SCAFFOLD SAFETY CHECKLIST Working at height is a dangerous activity and is still the leading cause of workplace fatality. According to the HSE, in 2019/20, of the 111 workers killed in the workplace, 29 of them were killed while falling from height. While the National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) declared a record low number of accidents related to scaffolding in 2020, the organisation cites the commitment of its members to put in place the highest safety standards as the reason for the downward trend. Have scaffolds been erected, altered and dismantled by a competent person? Are all scaffold boards in place? Are all scaffold boards in good condition? Are all guard rails and toe boards fitted? Does scaffold have safe access? Are all guard rails present? Does everyone has a safety harness and helmet? Is all incomplete scaffold blocked off? Is there effective warning notices in place to prevent people using incomplete scaffolding? If required is the scaffolding firmly secured to the building? Has a competent person inspected the scaffolding regularly Do you know the correct load limit? You don’t have to climb or stretch over the guard rails?
