Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson Shares His Testimony on “I Am Second” By Lauren Leigh Noske (News@GospelHerald.com)
T
hree generations of Robertsons recently shared their testimonies of God's grace and forgiveness through Jesus Christ on I Am Second. (Celebrity testimonies online at www.iamsecond.com) Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the family, told of his battle with "sex, drugs, and rock n' roll" and how the Lord redeemed him. "We all go six-feet-deep in the ground ... we all end up in a casket," Phil began. Phil Robertson met Miss Kay when she was 14, and married her two years later. The couple's first son, Alan, was born when Phil was 18 and on a football scholarship at Louisiana Tech. "We were so poor," remembers Kay - "So in love, but so poor." Phil had never drank alcohol before, but started to party with the football team once he got to college. "It was scary to me," Kay said she had never been exposed to drugs. They soon had their second son, Jase, and Phil's drinking habits worsened. Kay suspected that he was also doing other drugs and committing adultery. Phil became very angry, and was rarely with the family. One day, a man came into Phil's beer joint with a Bible and tried to tell him about Jesus. Phil ran him off, and later got in a bar fight that made him in trouble with the law. He came home that evening and told Miss Kay that he was going to go hide in

the woods and probably wouldn't "surface" for the next two to three months. "There I was, a bar maid - who doesn't drink - and had three little boys," said Kay. She had been fighting for her marriage for a long time, but it just wasn't working. When Phil turned up, the drinking continued - "He became more and more mean, and mean-spirited," said Kay. Phil eventually told Miss Kay and their three children to leave their home."I would say the low point is when I ran Miss Kay and the kids off - you're all alone, no hope, miserable," Phil said. He began to seriously contemplate if there was a way out of all of his troubles, and Miss Kay suggested that he talk with the man who had once approached him about the Lord. "I didn't even know what the Gospel of Jesus was," said Phil - "I was blown away when I heard that Jesus died for me, was buried, and raised from the dead something so ... simple, but profound that happened back there almost two thousand years ago."
Kay came home that day to a note which said that Phil was at the church. She and their three boys went and saw Phil standing in the baptistry. Kay rejoiced - "I heard Phil say, 'I want to make Jesus the Lord of my life. I want to follow Him from this day forward.'" Her three boys were so excited that tears streamed down their faces. "The boys started hollering

Phil told her that he was turning away from his sinful past, and it was in that moment that their family felt complete. As a young Christian, Phil was put to the test when he caught men stealing fish from him down on the river. In the past, Phil says, he would have confronted them with his shotgun - "I was fishing for a living - it's my livelihood. I'm working my tail off," he explains. Phil had been reading Romans 12, however, which says "Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them ... Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, 'Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.' To the contrary, 'if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink ... Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good" (English Standard Version, from Romans 12:1421). Phil was puzzled, but felt convicted "They're stealing my fish here, Lord, and You want me to do what?" Though he felt that it made no "earthly sense," Phil Phil Robertson met Miss Kaydetermined to do
good to the men. He caught them stealing from him red-handed, just as they were about to pull his fishing net on-board their boat. "Here's the good news - I'm going to raise the net, and whatever is in there, I'm going to give them to you," Phil told them. The men were incredulous, and from that day forward, they quit stealing his fish. "I took that to mean God was right all along," Phil says. Phil fashioned a duck call named the Duck Commander soon after he became a Christian, and made $8,000 in sales his first year. The family-operated company eventually grew to a multimillion dollar business - something that Phil does not chalk up to chance. "I am giving the credit to God Almighty and Heaven for the duck call sales, the fish that were in the nets way back, [and] for my life," he says. Phil's son Jep and grandson Reed proceeded to share their testimonies as well, rejoicing in all that the Lord has done for their family. "We all go six feet deep in the ground. The grave is a problem. So is sin," concludes Phil - "Jesus came down in flesh and solved both of them. So for me, my household - I just think that we would all be better off if we loved God and loved each other. At the end of the day you will be happy, happy, happy."

Could Obama Be Impeached for a Bergdahl Repeat? by CBN News
President Barack Obama may try to shut down Guantanamo in the face of repeated congressional opposition.
Lawmakers angry over the Taliban prisoner swap for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdhal are threatening impeachment if the president releases any more prisoners without congressional approval.

