WORK
The project area lies within the circle of the historic center of the city of Novara. The general idea is to integrate into a existing pedestrian/cycle path a new connection that is going to connect in a more secure and direct way, the University of Economics with the public buildings of the city center and the railway station . At the core of the project is the desire to render immediately recongnizable the university campus of Via E. Perrone, giving it a new image replacing the existing (image) of a building in ruins. It also aims to give a new identity, both, to the square inside the campus and also the Largo Alpini, both today sacrificed as parking. The project concept consists in a reinterpretation of the classic pitched roof , an element that delimits two distinct areas but with a permeability that allows a continous flow from one area to the other. The shape of the new building changes the structure of the closed and impervious barracks, providing it at the level of the square with three secondary entrances and commercial services for both the campus and the city, while the upper level space serves for the relocation of the departments, currently placed within unsuitable and impractical areas. The pavilions, including the one that serves as a “new” entrance, are characterized by a single continuous roof/covering that defines its limits. The main entrance was also expanded with the addition of a new volume on the largo Alpini d’Italia divided into: circulation spaces , utility rooms , stairwells and a large space dedicated to temporary exhibitions that is characterized by a triple height. This exibition space is also accesseble to the general public and can be used independently for exhibitions and events for the city.

WORK
The task of the project involved the construction of a villa on a natural slope , below the “Olive trees hill, in the city of Rome, for a client who is passionate about art . On the available area within the site there were the necessity for different functions: the owner’s villa, more spaces for the exhibition of works of art , an area reserved for the guests, a fitness area and spa and the necessary parking spaces. Within the available area it was decided to divide the functions into distinct elements , placing the area destined for the collection of contemporary art inside the suspended volume above the Roman ruins that were present into the site, and inserting a spiral ramp, in the shape of a truncated inverted cone, within the central volume containing the exhibition, leading to the top of the hill by connecting stairs on the pre-existing walls . With regard to the living space , the rooms dedicated to the guests were placed below the existing arches, at the rear perimeter of the area, while the villa itself is part of a circular perimeter that, from street level , emerges from the ground into a two story volume above ground. The new volume of cylindrical shape houses at street level the parking and continuous further up to become the fitness and spa areas, passing through the living area and finally culminating at the top as the sleeping area. All spaces of the dwelling above ground communicates with their surroundings by means of terraces, and are built around a central void which, through the succession of two overlapping domes reinterpreted with modern technology , recalls the classic themes of Roman architecture.

WORK
The project, after an analysis of the whole city of Verona, concentrated on the Roman Theatre , located near the famous “Stone Bridge” , the only remaining bridge from Roman times. The project is an answer to the need to give a new facade to the theater, no longer recognizable given the numerous signs of aging and the continuous changes that have erased its original appearance. The concept of the projects was taken form from the drawings of an historical figure, a French student traveling in Italy , Jean Baptiste Guillaume. By overlapping the sections he drew with those of the current sections the project tries to imagine the volumes that the theater actually occupied, and that we set out to reproduce according to a new interpretation. From here came the desire to give greater visibility to the theater from the city and somehow redefine its “outline” through a new wall built on the traces of one of the “post-scenae”, which, starting from the current entrance on the end right , crosses the stage building on the opposite side and ends by recreating an “end” to the theater with a high curved wall , positioned where the original radial walls that supported the cavea ended. In this space are now left on the ground, among the ruins, a large amount of artifacts from the collection of Andrea Monga, found during the excavations, which have been given a better placement within the new volume that has an architectural language that is distinctly modern and is adjacent to the final part of the “wall” that becomes the new entrance, creating an unique entrance for the theater and for the museum, with new features that may give an added value to the site, including a school of performing arts that is related to the theater and further two new levels dedicated to restoration on the upper levels . Finally, with the intervention, thanks to the new vertical connections inside the new volume, the project also solves the current problems of accessibility and visibility to the site for people with mobility difficulties, that are accentuated by the current height difference between the road and the ticket-office, and the inability to get to the elevator at level 9.15 m.

With the exception of the small kitchen attached to one side, this annexe of a private residence is composed of a rectangular space of 28 square meters. The spatial organization follows a tripartite along the horizontal axis that unfolds, in succession, a living area, a sleeping area, and a bathroom. The latter is separated from the rest by a masonry wall, but to distinguish the living from the sleeping area a great fabric curtain is used. With this particular type of partition, used only if necessary, one has avoided the presence of a permanent wall which would reduce even further the living area.
The module of the tripartite division that defines the project in its totality is also found in the configuration of the bathroom. The environment is composed of three separate rooms that as a sequence/sequentially include the washbasin, the toilet and shower. Access is possible from two sides encouraging, as well as a sensory continuum, also a perpetual and uninterrupted motion.

The organizational scheme of this project is a division along the central horizontal axis, creating two almost identical areas, private and public. One area is occupied by two mirrored bedrooms separated by a partition wall that ensures their mutual independence, the other area is reserved entirely for a large living area. The desire to utilize as efficiently as possible the available space for the realization of the living area led to a radical re-thinking of the existing space. This meant that what was previously an entrance area, ballooned to more than double its previous size, to contain the program of the new living area of the apartment.
The delineation between private and public is marked by two cabinets/closets made from translucent glass. The transparency of the material affords the permeability of natural light that penetrates through the windows of the private sleeping area unto the living area. A novel modulation of the ambient light is obtained through the clothes hanging in the closets, acting as a brise-soleil that filters light, creating color and shadow effects, questioning the dialectic between the private sphere and the public realm.
