Hello Jaguars! I can’t believe school has started for some of us and others are starting next week! I’m ready to see new and old faces and end my senior year with a bang! Since the school year is almost starting, KIWIN’S has to start fresh again by recruiting new members. My goal as your lieutenant governor is to increase our membership by ten percent. Need help on how to recruit new members from your school? No need to fear! Feel free to contact our district board MD&E chair, Leon Chen! His job is to make sure you have all the necessary information to increase your club’s membership. Remember, you can always come to me and ask. I cannot wait to see the new faces of Jade Division. Transitioning back to school is hard, but do not give up. When you’re stressed about school or your personal life, just reflect on everything. Reflecting on actions will make you a better person. Remember that it’s family, school, and then KIWIN’S. Education should be your main priority. Start your school year with a bang! If you need a person to rant to, feel free to message me.

SPOTLIGHT ON TRUSTEE My name is Avery Hitchcock and I am honored and humbled to have the opportunity of serving as your International Trustee in the coming year! I'm a rising senior at University High School in Greeley, Colorado, so I call the Rocky Mountain District my home! A little about me: I play flute and saxophone, I take my grades very seriously, and enjoy spending time with friends, participating in other extra-curricular like Student Government and National Honor Society, and just having a bit of down-time every now and again. But most of all, I love Key Club! I'm here not only to be your trustee, but to be your friend, so I hope to establish personal and lasting relationships with every one of you throughout my term and I look forward to getting to know all of you better! “You haven't lived until you've dyed running! Run or Dye is a color-blasted celebration of life, friendship, fitness, and fun.”
“On July 6, 2013, Oakland High KIWIN’S volunteered at the Run or Dye event in San Francisco. Eight devoted members arrived at the BART train station at 6 AM and struggled finding their way to the Run or Dye event. Over a thousand runners and over one hundred volunteers participated in this event. The KIWIN’S members helped by cheering on the runners and throwing color powder in the air! They enjoyed this event and left the event looking like Avatars! Traveling to San Francisco was definitely a struggle but at the end, it was worth it! We look forward to volunteering again!”
CNH KIWANIS CONVENTION A week after summer board, Elaine and I accompanied Erika at the Kiwanis Convention from August 15th-18th. This year Kiwanis convention was at the Silver Legacy Hotel in Reno, NV. That’s right! NEVADA. If you know me personally; I can’t stand long car rides! I would like to say thank you to Victor for booking our bus ticket and accompanying us for the weekend. The Kiwanis DCON is definitely different from our district convention. They get more freedom than us! For the weekend, Erika, Elaine and I had a KIWIN’S booth set up for Kiwanians to walk by. I was very surprised that not many Kiwanians know about KIWIN’S. I can’t even remember how many people asked me “What is KIWIN’S?”. During convention, I found out that I can charter many schools from Redding all the way to Reno! I’m in the process of contacting Kiwanis clubs from all over the Bay Area. I can’t wait to expand our division! I am very grateful for this opportunity to experience what the Kiwanis DCON is like. This trip also gave me the opportunity to know our district governor, Erika more better! <3 Good vibes with amazing people. Just the way I like it!

KIWIN’S DISTRICT/GOVERNOR’S PROJECT
With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes—nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. The effects of the disease are excruciating—tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch. To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 million— and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family. Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, together, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. In doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families. YOU can save a baby’s life. YOU can save a mother’s life. YOU can ELIMINATE maternal and neonatal tetanus. Children: Their Future, Our Service Realizing the need and interest in supporting the MEP through hands on service, a new service initiative will be created on a two-year basis. All of the hands on service provided to children by Key Club International members can be directed to a single area of need to make a substantial impact. This service initiative directs and focuses the attention of KIWIN'S members to serve children in a specific hands-on approach.
What is Live2Learn? KIWIN'S members currently will focus their time and talents on Live2Learn, specifically focused on 5-9 year old youth, with the main goals of promoting education and building literary skills. This program not only creates endless possibilities to strengthen the common goal of service, but also allows each KIWIN'S member to develop into a well-rounded individual community leader and lifelong advocate for childrenâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s education.
32nd District of Key Club International What is Pediatric Trauma? Pediatric Trauma affects children from infancy to age nineteen. It is a result of motor vehicle accidents, physical abuse, drowning accidents, falls, and animal bites, making it the leading cause of death of children in the United States. Every year it results in sixteen million emergency visits and twenty thousand deaths. To prevent these accidents and injuries from happening, KIWIN'S has focused on fighting Pediatric Trauma through raising funds and by increasing general awareness through education. Established in 1992, Pediatric Trauma Prevention is a main focus of KIWIN'S in conjunction with California-Nevada-Hawaii Kiwanis.
PTP Facts: Unintentional injury kills more children every year than any other cause â&#x20AC;&#x201C; including disease, homicide and suicide! Unintentional injury is the #1 killer of children age 14 and under in the U.S. 90% of these unintentional injuries can be prevented.

What is the Children’s Miracle Network? The Children’s Miracle Network is a non-profit organization dedicated towards the well-being of all hospitalized children. The funds raised by the Children’s Miracle Network, directly benefits children in hospitals that are partners with the organization. Hospitals that are members of the Children’s Miracle Network are able to provide a better hospital experience for the children because of their ability to obtain the most up-to-date equipment, train staff who will be able to understand the unique needs of hospitalized children, conduct life-saving research, implement programs that deliver medical services to patients who are unlikely to access treatment independently, and provide health care for hospitalized children whose parent/s cannot afford it.
How does KIWIN’S get involved? Hospitals affiliated with the Network provide treatment, comfort, and hope to children within our local communities. KIWIN’S continues to assist the Children’s Miracle Network in the improvement of the lives of local children by fundraising and donating to help fund the Network’s various projects. Along with KIWIN’S, the Network takes part in the fight against Pediatric Trauma, which is the KIWIN’S Minor Emphasis.