Christians are Bad Tippers and Other Lies By Dwight Widaman/Metro Voice
I
recently heard a story on Christian radio that Christians are, you guessed it, bad tippers. It’s a convenient story that even the Christian media can’t resist sharing. Problem is, it’s not true. Tipping is just another subject where perceptions about Christians don’t match with statistics. And when our own media spreads the lies, we just can’t win.
In a February story Metro Voice reported a trip out to eat turned into a nightmare for the Rev. Alois Bell of the World Deliverance Ministries Church in Granite City, Ill. Bell and a group of friends went to Applebee’s. Following company policy, their server, Chelsea Welch, added an automatic tip to the bills. Bell was not pleased not being given the opportunity to reward the server herself and was, instead, told what to tip. “I give God 10%,” Bell wrote on the bill. “Why do you get 18?” Welch posted the check on Facebook, and it went viral. She eventually was fired, while Bell apologized (saying she’d left a cash tip) after her note made headlines.
“My fellow servers called them the ‘Holy Rollers,’” she wrote. “Knowing there would be little, if any, tip left at the end of their meal, the servers saw the Christians’ robust attempts at ‘friendliness’ instead as pushy and arrogant. The memories still pain me now.” Who is to say that was not the case for Swallow and her coworkers? Metro Voice reported on a study from Michael Lynn of Cornell University and Benjamin Katz of HCD Research indicates that all

With Christians currently serving as THE most popular group of people to hate in American culture, regardless of the facts, there is nothing Christians can do to tread the tsunami of bad press over tipping. In Roman times the public believed Christians were drinking the blood of babies when Christians took communion. It may not be that bad now, but it still shows the public is just as gullible 2,000 years later.

What TD Jakes Hates Most About Megachurch Culture by Jennifer LeClaire Megachurches have plenty of critics— including the pastor of one of the most popular megachurches in America. Indeed, Bishop T.D. Jakes, senior pastor of the Potter’s House in Dallas, says he has one issue with megachurch culture. Oddly enough, it has to do with how pastors fit into the mix. the coverage of the topic in secular as well as Christian media outlets simply isn’t true. The research showed that, overall, Christians are pretty good tippers–in fact they are better tippers than the average American diner. Their survey of 1,068 Americans found that the average Christian tipped 17 percent for good service. Only about one in eight Christians left a smaller tip for good service. The national average for a tip left is just under 15 percent.
Turns out Welsh isn’t the only server to have issues with church folks. Nor was Bell the only diner to be called out for bad tipping when she actually did leave a tip.
Just like the population in general, there are some Christians who may be bad tippers. It is an uphill climb to persuade the media and public that those folks don’t represent our community as a whole.
Karen Swallow Prior, an English professor at Liberty University, worked her way through college as a waitress. She alleged Christians were notorious for being bad tippers and wrote about it in a piece for Christianity Today’s website.
A few bad tippers give all the other Christians a bad name. Most “bad tipper” episodes have, in fact, been found to be false with waiters and waitresses falsifying receipts in order to gain media

ity into one topic. Homosexuality affects somewhere between 3 to 8% of most people but the church has spent its energies and voice in a disproportionate amount of precious opportunity to spread the gospel of love and not condemnation.
However, the entire subject should be weighed according to what is in the heart of the person. Non believers are not under the law and we should not expect them to behave any differently until they are converted to Christ. At the point of salvation the heart begins its pilgrimage to heaven through an arduous journey of sanctification through life experiences. For many of us we have to experience the consequence of aversion therapy for our sins. Sometimes we struggle with things all the way to the grave. Certainly homosexuality is among them. I know that gluttony is a sin but the church has all but avoided the subject. Maybe because in America it is almost a right of passage to eat too much. But very few of our parishioners are gay, so...
It seems we have to do better at the core message. Preachers need to be bold and call all sin for what it is... an affront to God’s holiness. Then they need to remind others and themselves that there is no condemnation for those who are found in Christ.
It troubles me that there are militant gays that want to force their decadence on me, my family, faith, ministry and business. It also troubles me that Christians often lump an entire spectrum of human sexual-
In short, we should not confuse the Gospel message with what is expected after a person’s conversion. I hear from most Christians that they “hate the sin but love the sinner”. I see great evidence of the former but a scant example of the latter. We need to hold fast to explain that the wages of sin is death and then give them a big hug afterwards. That is not enabling them... that is loving them. I spent most of my adult ministry proclaiming that if sinners did not repent God would grind them into dust until they submitted to His perfect will. Now my message is that God will love you unto obedience. The cross is proof positive of that. We don’t have to soft soap messages

