Supporting Clinical Research Data Capture Cerner Discovere™ Research and health care information technology systems have historically been disconnected; supporting separate, and sometimes redundant, processes and workflows.
Through the Discovere solution, site researchers across an organisation have a consistent means for capturing and securing their research data.
Cerner builds solutions that integrate research and health care processes to increase security of research data, support collaborative research and streamline workflows.
Investigators, coordinators, data managers and study participants use secure role-based portals to access the system. Each user’s role determines the information and workflows available to that specific user. For example, coordinators have the ability to enroll participants and complete electronic case report forms (eCRFs); study participants have direct access to the patient survey forms; data managers can track data quality and review reports across sites.
Researchers use Discovere as a standalone research data capture system, but it can also be integrated into the workflow of the Cerner Millennium® Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Secure Collection of Research Data Research sites such as academic medical centres use Discovere, Cerner’s research data capture solution for investigator-initiated studies or research registries.
Additionally, Discovere is compliant with the industry requirements of 21CFR Part 11 and supports collaborative research. Using the secure web-based portals,

collaborating sites can all access a common study.
Integrated Data Capture Discovere uses integrated data capture (IDC) to electronically transcribe information from the EHR. Minimising manual transcription increases efficiency and improves the quality of the research data.

Integrated into the EHR workflow
As a thought leader in health care, Cerner has led the collaborative development of interoperability standards. Since IDC follows these standards, the platform can interact with multiple EHRs. In the IDC process, a clinician documents clinical procedures and assessments in the EHR. To capture the information for research, the user initiates IDC, and the EHR system sends the data relevant to a research protocol to the Discovere system. The data from the EHR pre-populate into the eCRF from Discovere, and the eCRF displays within the EHR interface. The user reviews, revises and verifies the accuracy of the data and then saves it. Discovere aggregates the data as research case records. The system supports manual entry of data into eCRFs as well.
Easy to Use The ability to create and re-use a library of eCRFs streamlines study build. End users adapt quickly to the intuitive user-friendly workflows provided by Discovere. Each user experiences a workflow optimised for their role and driven by role-based privileges. For example, Data Managers access a dashboard with statistics and links to data quality, reporting and export features. In contrast, the platform’s participant portal is highly streamlined with access to educational material, educational assessments, surveys and patient reported outcomes. Features can be enabled/disabled as part of study configuration. The intuitive data collection

Targeted Information Feeds Discovere provides targeted information feeds to help disseminate information in a timely manner. You can use the designated role-based portals to distribute education and training and update information in real time. Users access information relevant to their roles through role-specific dashboards. In addition, the system utilises an automated messaging framework to send emails and other communications automatically. These messages can be sent to any stakeholder, contain custom text and include a web link to a specific Discovere workflow. Common use cases for automated messages include visit reminders, safety alerts and to direct participants to a new survey. Discovere offers several reporting options. Built-in reporting can provide textual and/or graphical output. You can also export data for analysis and reporting in
