The legendary sleuth, Sherlock Holmes, takes the stage in this witty, fast-paced production by the acclaimed Aquila Theatre. The clever Holmes skillfully maneuvers the twisted web of London’s most intriguing cases with his split-second deductions, revealing intimate and useful details of a person's life. Sherlock Holmes is a master of disguise and a brilliant actor, as well as a composer and musician–is there anything he can’t do? Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s vivid characters jump from the page-weaving a tale of mystery, suspense and intrigue. In addition to Holmes, many of Doyle’s other well-known characters are on hand: the trusted sidekick Dr. Watson; Irene Adler, both the woman who won his respect and the one who got away; and the red-headed mason Jabez Wilson.

The guitar duo of Julian Lage and Chris Eldridge is a collaborative effort founded in the roots of acoustic music, exploring the worlds of improvisation and composition. With Lage’s background in traditional jazz and new guitar music, and Eldridge’s deep relationship with Bluegrass and Americana as well as being a member of the widely acclaimed and Grammy® -nominated band Punch Brothers, this duo lives at the nexus of improvisation, spontaneous composition, and virtuosic refinement, all performed on their respective 1939 Martin guitars. Lage and Eldridge’s combined sound, which can be heard on their 2014 first full-length album Avalon, is a portrait of a burgeoning friendship between two virtuosic players. At its heart, their music is a pristinely recorded love letter to the sound of the acoustic guitar. education

& engagement

LIFELONG LEARNING IN THE ARTS

The Norton Center is pursuing more personal engagements with its constituents and presenting artists that surpass typical expectations in an effort to form a long-term trust among the Norton Center, the College, and its audience. The Center’s reach extends far beyond the campus and Danville, as each year more than 5,000 elementary, middle, and high school students enjoy matinees of main stage performances at discounted rates. Centre College students and residents of the region also benefit from Norton Center activities by participating in lectures, seminars, master classes, and symposia surrounding various programs.

K-12 ACTIVITIES The goal of these programs is to provide teachers and students with a performing arts journey into global cultures and history, while also supplying educators with curriculum guides specifically created for the performance or program that meet national and state standards. To sign up to receive a 2015-2016 Professional Performances for Young Audiences Brochure, please visit nortoncenter.com/education-engagement.

The Norton Center is your center for the arts. Ticket sales go a long way to support the performances that appear on our stages each season but, as with all nonprofit arts organizations, the Norton Center must rely upon the active involvement of our community to lend financial support. Tax-deductible gifts from donors allow the Norton Center to offer a diverse array of live, engaging performances, expand our professional programs for young audiences and provide workshops, lecture/demonstrations, and residency programs with visiting artists as our service to cultural engagement and learning.
