive the best care possible. For more information on stroke, visit stroke.org. A
s a matter of practice, policy and procedure, the vast majority of law enforcement agencies provide for certain employment benefits for all sworn personnel, to include among them a special death benefit status known as a Line of Duty Death. This status occurs when the injuries which caused the officers demise were incurred from actions they took while providing law enforcement services to the community they serve. Being designated as a line of duty death also typically provides the surviving family with greater healthcare and death benefits. Under the normal connotation of this status, these officers have died due to being shot, stabbed, run over by vehicles, or suffering death-related injuries in struggles with suspects. Yet there is now another cause for deaths of law enforcement first responders that should, and must, be considered as a line-of-duty related death: that cause is the death of a law enforcement first responder due to contracting the novel coronavirus. To date, law enforcement and correctional officer first responders in Illinois, Michigan, New York, New Jersey, Florida and California have died after contracting this deadly disease. And officers in at least eight states are known to have tested positive for the virus. It must be accepted and understood that they more than likely contracted this disease while conducting their duty-related services of responding to calls for service in their communities, or serving
in prison environments, bringing them into close physical contact with persons who were either carriers of the virus or who had otherwise been exposed to the virus. In other words, they were most likely infected with the virus that took their lives while performing their duties as first responders. Law enforcement and correctional officers do not have the privilege of being able to “stay at home” or telecommute for their job. Ours is, unfortunately, a true “feelytouchy, in your face” type of occupation. We must actually be in direct contact and confrontation with people in order to do our job. Yes, it is one that we have gladly espoused for one reason or another, always recognizing that it is a dangerous occupation. We urge all law enforcement and corrections agencies, whether they be municipal, county, state, or federal, to recognize the men and women who serve and are now dying from this disease as the true heroes that they are, and bestow upon them full line of duty death benefits. We as well demand that they make every effort to insure that these officers have access to the resources and equipment necessary to protect them from incurring this death-dealing disease.

East Brunswick should ban vape shops
C
an’t our so-called government leaders get things straight? How many people must die from smoking cigarettes or have died as proof smoking kills? Wake up to the truth. So, how many young people, even those in middle school who sneak into the restrooms to vape, will or have died before you outlaw these killers? Parents today do not pay attention to all dangers but our and your officials are supposed to uphold safe lives for children, too. So, use your brains and tell them, “Stop more vaping shops. Limiting shops for new vape? Restrictions? No. Just no more shops.” I have no smokers in my family, no young ones in public schools who are subject to some students who vape. A dear brother died of lung cancer. It was due to cigarettes. A horrible way to end a life, shrinking to near 60 pounds for a man who was once on his high school basketball team.
When the elected government officials are too weak to act on bad things, citizens must act. Locating them on Edgeboro Road or Harts Lane area? Restricting areas? It’s a joke. Older siblings are also to blame, who drive younger relatives to areas or are secretly buying the vaping items. As a parent whose child was attending Hammarskjold school years ago, waiting to be picked up, I went into the office to see why a small vehicle was patrolling the entrances. I was shocked to learn it was there to check sixth graders who had been caught selling marijuana to other students. I am too old and weak to organize a protest at the municipal building to this lack of action by the council. No more vape shops. I would if I could, but parents, get out there.

ON THE ROAD PETER PERROTTA
2021 Kia Seltos SX Turbo AWD
B
ack in 2003, when I was a fledgling Honda car salesman, Honda introduced a radical new boxy-styled SUV model called the Element. It was designed to appeal to active lifestyle Gen X’ers who enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, skateboarding, rock climbing or anything else that might muddy up your car. It had washable seats, urethane floors – so you could hose it down – removable back seats and an Peter Perrotta attachable camper you could zip into the tailgate so you could sleep in it. The problem was, despite the cool commercials depicting hip music and edgy scenes, it never quite caught on with that Gen X crowd. By 2011, Honda laid the Element to rest. Fast forward to today. Kia, an increasingly popular South Korean car maker, is introducing an all new model – the 2021 Kia Seltos – designed to appeal to the active millennial crowd and youthful, tech-savvy buyers as well. I recently test drove the neat looking, sub-compact, SUV crossover for one week and came away quite impressed – overall – with this new model. While not flawless, there is a lot to like in this new model Kia will now sandwich between the boxy Sole and stylish Sportage. The big question, though, remains to be seen. Will this new model attract the demographic buyer Kia is looking to capture? Or, will it go the way of the swing and miss Element. Obviously, it’s too soon to tell. However, if recent success for Kia is any judge, it may well hit a home run with this vehicle, or at least maybe a triple. In 2020, Kia introduced the highly sought after and critically acclaimed Tel-