Despite the fact that much is made today of “being gay” or having a gay identity, the reality is that your romantic attractions and sexual desires do not define who you are as a person. More importantly, if you have surrendered your life to the Lord and are living in obedience to Him, your primary identity is found in being a son or daughter of God. Many believers struggle when they put gay before Christian in terms of their identity rather than putting Christian (or child of God) first.
2. It is not a sin to be same-sex attracted. While it is true that there really are former homosexuals (meaning, people who went from homosexual to heterosexual through divine intervention or counseling or discipleship—I hear from them on a regular basis, and I know some of them personally), it is also true that there are believers who have renounced homosexual practice but who are still same-sex attracted, and they are living holy, blessed lives. As a former lesbian once pointed out, God never said, “Be thou heterosexual because I the Lord thy God am heterosexual.” He said, “Be thou holy, because I the Lord thy God am holy.” In helping those struggling with unwanted
same-sex attractions, we need to remind them that holiness, not heterosexuality, is the first and primary goal, encouraging them to renounce sinful practices and relationships and to reject sinful thoughts while recognizing that temptation can still be a real possibility. 3. Having same-sex attractions does not mean your moral character is bad. Just as it is misguided to define yourself based on your attractions and desires, it is also misguided to define your essential moral character based on your attractions and desires. Put another way, people with same-sex attractions might be some of the nicest, kindest, most morally upright people you know. We are often imprecise in our terminology, saying that “Homosexuality is sinful” (as opposed to the correct statement, namely that “Homosexual practice is sinful”), because of which it is easy for us to jump to the wrong conclusion that anyone with same-sex attractions is especially sinful.
The fact is that your moral character is not measured by whether your attractions are samesex or opposite-sex. Rather, your moral character is measured by how you live your life before God and your fellow human beings, which includes how you deal with your attractions and desires. Do you cultivate and act on things that are wrong in God’s sight, or do you say yes to Him and no to those things? Do you genuinely seek to love your neighbor as yourself, produce the fruit of the Spirit and live in purity? That is what measures your morality.
is created in the image of God, regardless of who they are, and every human being is fallen and in need of redemption. The whole human race is broken in God’s sight, the whole human race is in a state of rebellion against God (outside of His gracious intervention to save us and transform us), and so the whole human race suffers from fatal, damnable flaws. As fallen human beings, we are proud, greedy, lustful, selfish, dishonest, covetous, duplicitous—just to name a few of our carnal characteristics. That’s why we need a Savior to forgive us and to transform us. At the same time, as God’s creation and the expression of His image on the earth, we have many noble qualities, but they are flawed because of the fall. Same-sex attractions, while clearly contrary to God’s design for the human race and while certainly not a gift from Him, are just another aspect of our fallen, broken state, one of a thousand different aspects of our weak, human condition, putting all of us in the same boat in one way or another. We are all created in His image, we are fallen and broken (in part through our biology and in part through our upbringing and choices—which is not to say people are “born gay”), and we are all loved by Him and offered new life in Jesus.
June 2014 5. Jesus shed the same blood for every human being, whether same-sex or opposite-sex attracted. There is no discrimination or favoritism at the foot of the cross. The blood of Jesus cleanses us from our sins if we put our trust in Him, regardless of what sins we have committed. In the same way, His call to all of us is the same: “If anyone wants to come with Me, he must deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life because of Me will save it” (Luke 9:23-24, HCSB). As I recently told a same-sex attracted person, “Put your entire emphasis on getting into right relationship with the Lord, knowing His love and walking in obedience to Him, rather than wondering if you’ll have to be celibate for the rest of your life. What Do You Do When You Disagree With Everyone in Your Life— Including God? by Ronnie Phillips Jr.
"Can we agree to disagree?" How many times have you heard that? How many times have you said it yourself? It’s a pretty popular saying, especially in the political and socially diverse environment in which we find ourselves today, but it’s a sad thing when all you have in common with another person is the fact that you disagree. Amos 3:3 says, “Can two walk together, except they are agreed?” (NKJV). That’s kind of the million-dollar question—a question for which I had a resounding answer: Nope. Growing up in the church, I had more than enough to disagree with. I’m not talking about theology, worship style, legalism or anything related to your admission into the pearly gates. My disagreements were far more simple and personal. As the son of the preacher, my disagreements were with unrealistic expectations placed upon me by those who thought they knew me by virtue of my name. My jumping-off point was with how “good church folk” treated my family (in particular my father) and the abuse we suffered at the hands of such people. At the ripe old age of 23, I was mad at God, through with church, and living a life that in no way reflected my upbringing as a preacher’s kid. As a result of my poor decisions and the root of bitterness that had me firmly entangled, my relationships were strained, my
www.OzarksChristianVoice.com marriage was a mess, and I was trying to deal with the pain, regret and humiliation of life by hiding inside a bottle. I was working my way up the corporate ladder in my secular job, but beyond that, everything else was crashing around me. Yet in spite of the disagreements, fights, feuds and other assorted turmoil I had put my dad through, I still had to admit that he was my best friend. While I had done my best to push him away, my father, the son of an alcoholic-father-turned-churchdeacon, knew what it was to be cast aside, knew the power and price of redemption, and knew that the best way to win over the object of your disagreement is with love. Now, the problem with any disagreement is that the vast majority of the time, someone is in the right and someone is in the wrong. It pretty much went without saying that based on my lifestyle, I was wrong—although my dad would also be quick to admit he was not without fault. Still, I hung on to my bitterness and anger like a lifeline and refused to give an inch. I refused, that is, until I found myself on the bathroom floor—a total wreck— crying out and yelling at God. After consuming an inordinate amount of alcohol and a screaming match with my wife, I had collapsed on the floor of our bathroom late one night. Totally freaked out, she knew of nothing else to do than to call my father. I challenged her to do so, thinking he wouldn’t come. Ashamed and confused, I had no use for myself anymore. I figured he didn’t either. In the middle of one of the darkest nights of my life, there was a knock at my door. It was my dad.

