De luxe hotel interior

February 2018 saw the inauguration of a new five-star-superior hotel, The Fontenay, which sits on the western shore of Hamburger's Outer Alster (Außenalster) lake. For the design of the premiumclass grand hotel, the Hamburg entrepreneur Klaus-Michael Kühne commissioned architectural practice Störmer Murphy and Partners to work in tandem with Milan-based interior designer Matteo Thun. With the aim of building Germany's best hotel, the scheme sets about redefining luxury: indeed, the spa and culinary offerings alone make a visit to the new hotel a truly grandiose and memorable experience. Superlative standards were expected down to the tiniest detail. Accordingly, the project team specified Sopro system products for works in large parts of the hotel. These areas included the swimming pool, spa facility, hotel kitchens and decks of the infinitystyle pool.

Dining and wellness with views of Outer Alster The Fontenay is a highly distinctive hotel with a personal touch that is effortlessly styled in a manner that blends excellence with exclusivity. Its centrepiece is located in the rooftop structure on the sixth and seventh storeys: here, perched high above the city and commanding "infinite" views of the Outer Alster lake, lies the Fontenay Spa, a luxurious approx. 1,000 m² relaxation suite with an impressive combination of wellness, beauty and sport offerings. The 20 m long swimming pool, whose linearity stands in stark and surprising contrast to the curvilinear forms of the rest of the building, can be used either as an indoor or open-air facility. From the swimmers' perspective, the line of water in the infinity pool appears to converge with the Outer Alster lake. The wellness facilities also include a sequence of rest areas, several feature showers and ice fountains, a panorama sauna and an aroma-quartzite steam baths. At the same time, a spa suite offers visitors greater privacy while relaxing. The culinary service available at the hotel likewise meets the standards to be expected of a five-star luxury establishment: guests have the benefit of two independently operating kitchens, one for the ground-floor garden restaurant, the other for the only 40-seat gourmet restaurant on the seventh storey. The kitchen fit-out concept attached high priority to a symbiosis of reliability, durability and functional performance. Moreover, both the hotel kitchens and swimming pool were subject to the

most stringent hygiene requirements. This meant that all products specified for the waterproofing and tiling works in both areas were required to meet the highest standards of hygiene. These products also had to be sustainable, pose no health hazards and ensure the rapid progress of the works.

Faithful implementation of complex application details Tiling contractor Fliesen-Lechner from Grimma relied on Sopro system products to offer and deliver fully satisfactory solutions. The expert tilelayers paid close attention to good-practice detailing and the use of properly co-ordinated materials. In the swimming pool, Sopro TDS 823 two-component turbo sealing slurry, installed in two coats, ensured the standards-compliant waterproofing of the heavy-duty poolside areas and long-term protection against moisture damage. The fully vitrified stoneware tiles were laid with Sopro's No.1 flexible tile adhesive. The joints in the coverings were finished with Sopro TF+ (1 – 10 mm), a high-performance, highstrength cementitious tile grout. In keeping with the interior design concept, the tile covering, with its velvety finish and bright beige hue, adds a discreet note to the harmonious ambience of peacefulness and exclusivity. With the Sopro AEB 640 waterproofing and separating membrane, both hotel kitchens incorporate a barrier below the ceramic wall and floor tiling that adequately resists the heavy exposure to cleaning and process water. Here, Sopro FF 450 flexible tile adhesive was used to install the tile coverings. The specified grout, as in the swimming pool, was Sopro TF+. Throughout the design and construction phases, members of Sopro's Project Consulting team were at hand to provide the client, design practice and contractor with advice and support.
