If you believe you need mental health services and you have Medi-Cal coverage, you should call your MediCal plan to request a mental health provider for individual therapy and/or medication management. In Los Angeles, Medi-Cal is provided by two different insurance plans: LA Care and Health Net. Please follow the chart and call your specific Medi-Cal plan for a referral:

County Mental Health authorizes and can provide treatment including “specialty mental health services” for all Medi-Cal recipients. If you believe you need mental health services, you should call the Local Mental Health Plan’s 24-hour “Access Center” which can screen and evaluate your request for mental health services and can refer you to a mental health provider.

Serves children in the Santa Clarita Valley up to age 18, and families. They have a therapeutic preschool. They offer individual, family and group therapy, school-based counseling, parenting classes, substance abuse prevention and treatment (adolescent and parent groups), crisis intervention for non-clients in SCV, teen parenting/pregnant teen programs, infant/toddler programs, family preservation, TBS, Day Treatment (in collaboration with Hart School District Junior High and High School) They accept Medi-Cal.

This is a County Department of Mental Health facility that is responsible for crisis intervention for any youth in the San Fernando Valley and Santa Clarita Valley that is experiencing an acute psychiatric emergency and needs to be assessed for possible hospitalization. They provide telephone triage and phone crisis intervention. To refer a child, contact the on-duty staff to review the case history and establish a crisis plan.

Walk-in clinic for adult psychiatric crisis (adults with mental health needs that do not have mental health treatment.) They accept Medi-Cal and uninsured. Expect to wait up to five hours. It is a Spanish style building with its own parking lot, separated from the main hospital.

This mental health center offers outpatient treatments to chronically mentally ill adults, case management, community outreach, medication support and psychological testing. Adults experiencing a psychiatric emergency can walk-in without an appointment. They accept Medi-Cal. Serves the areas of: Santa Clarita, Newhall, Valencia, Saugus, Val Verde, Canyon Country, Castaic, Agua Dulce, Sulpher Springs, and Bouquet Canyon.

County Department of Mental Health can be contacted to discuss a psychiatric emergency for an adult or child that requires an assessment in the community. When an adult or child needs an emergency psychiatric assessment but is unable to go to a crisis center, a psychiatric emergency team can be sent into the community if the individual is a threat to themselves or to others, or gravely disabled. These teams are also available when the local mental health centers are closed.

A LIGHT OF HOPE is a nonprofit corporation that facilitates support services and activities for youth, young adults and their family members. They provide support for youth and young adults 14-26 years of age struggling with substance abuse and/or self-destructive actions or behaviors. They emphasize a 12-Step approach to family recovery, as well as Alternative Peer Group (APG) community of caring and welcoming experience for young people and their families. Free support groups for youth and parents (held separately) each Thursday at 7 p.m.

Free weekly support groups for parents and adolescents. Offers support to families dealing with low self-esteem, depression, drug and alcohol abuse, running away from home, pregnancy, and other family-related issues. Also provides individual and family therapy on a sliding scale, low-cost drug testing, crisis intervention, immediate inpatient and outpatient referrals, and 24-hour helpline.

Non-profit organization. The Youth Project serves students on 13 local junior high and high school campuses in the Santa Clarita Valley. Services are available to all youth, specialized programming for atrisk youth, low-income and uninsured youth, poor academic performers, bilingual (English as a Second Language) students and youth who are socially marginalized. Services: counseling, community outreach, workshops, and resources in the community. They have case managers who will meet with kids anywhere in the community and give them referrals.

This Unit is an acute psychiatric care facility for adults male o female in psychological crisis. They treat: major depression, bipolar disorder, schizoaffective disorder and schizophrenia. Admission to the BHU can be on a voluntary or involuntary basis. They welcome inquiries from individuals who are concerned about the welfare of family members or others who are receiving or may require treatment for a psychological disorder.

Psychological counseling is available at no cost to currently enrolled COC students for up to six visits per semester. Students meet with counselors at the Student Health & Wellness Center on the Valencia campus, Student Center 122. Common reasons to see a counselor include: relationship problems, loss of a loved one, shyness/loneliness, concerns about the future, anxiety interfering with academic success, anger/mood instability, exposure to traumatic events, depression, drug or alcohol issues, or as one part of an assessment for medical symptoms.
