HOMECOMING
OCTOBER 19 – 22
2017
WELCOME This fall, you are invited back to Danville for a weekend full of excitement and activities! Whether you are celebrating a reunion or driving down for the day, you can be sure campus will be busy during this annual rite of fall. In the pages that follow, you will find a full schedule of events from Thursday evening through Sunday. Homecoming 2017 will showcase some new events – mini-reunions by major, special dedication ceremonies, and a Gold & White Party for reunion classes 2012-2017! Not to worry, the weekend will still center on traditions like honoring our distinguished alumni and outstanding athletes, celebrating reunions, reconnecting with professors, and hopefully making new friends. When you arrive on campus, please be sure to stop by the Chenault Alumni House where you will be greeted by Centre staff, sign our guest check-in, and grab some delicious local treats! As always, I look forward to seeing you,
Megan Haake Milby ’03 Director of Alumni Affairs

Reception and Gallery Talk with Stephen Rolfe Powell ’74 and Kensuke Yamada Lobby, Norton Center for the Arts
Fire is considered a metaphysical constant of the world. Its tale in our history is as long as the trails of smoke it exudes. Its impact on our figurative and literal landscape radiating into the past, present, and future.

2,000 Degrees: A Fire Odyssey is a three-dimensional exhibition that features whimsical hand-built ceramic sculptures by Japanese artist Kensuke Yamada and exquisite glass creations by Centre professor and glass artist, Stephen Rolfe Powell ’74. The exhibit also highlights new collaborative pieces created by the artists for this show. Each work by each artist has journeyed far. From humble granular beginnings of air, earth, sand, and water to broken tubes of color, mounds of clay, sketches on paper, and drops of paint, they have experienced an odyssey of formation and discovery, manipulated by the hands of two masters and the commonality of two thousand degrees of heat that binds both the glass and the ceramic pieces.