However, the momentary happiness that a self-serving life brings pales in comparison to the life lived in agreement with the call of God. Pleasures lose their luster. Riches lose their value. Prestige lasts until the next shiny new employee comes along. The only life that has any lasting, eternal value is the one lived for Christ. Now, years later, I’ve left the parties with my friends for the peace and contentment of my family. I’ve given up the life of egotistical and selfish disagreement for agreement and harmony with my fathers (earthly and heavenly). I traded in the confinement of self-imposed loneliness and unworthiness for the wide-open spaces of promise and hope that only a life in agreement with God’s call can bring. And I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Is there happiness in disagreement? Sure. Even the Bible alludes to that in passages like Hebrews 11:25: “He [Moses] chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin" (NIV).

But all that has gone out the window now that their biblical orthodoxy has come to the light. One of David Benham’s remarks, perhaps nothing new to the ears of most conservative Christians but incendiary for the left, was as follows:

CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin claimed recently that President Barack Obama “clearly broke the law” by failing to provide notice to Congress at least 30 days before trading five Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay in exchange for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. Swatting down the Obama administration’s justification, Toobin argued that a presidential signing statement doesn’t mean the commanderin-chief no longer has to comply with the law. “I think he clearly broke the law. The law says 30-days’ notice. He didn’t give 30-days’ notice,” Toobin said. “It is true he issued a signing statement, but signing statements are not law. Signing statements are the president’s opinion on what the law should be.” “The law is on the books, and he didn’t follow it,” he continued. “You realize, of course, you’re accusing the president of the United States of breaking the law,” Blitzer responded. Even though it’s unlikely Congress will take any action, Toobin said it still “matters whether people follow the law or not.”

Often “Free” programs that you can download have other less desirable programs built into the file and install at the same time. Sometimes you can carefully read the prompts that appear while you are installing your free program and “opt out” of installing the undesirable third party applications, and other times they install automatically when you run the free programs installer. Either way it’s a good practice to research the program you are installing by searching the name of the program on Google and see if there is anyone having issues with malicious software being installed as a result (usually you will see a complaint in the first few search results if the program is suspect). One of the most common malicious programs I see installed in this way is a program called “Search Protect” (or the many other similar names it goes by). Woman Who Videos Her Abortion Calls Process of Killing Her Unborn Baby “Birth-Like” by Dave Andrusko/LifeNews.com

