CareAware Patient Flow™ improves patient throughput by optimising bed management and automating job assignments for environmental services and patient transportation.
Optimising bed management CareAware Patient Flow The ability to transfer patients from one bed to another seems like a simple task; however, communication barriers between units, transport teams and environmental services (EVS) can make this a complex undertaking. Ultimately, these breaks in process can extend patient wait times and slow bed turnover. The need for one system to send updates electronically with corresponding information such as accommodation information and transport job assignment requests has proven to be something that clearly impacts patient throughput.
An Integrated Bed Management Tool CareAware Patient Flow provides integration between bed management, environmental services and transport functions without interfaces between the respective modules. This allows for the automation of the transfer process while eliminating the continuous phone calls for equipment, transport requests and cleaning services. Additionally, the solution runs on the CareAware® platform which guarantees seamless integration with CareAware iBus™ and Cerner Millennium® data. Millennium integration provides the ability to launch
PowerChart® with patient context directly from the Patient Flow solution.
Patient transfer scenario When a physician writes a transfer order for a patient through CPOE, the patient automatically appears on the bed management transfer queue. When the bed manager selects the patient on the queue, only beds that support the patient’s clinical attributes are shown, making bed selection easier. Once dragged and dropped into a location, an automated transport assignment will be received on the transporter’s mobile device, allowing the team member to accept or escalate to the next available transporter. Once the request is accepted, EVS can be notified to go clean the room. When EVS accepts and completes the housekeeping job, the status of the room can become available for the next patient. Together these automatic events provide a succinct operation to reduce wait times and improve coordination.
