Rapper/Actor YOUNG H SKYLINE opens up and tells in his own opinion on how music paints a picture, tells a story, and is a voice gateway for low income communities. Explaining how music is very much a part of the culture in the streets and how it affected his life. “It’s not a matter of where you come from or where you reside”, struggle mirrors the struggle and can be understood when understanding the fillings of it. Born and raised in North Philadelphia and now a resident of Reading, Pa, I’ve had my fair share of struggles and hard times and can easily relate to my peers through a common interest “MUSIC”. Rather it’s Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel or whichever genre a person prefers when it speaks the life of the community we reside in , it’s relatable. A Voice is a Powerful Instrument I learned to express my emotions through music. Growing up in areas we identify as the “GHETTO” music becomes a way of life. At an early age I became creative with my words to describe my surroundings. It was almost inevitable when I heard the sounds of Biggie Smalls, 2 Pac, Jay Z and other artist that have made a major influence on the culture. I’m a product of my environment, but when most see a problem, I see a solution. A lot of successful people have walked the same pavements I’ve walked, and can relate to the same legal situations I face and speak a similar story to which I tell. All in all, the key word is SUCCESS. None of these issues stood in the way of the ultimate goal “Becoming Successful”. I’m currently working on my 3rd mix tape called Chicken Season 2 Believer produced and engineered by a talented local native Stacks Beats. Acting on a television show that airs on WMCM network called Brotherhood of Silver, which is currently filming the second season. Also in developments, in what hopes to be a successful clothing line called True Believer with the Heavy Weight Boxing Champion who holds two titles Travis Kauffman who’s also a Reading native. While I deal with this small setback from behind these walls, I continue to stay focused on achieving success. Young H Skyline Afro/Latino

Chocolate Times, in its 3rd publications is honored to bring to you the following interview and as I sit here and contemplate what to ask this phenomenal man, Mr. Charlie Haynes I can only think does this man know the significance and impact he has had on the city of Reading. The author of multiple books, How I Became A Nut and Made A Million and Making A Difference, I am willing to bet that for the majority of Black Men in Reading they are directly or indirectly groomed by the brilliance of Mr. Charlie Haynes. The Barbershop, a cornerstone in every urban area, from Reading to Los Angeles it is the place where topics such as politics, sports, life, woman, manhood, and religion are discussed daily. I remember as a youngin' hanging in "Da Shop" pretending to be next in line but only so the older Black Men would buy my spot and allow me to hustle a few dollars on Saturdays. It is the Black Man’s County Club and home to the Fresh One.
So Mr. Charlie when was your 1st haircut? Who was it? In 1948 my father gave me hand clippers and told me one of his sons would be a barber, I used to cut the kids hair in the neighborhood as a child but I did not take my father serious...pauses and smirks now look....in 1956 met Mr. Miller and the rest was history
Mr. Charlie how do you feel about the city of Reading? Wherever you go and whatever you are looking for you will find. Whatever your vice is you will find, no different than any other city. Most people criticize and do not know the depths of the situation, whether it is politics, religion, or whatever but people pass judgement and do not get involved. Reading is a beautiful place and it is my home.
If you were mayor what is the first thing you’d do? Find out from citizens what they need most and get the resources needed to help, all public servants should listen to the voices of the people and help out to the best of their abilities.
What makes you happy? Anytime I could feed someone who was hungry and in need, anytime I could provide shelter for a person who needed a roof over their head, or giving comfort to someone who was dealing with some type of misery or pain.
If you could do anything in the world and knew you wouldn’t fail, what would you do? I would like to a conversation with Jesus and be taught by him concernng the 18 years of his life that he is absent.
Let’s play word association. Life-Limited Family-Not enough of them Love-Should be pure Money-Medium of exchange Legacy-Opinion of people Rob Pollard-knew as a young kid and teenager lost track of him in adult years so it is hard to define Reading-Beautiful place to live Haircut-Know the 3 types straight, curly, and wavy. Barbershop-Must be married to it and give attention 24 hrs a day just like any other marriage Charlie Haynes- Still searching to find him Here you have it folks a icon in our back yard I urge all of you to read his books, Mr. Charlie it has been a pleasure and the time is Right Now to support our OWN. Each 1 teach 2 In closing Mr. Charlie is a seeker of truth and the continous lies given to generation upon generation is the result of our current world. Mr. iCARE.....Peace

Who do you surround yourself? The Other day I was watching Madascar 3 with my niece, and (the zebra) said something wise “forget about, the herd I am flying with flock baby, I wanna fly” Have you ever wanted to soar in School, in work, or other activity? Did you ever wonder what it would take to attain success? Once you established a mindset of success, created positive habits, the only thing you need is to surround yourself with are people who are on the same track or already achieved your goal. Changing who you hang out with is probably the single most difficult thing for most people do, for the simple fact that we have emotional ties to those we given titles of friend or family member. Jon Vroman said in his book Living life in the front row, “If there are 5 drunk people and you are around then you surely will be the sixth, however If you are surrounded by 5 millionaires and you are among them then you will be the sixth.” If you want to become successful look at the five people you hang out with and ask yourself “Am I the smartest, strongest, most successful person out the five?” If you answer is yes then you need to make a critical change. When you make this transition, be aware some relationships will change and many will end and when this occur know that there are some people who come into your life for a reason, and others for a season, but it is up to you to control the season and to give the relationship the reason.