he title of the piece on the Cosmopolitan magazine site is “Why I filmed my abortion.” The temptation to ridicule what Emily Letts writes is almost overpowering until you realize she either believes what she writes (at some level), is morally tone-deaf, and/or is incapable of grasping how sick is the message that she is sending. Briefly, Letts, who had an abortion at the same abortion clinic where she is now a “counselor,” entered and won the Abortion Care Network’s “Stigma Busting” video competition. Her video went viral, sparking a lot of controversy even among those who consider themselves “pro-choice.” She took the opportunity this week to “explain why she decided to share her experience so publicly.” Letts begins by telling her Cosmopolitan magazine audience that not only had she been an aspiring actress who didn’t like her body and who’d been “fairly depressed most of the time,” she had not been part of the Sisterhood (“I felt competitive toward women”). Then, the epiphany. “I had a friend who was a birth doula, and she fascinated me with her stories about giving birth and growing life. It led me to start looking at my body in a whole different way. I became what’s called a ‘birth junkie.’ I trained as a doula and watched every documentary I could get my hands on. During my training, I learned there are three kinds of doulas: birth doulas, adoption doulas, and abortion doulas. A light went off in my head.”

But for Letts, a “light” goes off in her head: six of one, half-dozen of another. By “helping” women have abortions Letts could extinguish her need to be competitive with other women at the same time that she “fell into this perfect world that fulfills me in so many different ways.”

She tells us that the same woman who is preaching birth control to women who come to the abortion clinic chooses not to follow her own instructions (“which is crazy, I know. I’m a sex educator, and I love talking about birth control”), and, guess what? Letts becomes pregnant.
But ask yourself this. Can anyone who is not already 300% behind abortion for any reason or no reason not feel nauseous reading the following description of the abortion?
Having no “long-term partners,” it’s obvious to Letts that she will have an abortion. (Besides, “I knew I wasn’t ready to take care of a child.”) But what does that have to do with Letts deciding to videotape her abortion— literally extinguishing your child’s life–and put it on the web? Two things, it appeared. Another woman had previously filmed herself going through a “medical abortion” (typically RU-486). She got a lot of heat for this, but Letts was inspired because the woman responded to the criticism (“I loved that”). So now inspired (in a manner of speaking) instead of writing a blog, Letts finds out there is no “video of an actual surgical procedure in the clinic that focused on the woman’s experience.” If you read with even a little care, you quickly see that Letts’ inspiration is to convince herself that she is being brave (opponents will threaten all sorts of ugly things, she tells us). Moreover, if that weren’t enough, she could prove “that there is such a thing as a positive abortion story. It’s my story.” With those dual justifications, she announces, “Bring it.” She tells us she subsequently gets lots of angry commentary, which, of course, is exactly what Letts wanted

I was angry through most of the Cosmo post. By the end, however, I could only think this woman desperately needs help. "It's also worth noting that what many people around the world experience as 'capitalism' isn't recognizable to Americans. For many in developing or newly industrialized countries, what passes as capitalism is an exploitative racket for the benefit of the few powerful and wealthy." Langone, it should be noted, has led the push to raise $180 million for New York City's St. Patrick's Cathedral, where Dolan presides.

Dallas resident Tom Pryor came to Pool’s Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital with an emergency need to have an aortic valve replaced. “His risk of dying was probably 90 percent if he had no surgery,” Pool said of Pryor’s condition. “Even if you do a surgery, the risk of dying is about 30 percent. So it’s a highly lethal condition.”
“To some degree it can be like a teacher and a student,” Jeyarajah stated. “And you have to make sure that you’re not overstepping your boundaries there or being inappropriate in that relationship.” “The critics would say, ‘Well, there’s a power differential. You’re this powerful doctor. This poor patient is there helpless and they feel like if they say no, you might not do your best during the surgery or something like that,” Pool also pointed out. “I

So I’m the one doing the operation, but He’s the one guiding me.” He said he likes to pray with his patients. “It shows them that I don’t think I’m sitting in the place of God; it shows them that I see that I’m just an instrument in His hand,” he said. When folks are facing medical emergencies, some people would say that’s exactly the wrong time to pressure them about spiritual matters. But most patients say it actually takes much of the pressure off to bring God and prayer into their situations, and they appreciate it.
“I have had one patient who turned me down,” he recalled. “I was there about to start the surgery and I said, ‘You mind if I say a prayer with you?’ He said, ‘I prefer not.’ I will mention that his wife caught me right after that and said, ‘If it had been me, I’d have let you pray for me!’” Still, both Pool and Jeyarajah’s spiritual intercessions get almost 100 percent support from their patients. “Oftentimes they’ll say ‘That prayer meant the world to us,’” Pool stated. That’s how Russell Truett, from Rockwall, Texas, felt after he had a heart attack, but stalled and suffered about three weeks before finally going to the hospital. Pool did a double bypass on Truett’s heart, accompanied by plenty of prayers before and after.
But that’s not necessarily true anymore. A number of doctors these days are willing to personally help you call on the Great Physician.
“God is the Great Physician. He is the One who controls life and death,” Pool said, explaining his desire to keep his patients and himself in contact with God.

