Cerner Instant Access™ enhances the end user experience with clinical applications while maintaining security compliance.

Enhancing the user access experience Cerner Instant Access The Cerner Instant Access solution optimizes the workflow experience for the clinician and reduces the time it takes to get to the point of productivity in his/her workflow while ensuring patient privacy and organizational security compliance are maintained. This suite of technologies enhances the user access experience by reducing the time spent accessing patient data — by

“Single sign-on (SSO) should move well beyond its original value proposition of reducing the password burden and streamlining user access. While these remain important core features, other capabilities surrounding shared workstation support, workflow, strong authentication, location awareness, context management and compliance make an enhanced version of SSO a vital component of the emerging realtime health care system.” – Barry Runyon, Vice President of Research, Gartner, Inc.

integrating seamlessly with the different user workflows within a health care organization. It also provides an easy mechanism to access patient data so users can lock/exit their sessions then reconnect to the same application from a different location without the need to re-authenticate. Once implemented, Cerner Instant Access enhances the end user experience with clinical applications while providing the necessary security today’s regulations required of all health care organizations.

Major features of instant access ■ Ability to move around the hospital, while still having access to the information, without having to navigate through the applications ■ Reduces access time to get to the point of productivity ■ Provides the necessary security for today’s regulations ■ Enables clinician sessions to follow them to provide a consistent user experience ■ Enables advanced authentication

Key Benefits ■ Enhances clinician satisfaction by reducing time to point of productivity ■ Solves the location awareness roaming limitations from a clinical workflow perspective, including connectivity to the right printers and right clinical data instantly ■ Integrates seamlessly with the user’s workflow ■ Reduces the time clinicians spend logging into multiple workstations ■ Encourages clinicians to document patient care at or near the point of care ■ Enhances patient safety through greater use of the electronic health record (EHR) ■ Reduces IT administration costs by creating a simple, scalable infrastructure

Fisher Titus – Using Instant Access “We were able to eliminate the need for user name and passwords. A clinician simply walks into the room, the proximity technology picks them up and then they can put their finger on the fingerprint reader and they have instant access to the patient chart.”

Solves user access challenges

Instant Access aims to solve common user access challenges such as: ■ Long access times to get to the point of productivity often leads clinicians to leave application/Citrix sessions open so other users can get to the data they need quickly, thereby creating a HIPAA violation. ■ By requiring multiple log-ins for different systems, clinicians are forced to remember multiple passwords (and possibly write down user names and passwords), resulting in pressure to reduce the complexity of the passwords and frequent password resets.

Cerner Instant Access provides an easy mechanism for clinicians to access patient data by allowing users to lock/exit their sessions then reconnect to the same application from a different location without the need to re-authenticate.

■ Workflows do not flex based on different clinical workflows — forcing all users to follow a single application workflow and creating more friction in the health care environment. ■ Newer regulations require Advanced Authentication such as the Ohio Board of Pharmacy regulations for medication ordering, dispensing and administering — creating the need for additional security mechanisms that slow down clinician access to data.
