Reading's very own Shala Rostick is a young entrepreneur
with an amazingly unique clothing line called "The Daily Fro", encouraging all ethnic women to love their natural hair just the way it is. It is very fresh and new on the scene, as she just started it in August of this year. "I was inspired by the big city naturals . When I travel to other cities natural hair is so much more embraced and popular . It makes me feel good, like I fit right in," says Shala. Her ultimate goal is to give recognition to those in our city who embrace their natural textures and maybe inspire others to do the same. We live in a time where society's views of what is and is not considered to be beautiful or even acceptable can feel very constricting for those who are different, making it hard for women of all ethnic backgrounds to take pride in the way they were naturally created. There is a lack of appreciation for ethnic hair whether it is a curly, kinky, wavy fro, we should learn to love it. "I want everyone to know to love their hair and to teach our young girls to love their hair as well . Our hair is beautiful and unique . Not everyone's hair can do what ours does . Embrace it , love it ! It's so easy to get caught up in societies vision of how a woman should look , when in reality we already have the look ." Her favorite piece is a black V-neck with the grown and sexy logo that can be seen in above photo. It is $20.00 and is her best seller. Get yours now!

About National Hispanic Heritage Month Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. The observation started in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week under President Lyndon Johnson and was expanded by President Ronald Reagan in 1988 to cover a 30-day period starting on September 15 and ending on October 15. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100402. The day of September 15 is significant because it is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively. Also, Columbus Day or DĂa de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Parents/Guardians! Recent data suggests that the 2014-15 9th grade class entering Reading High School (RHS) will have less than a 60% chance to make it to graduation. Only half of those who do manage to graduate will go on to college. The reason we exist is to help make the graduation rate 100% for our student participants and provide them with the support, encouragement and skills required to grow and thrive in the new economy after graduation. If you know a student entering the 9th grade at RHS for the 2014-15 school year and you want to provide him or her with a unique support system throughout their entire high-school career to register you for our program by going to www.sharedgrowth.org/register or email us at fab@sharedgrowth.org for more information. Thank you! The staff at Shared Growth, Inc.
