In Australia we do not lack the ability to solve poverty; we lack the will. And the richer we become as a society the more unwilling we are to sympathise with those at the bottom of the heap. Clive Hamilton and Richard Denniss—Affluenza

The Good, the Bad and the Ethical  Years 9–11 Why teach on ethics? A systematic study of the major ethical frameworks, this unit helps students become reflective and intentional in their ethical and moral decisions. Extremely practical, it examines numerous issues from the global to the personal. How does The Good, the Bad and the Ethical fit within a broader RE program? The higher order thinking skills required to identify and analyse one’s motives and prejudices are a valuable tool in many senior subjects. Additionally, a sound ethical framework is crucial for young men and women as they negotiate their way through life. CEP’s long-standing study, The Good, the Bad and the Ethical has proved so topical with Year 11s that it has been easy to engage our students and diversify into current events.

Noel Oakey Frederick Irwin Anglican School, WA
