“I have instructed Cesar for multiple classes. I have watched him grow from an eager student into a capable professional. Cesar’s strengths include sketching, modeling and visual thinking. He is a fast learner and works incredibly hard. Cesar has a determination that drives him as an individual and a leader. During senior studio, Cesar was selected as one of five project team managers for the collaborative ID/SAE racecar project. Along with putting his own “blood sweat and tears” into the design and build of the Formula race car body, he coordinated, motivated and challenged a group of his fellow design students. Cesar is easy going and likable. He would make a great addition to any design team.”

Industrial Design Intern “Cesar was our intern for one great year. He’s not only a skilled designer, but a wonderful person to be around. What came to surface right away, was his ability to contribute inspired ideas to our projects. Cesar’s concepts would often play a significant part in the design of the final product, including some that are now on store shelves. He is also an ace at turning napkin sketch ideas into physical mock-ups, working out the kinks along the way. With Cesar, the title ‘intern’ was quickly unfitting, as he was always right there alongside the rest of the team working on client facing projects. In addition to his drive for design, he brought a positive presence to the studio, and is missed by all. He’s also personally responsible for the studio’s 3 day a week surfing habit!!”

In developing the brand language we tried to achieve a balance of rugged and clean design. We use the brand color (PMS 320) and applied it to the brand and device name. We developed a cross pattern to go on the touch point of the device as well as being a grip area since this is a product that is to be carried and tossed around in hard surfaces.
To add to the tough aesthetic we gave all the devices a trapezoidal shape somewhere in the form contributing to ergonomic grips and its tough yet clean aesthetic.

The Profometer is running along a concrete surface detecting where rebar is located. Connected to the Display Platform it collects the information and can tell you depth and thickness of the rebar.
Primarily Male Specialist that are trained in using the equipment. They are familiar with construction area from up on a sky scraper to deep below the earths surface.
The products will have to endure the elements, thus requiring them to be tough and water proof. The plastic enclosure has a gaskets and sealed through sonic welding.
In designing the Proceq Profometer, I looked at the engineering restriction, taking note that it is a sensor that needs to be close to the surface as possible as well as square shaped for when it goes up against corners. I began by sketching different ideas on how to interact with it and designing a simple single shot cart for it to go in. Followed my making multiple mock-ups to test ergonomics.

EVOLUTION & CREATION FOR THE NEW PORTAL. LOOKED AT OUT TARGET MARKET AND DESIGNED A FUN NEW PORTAL WITH BOLD NEW FEATURES THEN THE PREVIOUS TWO. WE DEVELOPED MANY SKETCH CONCEPTS, EVOLVING FROM THE OLD SHAPE TO THE NEW FRESH RING PORTAL YOU SEE TODAY. LOOKING AT THE STYLE WITH IN THE GAME AND PLOT LINE OF THE NEW GAME TO INSPIRE THE AESTHETICS. PLACED OUR SELVES IN THE MIND OF KID AND THOUGHT WHAT WE BELIEVED WOULD BE COOL TO SEE IN THE TRAP TEAM PORTAL.

The Io 4K improves work flow between camera and computer. It allows communication between camera and computer and pull in video right into the editing program. Prior to this files would have to travel between devices and take time for files to be converted in order to make them working files.
In ideation phase we explored different housing options, ultimately pushing for an extruded aluminum housing leading to the final product. Foam mock ups were made to aid in developing of the form that was to be extruded. This aided in getting a good sense of the form and its minor surface changes.

The Brand Low Cost
Fiskars is a leading brand that provides functional, user-friendly and lasting design solutions for all their products. Fiskars products respond to genuine inspiration and drive to get the job done well in the most effortless and intuitive way.

Good Design User-friendly Ergonomic Intuitive
The Color Fiskars Orange is an important part of their identity. Orange handled scissors are a registered trademark of Fiskars Corporation. The color choice came by chance when the prototype for the first scissors handle were being made from left over resin in the machine of an orange juicer. So the first prototypes were made in that color instead of black.
The traditional charcoal grills were chosen for the design due to the traditional manual use of the barbecue from starting the fire, using and cleaning the grill. Seen in all Fiskars products the tend to produce traditional well designed analog tools.
Along with orange they have two shades of grey that they use. A dark grey is used and if a third color is used it is a contrasting light grey. Metal is either colored black or it is brushed.

