“Every time I see someone getting that light bulb moment and actually getting the idea that they can own their business and control their future, or when someone tells me that because of me starting this organization, their lives were increased in this way, it gives me extreme pride and a sense of accomplishment... At the end of the day, I feel purposeful, like I’ve left my mark on GSU and other people’s lives and that feeling is empowering and THE absolute BEST thing I could have done in college.” Chevon Hines, Founder & First President, CEO at GSU

In fact, almost 200 students and faculty attended one of their events on entrepreneurial careers in the entertainment, tech, product, and business fields.

While listening to a presentation given by a Fortune 500 company that came to his school, Kenny Nguyen, a student at Louisiana State University, was shocked at how boring it was. Rather than tuning it out, he transformed his boredom into a moment of inspiration and founded Big Fish Presentations. Big Fish Presentations is a presentation company based in Baton Rouge, LA that turns presentations into experiences. After being founded in 2011, the company now has over 10 employees and managed to bring in $125,000 in just over a year! What’s New, What Works In the Classroom and on the Street Written by Marty Mattare, Frostburg State University, USASBE VP Conference

This is the theme for the 2013 USASBE conference, January 10-13, in San Francisco, and it sums up a strong focus on the applied side of entrepreneurship. As a perfect venue, San Francisco is a long-time center of innovation and creativity where many worldfamous businesses have been launched. USASBE 2013, the premiere conference for entrepreneurship educators, adds to the many submission opportunities at the conference, which range from competitive papers, developmental papers, cases, workshops, roundtables, to preconference workshops – to the newest venue – emerging impact topics! In addition, some of the top players in entrepreneurial development, public policy, outreach, and research will join us to share their perspectives: Steve Blank, a serial entrepreneur who was named by Harvard Business Review one of 12 Masters of Innovation in recognition of his work in bringing the "greatest clarity to the field of innovation;" Jeff Stamp, renowned for his work in creativity and innovation in the classroom; Ken Yancey, CEO of SCORE and leader of the organization's dynamic transformation; and many others. The USASBE conference is the place for academics, practitioners, and entrepreneurs of all types to network, attend presentations and workshops, and dialogue with some of the leading entrepreneurial thinkers and practitioners in the US. This year for the first time, a Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship is being offered during the Pre-Conference workshops th held on January 10 . Attendance at this workshop (and affiliated workshops offered by UMKC and NYU) will collectively earn the necessary credit for the USASBE Certificate in Social Entrepreneurship. In addition to the regular exhibitors who present products and services of interest to academics, USASBE will also offer a San Francisco Marketplace where local small businesses may showcase their organizations, enterprises, missions, and values.