A Lethal Condition
It used to be when you ended up in a hospital, you’d expect the doctors to just deal with your physical condition. If you wanted someone to pay attention to your spiritual needs, you’d have to find a chaplain or pastor.
It would be against Dallas heart surgeon Mark Pool’s medical oath if he didn’t study every patient’s case before operating. But he feels it would go against his Christian calling if he didn’t at least offer to pray with all his patients.

“It was a huge relief,” Truett said about Pool’s frequent desire to pray with him.
Pryor had just finished calls with his three children, sobered by the fact they might never hear from him again, when Pool offered to pray. “I was slightly taken aback for just a second,” Pryor said. “And, then, realizing my condition and the things that were going on, I thought it was probably a pretty good idea.”
think it’s important to be sensitive to the fact that there are patients, number one, who may not be Christian,” Jeyarajah added. “And, number two, there are patients who may not believe in God at all.” Still, Jeyarajah said he’s witnessed God do so much at his hospital, he can’t help but believe and pray.
“Being a Christian myself, whenever he asked that, it just took a world of pressure off my chest. And not only that he believed in it, but that he would offer to do it,” he added.
Beyond the Hospital Pool doesn’t restrict his prayers just to medical matters. He found out from Truett that he was divorced from his wife about a year-and-a-half before.
‘Every Day is Going to Church’ Pryor acknowledged the immediate impact of Pool’s prayer. He said he felt much more calm and relaxed. He believes God did an even bigger thing by answering Pool’s prayer asking God that Pryor would live through the surgery. “I am here. I beat the odds,” he said.
Overstepping Boundaries? Another praying doctor, gastrointestinal surgeon Rohan Jeyarajah at the Methodist Dallas Medical Center, said he understands a doctor asking to pray with patients could make some of them uncomfortable. He said some might even think they dare not refuse this person who has so much power over their life and health.
“I see the hand of God every day. I always say that with the work that I do, it’s almost like every day is going to church,” Jeyarajah testified. Pool has also seen miracles. He recalled a patient whose heart just suddenly stopped in the intensive care unit. “I opened his chest up and I was squeezing his heart,” Pool remembered. “Nothing was happening and I prayed, ‘Lord, save this man.’ We kept working and within a few minutes, his heart just started to beat. And there was nothing I had done differently to it. It just started up. And so his life was saved,” he said. But not everyone wants contact with this spiritual world Pool knows is real.
“I was still in love with my wife. And I had pursued her for that year and a half, but she wouldn’t have anything to do with me; quit talking to me,” Truett said. Pool prayed for reconciliation. Then Truett’s wife called him in his hospital room. “She asked if I felt like company and I said yeah. She came up that night and stayed the rest of the night in the hospital with me and has not left my side since,” Truett recalled. Another Rockwall resident, 78-year-old Jimmy Mayfield, needed an aortic valve replaced. “It makes me feel better to know that the guy who’s going to make the decisions when he gets in there has the Lord with

him and has that peace,” Mayfield said from his hospital gurney. In Mayfield’s hospital room, Pool took his hand. “Father, I ask for strength for his heart, that you would protect it,” the surgeon prayed.l “We know about Your love because You sent Your Son. We know about Your power because You raised Him from the dead. Father, I ask that You would work in a special way with Your love and power in Mr. Mayfield’s life.”
Prayers Without Ceasing Jeyarajah knows some people declare they wouldn’t want these kinds of prayers said over them. But he said they are probably people who haven’t faced a killer disease yet. “At the moment that you find out that you’ve got some horrible disease—cancer, whatever—I don’t care what you believe in, if you don’t actively believe in God, well, you believe in God at that moment,” the surgeon said, having had years of dealing with patients facing life-or-death situations. Pool’s patient Truett encourages other doctors to consider following the example set by Pool and Jeyarajah to pray with their patients. “I think they would be surprised how many of their patients would appreciate it if they would do it,” Truett said. “First Thessalonians says ‘Pray without ceasing.’ And that definitely means pray before you go and operate,” Pool mentioned. These are doctors humble enough to say they’re not the Great Physician, but smart enough to know it’s only wisdom making sure they bring Him into their surgeries. Jeyarajah remembered one surgery that was going poorly.