DEVELOPMENT SKETCHES Multiple concepts were rendered out to compare the designs in order to pick the final direction of the barbecue and the family of tools that go with it.
EXPLORATION Ideation took place to generate ideas for the design and function for the barbecue and its tools. In doing so the ideas that Fiskars designs followed were kept in mind through out the whole design process.
Good Design User-friendly Ergonomics Intuitive
PREVIOUS CONCEPTS
The Chimney Charcoal Starter offers an easy to use and easy way to light charcoals. Its perforations offer good airflow necessary for charcoals to catch.
The design also offers a strong handle as well as an additional handle that extends for good leverage in order to dump the charcoals properly.
The tongs has lock clip to stay close when not in use.
DEVELOPMENT Essential tools were developed after the Fiskars brand. The tools and the barbecue share the brand language. As well as ergonomics was a part of the development since it plays such a major roll in Fiskars product development.
FORK SPATULA TONGS CHARCOAL STARTER
All the tools have a place at the end of the handle in order to hang them from the barbecue grill.
All metal ends of the tools are riveted in to the handles and offer a nice transition into the rest of the design. The Fiskars logo is well represented in all the tools as well as the barbecue.
FUNCTION -easy to remove ash pan. -ergonomic handles that make it easy to move and remove lid. -lid can easily clip onto side of barbecue. -tools are able to store on side or grill.

The scenario shows common problems that people encounter while using a fire extinguisher. Through out my process I will address these problem with a new designed product. An exploration of research, ideation, design thinking are explored in order to produce a better, more ergonomic fire extinguisher.

Ergonomics- the Safe Pass offers an easy to hold and grip handle with safety and activation trigger. When wall mounted the handle is out and ready to be grabbed during emergencies. Straight Forward- The process of use is broken down into three simple icons that are easy to understand in order to use the fire extinguisher.
Aesthetics- This fire extinguisher looks visually better then traditional fire extinguishers, but still easily recognizable by anyone as a fire safety tool.
All regulation labels are placed on flat surface, thus when it is mounted then are not an eye sore.

Urban climbing is more of a thrill event than a sport, but it definitely requires a high level of fitness and a high tolerance for risk.

The word “buildering” is a combination of the word “building” with the climbing term “bouldering”.
Some people go urban climbing to explore, and reach a specific destination to see what it has to offer. For one an amazing view of the surroundings.
The average urban climber are people that are already experienced rock climbers or boulderers that live in urban areas. It takes time to get to the outdoors, so they climb local buildings, bridges, artwork, anything that offers new challenges and greater risk.
LIGHT Light is needed for climbing at night in order to properly see what you are grabbing.
CHALK/CHALK BAG Chalk and chalk bag are needed during any climbing activity to reduce moister in hands and reduce the chance or slipping.

SHOES Shoes are a must for Urban Climbing. Whether climbers are used, approach or tennis shoes. They are needed to properly climb a building.
CRASHPAD Crashpad are good to use to protect yourself. It is used incase you happen to slip and fall. It is a cushion protecting the climber from the hard floor.
These is the essential gear needed to go buildering in order to have a successful urban climb.
With Adidas having a line of outdoor apparel including approach shoes, and its recent acquisition of 5.10, a well know climbing show brand the line of Adidas Underground can be a reality. The Underground line are product made for Urban Climbing that fit the need of the climber in the environment that has never been considered.
The design calls for a more urban styled shoe. The designs seen on the left of the chart have a more aggressive outdoor look. The urban climbing shoe needs to fit into its surrounding.

I was brought into a close nit group of designer at Dashdot Studios in Southern California during my last year of Design School to intern. While I was there I was thrown right into a design project from start to finish and got to see my idea go though to the production product.
+ In researching we were trying to see how to differentiate ourselves from current existing vanity mirrors.
The tough part was developing a clean, simple, adjustment system for the vanity mirror that separates it self from the current existing products.
The ideation phase was trying to develop as many different ways to articulate in order to adjust height.
I made many mock ups to find the simples easiest way to develop the height adjustment device.
+
Targus Chill Mat The Targus Chill Mat offer a new aesthetic to a traditional laptop cooling system. We made it a combination of hard goods and soft goods to reach more of a home product aesthetic rather then a techie look.
In researching we were trying to develop a aesthetically pleasing chill mat with easy to use articulation. As well as picking the proper colors to fit the market needs.
The tough part was developing a clean, simple, low cost way to adjust the height and manage cords.
The ideation phase was trying to develop the different ways it articulates, stores its cord as well as developing its form language as a family.
I made many mock ups in ideation phase to articulate new ideas. Refined one were also made to present to the client. SLA prototypes were made to look like final product for market testing.
+
+ In researching we were trying to determine what cord organizers are out there in order to develop a product different then anything out.
I was trying to develop a different and easy way to organize cords. While many ideas were developed my cord puck idea was taken to production.
The ideation phase was trying to develop as many different ways to organize cords and store them in a clean, easy to use device.
I made many mock ups in ideation phase to develop new ideas. Refined one were also made to present to the client.
