The studio gave an understanding of the management of urban services and their delivery. The scale of exploration was a municipal ward of a city. Students developed a management plan for efficient delivery of a specific service. In the process, they learnt about the technical, financial, social, and other processes involved in managing urban areas. The broad objectives of the studio were: to define the functions and the functionaries of ward management; comprehend citizen charter to determine critical management issues at the ward/local level; understand the day-to-day processes, identifying the gaps within; and develop an implementation plan for management of services at the ward level. The municipal services included: 1.) Solid waste, 2.) Street Management, 3.) Public Health and 4.) Affordable Housing 5.) Sanitation & Sewerage Management, 6.) Street Vending, 7.) Water Body Management, 8.) Municipal Finances etc 9.) Municipal Schools. Based on interactions and self-assessment, students understood the system of delivery with focus on human resources, legislation, technology, processes and finances. The students applied management principles towards efficient management of city services. The learning methods included field visits, case studies and expert lectures.