But he said God showed him He has him just where He wants him. “In what I’m doing for my patients and in ministering to them, that’s my ministry. And I see now that the highest form of ministry is not necessarily full-time Christian ministry at a church. It’s just the ministry that God has for you,” Pool said. “And so that’s what I’ve found: God’s given me a ministry even as a heart surgeon.”
Meet This Girl Who’s Standing Strong After Boko Haram Killed Her Family by Gary Lane/CBN News Deborah Wakai Peters, a young Nigerian Christian whose family has suffered persecution at the hands of Boko Haram. Last April, 276 school girls were kidnapped as they slept at their Nigerian boarding school. The kidnapping has raised renewed awareness of the notorious Boko Haram terrorist group.
Peter's mother, a former Muslim, was away from home at the time. Shortly after, American Children of 9/11 Victims invited Peters to attend a camp in the United States. But while she survived a terror attack, she could not make it through the bureaucracy of the U.S. State Department: Her visa requests were denied twice. "The reason she was denied a visa was they said to her--and you can't make this stuff up--they said to her, you don't have family ties," attorney Emmanuel Ogebe, with Jubilee Campaign USA, explained. So, they essentially re-traumatized a girl whose family was exterminated by terrorists.
Ogebe said U.S. officials are mistaken if they think Boko Haram fighters are rebels. "They are anarchists, they are jihadists. And when you frame it in the right context, when you have a right problem statement, then you can have an appropriate response to that," he said. When Peters talked to CBN News last October, she made it clear why Boko Haram targeted her family. She mentioned the group's adherence to the Islamic holy book. "In the Koran, they say that any Muslim who turns to Christianity, the punishment is death," she explained. That meant her mother would have been targeted if she been at home. "They were targeting her, even now they are looking for her," she said. "If they see her, they will kill her." Peters explained that the terrorists killed her father because he was a pastor.

"They will know more and more of what God said and they will like understand what it means to stand strong," she said. This from a 15-year-old Nigerian student, standing strong in victory over Islamic terrorism and praying that her Christian friends will soon be reunited with their families.

"What the uber-liberal newspaper doesn’t tell its readers is that over the past 20 years, violent crime in America has dropped a whopping 49 percent," he said. "That has saved the country far more than $80 billion a year, and the human suffering caused by crime has been vastly diminished, as well."

Eric Foley, CEO of Seoul USA, says that North Korean underground Christians are among the least likely group to defect since they feel their existence in North Korea has divine purpose. "Our reckoning that North Korea is the worst place to be a Christian says more about our own understanding of Christianity than it does about North Korea," says Foley. 7 Qualities Women Bring to a Leadership Team written by Justin Lathrop, female pastor
T
here has been a long-standing debate about women in leadership in ministry. This is not new, although the way the debate has found its way online makes it feel like it is new. But really, this conversation has gone on for decades and, if you ask me, we have made very little progress. Both sides use Scripture to defend their positions. Both are fully convinced they are right. Both assume God is on their side. And very few have ever “won” someone to the opposing side.
To be honest, I’m tired of arguing about it. In fact, I don’t think I want to engage in the debate any longer. What I want to do, instead, is celebrate the gifts women everywhere are already bringing to the table. None of these qualities are exclusive to women, nor do all women possess these traits. But in my many years working in and around churches and with pastors, I’ve encountered many women who have brought these invaluable traits to the table, and our teams would have been worse off without them. What gifts could you be missing by not engaging the women in your community?
1. Empathy. I’ve worked with women who have the ability to empathize with situations, people and circumstances in a

way that seemed foreign to me and to many of my colleagues. In fact, there were times when it seemed these women had a sixth sense for what was happening beneath the surface of a conflict, problem or the tension in a meeting.

