about 2

Graduated from University of Greenwich, London with a BA (Hons) in Landscape Architecture, I am somebody who’s work tends to be often very challenging but inspirational. Design interventions of different scales are key to my projects, combining what already exists on site to other alterations. Focus is always necessary. As a landscape designer, one of the most fascinating abilities of landscape is the change through time and people response to its metamorphosis. Patience is key element. When considering the future, a degree of suistainability is essential to stimulate people’s attention and appreciation

SITE MASTERPLAN

HANDRAWN AXONOMETRIC

This project explores the design of a new waterfront with the aim to construct a terraced waterfront to bring people together and engage them with water, key principle of the site Suthmere, Thamesmead. Public realm installations as well as sustainable systems will be provided. This project will make Southmere a place with better quality of life in all aspects: economic, social and cultural, creating a source of balance.

New waterfront for Southmere: engagement with water is a key principle for the community and the terraced waterfront development will enhance the quality of life of Southmere inhabitants. Thermal pools will be a new attraction during the winter and will be turned into ice skating rings for specific occasions. During summer they will be public pools. Great views across the lake to Southmere Free Horses water feature, all water sport activities practiced in the lake and to the new Eco Park that aims to protect the ecosystem which is developed although providing recreation and allow the public in

SECTIONAL PERSPECTIVE 6

CESARE CARDIA CREATIVES

Terraced waterfront take turns between pathways, promenades and strips of planting which are also suistainable systems: water runoff management, biofiltration systems to help the community self sustain. The garden strips will be characterised by native species to help facilitate natural filtration and aesthetics. Narrow pathways through this planting allowing people to walk across and appreciate the plants closer.

A key feature is the elevated ramp bridge that allow for better views of both sides North and South of the site, but it also allows stunning sights towards the lake and to the themed gardens. The ramp will have seating and lighting to allow use all the time. Multifunctional the ramp will be, with greenery around its supports, solar panel outer edges and rainwater collection system.

Introducing the new bright red semi-permeable cycle path running all the way along waterfront edge charatcherised by tree promenade. From here connection is made through pathways into the themed gardens that lead to a water cascade, and beyond to the street market and the archwall which are the main attraction at the south entrance of the site.

CONCEPT SKETCHES

Symmetrcal

Existing concrete raised platform adjusted to be a public space with view points, access to adjacent buildings and downstairs to terraced waterfront and shops. Series of trees to be planted on edge to north to give a sense of nature and filtrate some of the views to the lake. Temporary art exhibitions & installations will be possible in this space attracting more people to the new waterfront. Circular glass windows will allow sunlight through down beneath the platform to shops

Soft ramps

On the ground level people are free to walk or sit while looking to lake, meanwhile a new bright red semi-permeable cycling path will be constructed. Over 2m wide this path will also allow pedestrians to walk along and across. The red cycling ribbon runs all the way along waterfront adjacent to pedestrian pathway. LONDON ATLANTIS Is London the new Atlantis? Floodable cities Cesare Stefano Cardia, BA (hons) Landscape Architecture, Academic Year 2014-2015

Dissertation book cover

Abstract. As climate change contributes to increase extreme weather events, the range of impacts and risks possible becomes infinite. Climate change will increase heavy rainstorms frequency, floodings will bring water contamination, material spills, devastation of ecosystems and biodiversity, agricultural problems and death. This research explores the reality of floods in relation to climate change using examples and case studies to investigate how cities react to certain weather conditions and how flood control systems work. It looks in particular at the situation of the UK and London analysing and identifying new solutions in order to define future possibilities. 20
