What are stencils?

Stencils are specially modified flexible polyester with a pattern or letters cut out. When the stencil is laid onto a substrate, paint is applied to the cut-out area, when the stencil is removed the paint remains in the shape of the cut-out area.

Paint is usually applied using a spray or roller, as this has less chance of moving the stencil during application.

How to use a stencil

Why use a stencil instead of a sign?

Stencils can be re-used multiple times and can provide a substantial cost saving compared to traditional signage. A stencil can be placed on virtually any surface, including ones where adhesive signs would not usually adhere, and the simple method of application ensures that almost anyone can apply one with a small amount of preparation.

Although stencils can be obtained as a complete message, you can also create your own messages by using the letter and number packs to provide the ultimate versatility.

1) Choose an area to be place the stencil, check that it is dry, centred and facing the correct direction.

2) Place the stencil onto the surface and hold down the edges using a low-tack adhesive tape. If creating a message with individual letters / numbers, use the marks etched into the stencil to ensure they are lined up correctly.

3) Try to ensure the stencil is flat to the surface, as any raised parts will allow the paint to seep under the edge and result in a less sharp edge. Depending on your paint application method, consider adding more tape around the outside of the stencil to avoid overspray.

4) Apply your paint to the stencil, taking care not to overspray the area. Correct paint selection is important to ensure adhesion but also to prevent seepage. Remove the stencil whilst the paint is still wet to prevent the stencil being stuck to the substrate.

5) Clean the stencil with the appropriate solution suitable for the paint used. Correct cleaning will result in a longer lifespan of the stencil.

If properly cared for, our stencils can be used time and again, making them a cost effective method of producing your own sign or notice.

Stencil Letter and Number Kits

Our laser cut stencil packs are an ideal way to create your own message.

Each letter comes on a separate sheet of polyester, etched spacer marks on each corner allow you to align accurately to the next character.

NOTE: SIZE REFERS TO THE CHARACTER HEIGHT, WITH THE WIDTH VARYING DEPENDANT ON THE INDIVIDUAL CHARACTER.

Industrial Stencil Spray

Specifically formulated for stencilling, this spray produces long lasting, fast drying and highly visible lettering with a brightly coloured, durable finish.

This product is suitable for use on a variety of materials including wood, metal, glass, plastics, ceramics and many more.

Letters and Numbers

A selection of individual letters and numbers, ideal for creating your own messages or simply as a way of marking aisles or bays. The cut-out Vinyl versions are also commonly used for door number marking.

Material Key

Polished Gold Effect

This is a highly polished Aluminium alloy which has been coloured, chemically anodised and finished with a Polyester lacquer. Giving a smooth polished ‘gold effect’ look without the cost of a solid metal. Self adhesive backing.

Polished Chrome Effect

Created from the same base as the polished gold but coloured silver, it gives a chrome like mirror finish. Suitable for interior use only. Self adhesive backing.

Photoluminescent Vinyl

Our Photoluminescent Vinyl conforms to the P.S.P.A. Class 1 classification for brightness and longevity. Self adhesive backing.

Stencil

Our stencils are manufactured from a specially treated flexible Polyester film.

Vinyls

Our Vinyl characters are manufactured from a 75 micron Vinyl with a gloss finish and permanent adhesive. They have a high initial tack for ease of fixing and up to 5 years expected life span.

EV Charging Stencils

These large stencils are digitally cut from laminated vinyl, providing a tough and reusable finish. Each sign can be used with or without the adhesive on the reverse.