luride, a full- sized SUV. This vehicle has been a smash hit, so far. It is sold out at most dealerships and is even commanding over sticker prices in some regions. Will the Seltos be Kia’s next hot car? Possibly. But first, we have to figure out what a Seltos is. The Seltos gets its name from the son of the Roman mythological God Hercules, who was named Celtos, who later became the father of the Celtics. As the legend goes, Celtos’ mother was a princess named Celtine, who Hercules encountered while herding cattle on her father’s farm. The Seltos, which is currently available at your local Kia dealerships, is offered in 6 different models: the entry level LX 2.0 liter AWD; S 2.0 liter FWD; S 2.0 liter AWD; EX 2.0 liter AWD; S 1.6 liter turbo AWD and the SX 1.6 liter turbo AWD. I tested the top-of-the line SX 1.6 turbo AWD that carries a base price of $27,890. The entry level LX 2.0 liter AWD has a base price of $21,900. The final MSRP sticker price of my tester came in at $29,485 – added options included $345 for the Starbright Yellow/ black roof paint; $130 for carpeted floor mats and $1,120 for destination and delivery.
The models featuring the 2.0 liter, 4 cylinder engine produce 146 horsepower at 132 pound feet of torque. My tester’s 1.6 liter, 4 cylinder turbo engine put out 175 horsepower at 195 pound feet of torque. The 2.0 liter engines get the Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) , which are similar to the CVT (continuously variable transmission) in that they have one continuous gear. The 1.6 liter turbo engines are married with a more traditional, 7-speed, dual clutch transmission. Some of the early reviews of the SX Turbo Seltos have criticized the performance of the engine, transmission combination saying that it produces an uneven upshifting and downshifting feel. I can’t say that I totally agree with these critiques. What, I did find was that this Seltos is no speed burner, if that’s what you are looking for. I found that the 1.6 liter turbo supplied adequate power for aggressive lane changes and highway passings, but it didn’t blow me away with its firepower. It has three drive mode selections – that control the powertrain, drivetrain and steering – normal, smart and sport. You get a rather average drive in the normal mode, so I found myself reaching for the sport
mode choice on most drives. I was more impressed with the handling and steering. The Seltos is a utility player, able to adapt to smooth highway driving, city driving or off-road adventures – it has a locking differential – rather easily. The steering is precise and the ride quality is impressive. The Seltos is comfortable, as well. There is plenty of room, front and back. Moreover, with the second row seats folded down, it had an impressive amount of cargo room. I was easily able to load my bike in and out without much struggle at all. The EPA fuel economy ratings for this vehicle are 27 miles per gallon (MPG) overall – 25 mpg in city driving and 30 mpg on the highway. The average annual fuel cost is estimated at $1,500. It uses about 3.7 gallons of fuel per every 100 miles driven. This vehicle has not been crash test rated for the government’s 5-star safety ratings yet. Stylistically, I feel this Seltos has the potential to be a winner. It has an aggressive edgy stance and looks like its ready to rumble. “This is a pretty cool looking car, Dad,” my 21-year-old son said when he first saw it. The interior of the SX Turbo is nicely designed and it comes chock full of standard features. Standard features include: 8-inch touch screen infotainment system with navigation, Android auto and Apple carplay; a Bose premium audio system; heated front seats; 10-way power driver’s front seat; 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, fog lamps; Kia Drivewise, driver assist technology package and a lot more. If you are looking into a sub-compact, crossover SUV – while it’s a crowded field these days – one would be remiss not to consider this brand new Seltos.

Novenas Miraculous Invocation to St. Therese O Glorious St. Therese, whom Almighty God has raised up to aid and inspire the human family, I implore your Miraculous Intercession. You are so powerful in obtaining every need of body and spirit from the Heart of God. Holy Mother Church proclaims you “Prodigy of Miracles... the Greatest Saint of Modern Times. Now I fervently beseech you to answer my petition (mention here) and to carry out your promises of spending Heaven doing good upon earth... Of letting fall from Heaven a Shower of Roses. Little Flower, give me your childlike faith, to see the Face of God in the people and experiences of my life, and to love God with full confidence. St. Therese, my Carmelite Sister, I will fulfill your plea “to be made known everywhere and I will continue to lead others to Jesus through you. Amen.
R.G. St. Therese Novena O little Therese of the Child Jesus, please pick for me a rose from the heavenly gardens and send it to me as a message of love. O little Flower of Jesus, ask God today to grant the favors I now place with confidence in your hands.. (mention specific requests) St. Therese, help me to always believe as you did, in God’s great love for me, so that I might imitate your “Little Way each day. Amen.

PRAYER IS POWERFUL Oh, most beautiful flower of Mount Carmel, fruitful vine of splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me herein you are my Mother. Oh, Holy Mary Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth! I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to succor me in this petition. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my Mother. Oh Mary conceived without sin pray for us who have recourse in thee (3Xs). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3Xs). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so I can attain my goal. You who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. + Say this prayer 3 consecutive days and publish prayer after petition is granted. Do not despair. Additional advice and petition. Pray the Rosary regularly. F.A.M.
Prayer to St. Jude Most holy Apostle St. Jude, faithful servant and friend of Jesus the name of the traitor who delivered the beloved Master into the hands of His enemies, has caused you to be forgotten by many but the Church honors and prays to you universally as the patron of hopeless cases, of things despaired of. Pray for me who am so miserable; make use I implore you of that particular privilege accorded to you to bring visible and speedy help, where help is almost despaired of. Come to my assistance in this great need that I may receive the consolations and help of Heaven in all my necessities, tribulations and sufferings particularly (here make your request) and that I may bless God with you and all the elect forever. I PROMISE you, blessed St. Jude to be ever mindful of this great favor and I will never cease to honor you as my special and powerful patron and to do all in my power to encourage devotion to you. Amen. May the most just, most high and most adorable Will of God be in all things done, praised and magnified, forever and ever. Amen.
