RODENFELS DOES IT AGAIN Centre senior Annie Rodenfels added another memorable evening to her illustrious career at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships. Rodenfels earned a national runner-up finish in the indoor 5k, finishing 12 seconds away from her second career national championship. The runner-up finish also gave Rodenfels her fifth All-America honor in her time at Centre between track and cross country. It was an exceptionally fast track at this year's indoor 5k championship as Rodenfels finished with a time of 16:35.40, a full nine seconds faster than the school record time she established in the event this past December in the same facility at Boston University. It was one of the fastest times in indoor 5k history, with the previous meet record for the event at 16:31.

MEN'S HOOPS CLAIMS SECOND STRAIGHT SAA REGULAR SEASON TITLE For the second consecutive season, the Centre men's basketball squad won the Southern Athletic Association regular season championship, finishing with a 12-2 conference record. Centre led the league in both scoring offense (72.4 ppg) and defense (60.8) in the 14 conference games, and went a perfect 7-0 against SAA opponents at home. The Colonels earned the right to host the SAA Tournament, as well, ultimately falling in the championship game.
ZIMMERMAN ERA UNDERWAY FOR CENTRE MEN'S LACROSSE FORMER TAR HEEL BRINGS DIVISION I PEDIGREE TO THE COLONELS
Less than one season into his time as Centre men's lacrosse head coach, Grant Zimmerman's impact has been felt. The Colonels, who have already surpassed last season's win total, are 9-3 overall with wins against three opponents that defeated Centre in 2018. Producing on the field is nothing new to Zimmerman, who had a decorated career himself as an All-American goalie for North Carolina - one of the premier programs in NCAA Division I. His athletic and academic prowess earned him multiple ACC Lacrosse All-Academic honors, and as a junior he was placed on the Tewaarton Trophy watch list (awarded annually to the top player in college lacrosse). After earning his Bachelor of Arts at UNC, Zimmerman played internationally as a member of the Netherlands men's national team. He played in two European Lacrosse Championships (2008, 2012) and was the team captain of the Netherlands at the World Lacrosse Championships in 2010. Prior to arriving at Centre, Zimmerman spent three seasons as the assistant coach at Denison. During his three seasons with Denison, Zimmerman helped the Big Red reach three NCAA Tournaments, including a national semifinal appearance in 2017. The Big Red won the NCAC Tournament each of his three seasons and was a mainstay in the top 25. Now, he's leading a team of his own, and has his sights set on guiding the relatively-young Centre men's lacrosse program to heights never before experienced. He's doing so with the help of his wife, Mattie Zimmerman, who is also an athletic trainer for the Colonels.

FACILITIES UPDATES Softball - This building replaces the old outdoor batting cages. As we seek to provide a positive student-athlete experience, this 3,000-square-foot, climate controlled indoor hitting facility is currently in the finishing stages of construction. This building will feature a turf surface along with two batting cages that will be movable to allow for different configurations and open space for fielding practice. Garage doors that open and face the softball stadium will also be installed. Outdoor Tennis - Construction on a new outdoor tennis complex is scheduled to break ground after commencement, and the project will finish in the summer months. This project will include a complete rebuild of the six playing courts from the foundation to a new surface, new fencing and new lighting. The new courts will support our growing tennis program, which features a program-record 32 players this year. Indoor Tennis - Chowan currently serves as an indoor facility for both the track and tennis programs. The college has recently obtained a warehouse a block away that will be converted to an indoor practice space for track and field. Beginning this summer, Chowan will be converted to solely an indoor tennis facility that will be a game changer for the tennis programs. The facility will provide three indoor courts with a tennis surface as well as new lighting designed specifically for indoor tennis. With the creation of an indoor center, competitive matches and practices will now occur on campus which will reduce missed class-time and travel off campus to other facilities. Indoor Track & Field - The college is currently leasing a 10,000 square foot rectangular warehouse facility a block behind Chowan, know as the Lutes Building. The building has a 43-foot ceiling height and will have a sprayed track surface installed for the flooring. This facility allows track and field to have their own indoor space that will help with both training and recruiting. This space will also improve efficiencies with practice time during the cold weather months. Swimming & Diving - Construction started on this project, in earnest, in January. Once complete, the project will feature an endless pool, which will allow members of the swimming and diving teams the opportunity to practice stroke fundamentals while being videotaped. Coaches will be able to review form and provide instant feedback. The creation of this space will also allow for dry land training and provide a team recruiting and meeting facility.
