25hours Hotel Das Tour, Düsseldorf

A marriage of French flair and German engineering

The interior design of the 25hours Hotel Das Tour, which is scheduled to open in June 2018, draws its inspiration from its location in Düsseldorf's new "Le Quartier Central" urban district and promises "a Franco-German liaison". Particular highlights include the restaurant and bar, the "Paris Club", extending over two storeys: the 16th-floor restaurant is the perfect venue for lunch or dinner while the 17th-floor bar commands spectacular vistas of the city. The wellness suite on the 14th floor offers similarly breathtaking views. Both travellers and the local population are invited to visit the French café, kiosk and bike shop on the ground floor. The latter forms an integral part of the hotel concept in that it hires out "cool" bikes to any guests wishing to take a leisurely tour through the city. Thanks to a special arrangement with MINI, guests can also explore the region on four wheels by taking a test drive. 25hours is a fresh and innovative hotel concept with a focus on individuality and authenticity. Each of the hotels – currently 11 in the Germanspeaking countries, with Düsseldorf as the twelfth – was modelled by a different designer in a unique style and with an individual design story. The concept for the new Düsseldorf establishment was masterminded by a creative team from Stylt Trampoli, based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Inspired by the hotel's location in Düsseldorf's new "Le Quartier Central" urban district and the associated notion of French “joie de vivre” , the 25hours Hotel Das Tour design team endeavoured to create a marriage of French artistic flair and German engineering.

The rooms – a Franco-German liaison The 18-storey hotel tower houses 198 guestrooms: there are French "chambres", in warm hues and imbued with a languorous, artistic charm, and German "Zimmer" with a rectilinear design and crisp colours. The two worlds collide in the Mélange suites. The different traditions also find expression in the guest bathrooms. Those in the French chambres feature grey-jointed, terracotta-finish hexagonal floor tile coverings. These are matched by contemporary brickwork-style wall tiling. The walls in the German bathrooms, by contrast, are fitted with grey large-format tiles. Here, the colourful diagonal patterning of the smallformat floor tiling offers a vibrant counterpoint. While all bathrooms are fitted with overhead rain showers, a number of rooms offer the additional exclusive attraction of a freestanding bathtub on the balcony.

In line with the targeted DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) Silver green building certification, eco-friendly, resource-efficient and – most importantly – low-emission Sopro system products were specified for the waterproofing and tiling works in all 198 guest bathrooms. The wall and floor surfaces were pretreated with the solvent-free Sopro GD 749 synthetic resin primer. A cementitious system solution was then adopted for the waterproofing, tiling and grouting works in these areas. This comprised Sopro FDF flexible sealing compound, Sopro TDS 823 two-component turbo sealing slurry, Sopro FF 450 flexible tile adhesive and Sopro FL flexible tile grout. During installation of the waterproof membrane, particular attention was given to standardscompliant workmanship at the junctions with the Kaldewei shower trays. Here, the new German standard DIN 18534 "Waterproofing for indoor applications" explicitly demands a continuation of the membrane below or its connection to the trays. In the 25hours Hotel, this requirement was met by connecting the membrane to the trays using a special, self-adhesive bath/shower sealing tape, which has been awarded a national test certificate (abP). The products and workmanship for the wall/floor coverings in the kitchen and catering spaces were naturally required to meet high standards of hygiene. For these areas, key criteria such as heat and moisture, temperature fluctuations, the use of chemical cleaning agents and minimizing the proportion of joints had to be factored into the specification of materials. For both hotel kitchens, contractor Baukeramik Wedekind GmbH from Mehring opted for a safe and reliable solution using Sopro EPG 522 epoxy primer in conjunction with Sopro PU-FD 570/571 surface sealant for walls/floors. As in the bathrooms, Sopro FF 450 flexible tile adhesive was selected for the subsequent tiling operations. The joints were then finished using Sopro TFb , a high-strength, highperformance cementitious tile grout. The project was supervised throughout by members of Sopro's Project Consulting team, who were at hand to provide the client, general contractor and applicators with advice and support.