This is so vital to the church environment because, no matter what we’re working on, there are always multiple layers involved. We are not only trying to accomplish a tangible objective (like putting together a Sunday service) but also need to be in tune to more abstract objectives—like listening to spiritual direction and trying to serve a community of people with unique needs and wants.
3. Gentleness. Many of the women I’ve worked with have had the incredible ability to communicate a message in such a way that truth is not sacrificed, but neither was gentleness. Both in public communication and interpersonal communication, I’ve seen hearts softened to a difficult message because of the gift a woman has to communicate in a palatable way. 4. Passion. Just because the women I’ve worked with in ministry have been

team who are gifted with cultivating and developing relationships, our church will suffer. Of course, relational savvy isn’t limited to women, but I’ve watched countless women in ministry be able to navigate difficult relational problems in the workplace, and I wouldn’t want to miss out on this quality.
6. Optimism. Women tend to be more optimistic than men. They tend to look at the glass as half-full and seek to see opportunities, even in the worst circumstances. This is not just my
opinion. It’s proven to be true. Check out this Forbes article.
7. Integrity. If you click through to the Forbes article, you’ll notice women also tend to display a higher degree of integrity and honor than men. I have to say, in my experience, this is true. Although I’ve worked with all kinds of men and women who have incredible integrity, I’m grateful for the way the women on our teams are open and receptive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit and tend to point us back to Jesus. piritual life in American Christianity is primarily a church activity. It takes place in a church building and is most often led by paid professionals. Most of the activities require little more of the individual than to show up.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
As you study the Bible, you find that the tabernacle and Temple were not places for weekly public worship. Until the Babylonian captivity, the synagogue probably did not exist. For most of Jewish history, and continuing even today, the primary focus of Jewish worship is the home.

Biblically, most of the major feasts and celebrations were not corporate gatherings, but family gatherings, presided over by the father, who functioned as the elder and priest of his family. As you read the book of Exodus, you find that Passover is designed to be celebrated in the home around the dinner table. In Sukkot, or Tabernacles, the parents build a temporary shelter (sukkah) in the back yard and the whole family "camps out" with God for a week.
Page 25 The most important worship celebration is the weekly welcoming of the Sabbath, which again takes place in the home. The Sabbath meal was a joyful time centered on devotion to the Lord. As they ate, the members of the family would talk about the things of God, recite and discuss Scripture, pray, and sing praises to the Lord. Judaism survived persecution in every generation because the real structure and function of religious life was home centered. Although so many synagogues were destroyed over the course of centuries, Judaism survived because every Jew was expected to be knowledgeable about the faith of his ancest o r s . Therefore Judaism could always survive in the home. The home was a little sanctuary to be set aside for the worship of God, the study of His word, and a place of hospitality. Good Verses Best Ultimately, our gifts, talents and abilities are sacrificed on the altar of laziness and entitlement. The possibilities that we were created for become improbabilities. The magnificent things that we could have achieved become mangled and lost in the abject futility of living on our laurels. We lose who we are, we lose what we could do, and in essence we lose our lives. At best, whatever our best could have been is lost. Tragically, in time we gradually lose a sense that we could actually do great things, and we forfeit the transformational reality that our best is both achievable and far beyond anything we could imagine with the best of our imaginations. looping reel of "No Other Name" and "Jesus" invaded Times Square for a full hour late last month, thanks to a technical miracle with an advertising agency. (Hillsong Collected) Rarely has the beating heart of the Big Apple been a place where Jesus' name fills the atmosphere. But on April 24, that changed for an hour as the jumbotron signs of New York City's Times Square looped the words "No Other Name" and "Jesus." Who was responsible? Hillsong, the massively popular international worship-driven megachurch
The signage takeover wasn't just a shot in the dark for outreach; it also served as the basis for the group's upcoming album art. Amazingly, Jay Argaet, director of art and communications for Hillsong, reported that the campaign came in right at budget for the album artwork, costing only a few thousand dollars. The original plan had Hillsong purchasing a few minutes of ad time after midnight. But when God intervened via technical glitch, the advertising agency made it up to them by giving them 21 billboards, at a fraction of the regular price, for an hour - free - at any time of day. Argaet detailed the reactions of dazed onlookers on his blog:

7 Secrets to Keeping Your Marriage Hot by J. Lee Grady

re you and your spouse still in love with each other after all these years? (iStock photo) When I married my wife, Deborah, 30 years ago I had a tiny salary and no money in the bank, so our honeymoon was a budget affair: four nights in Miami Beach, four nights in Orlando, and then back to work. Deborah didn't complain at all, but I always wanted to make it up to her. So this week we are enjoying an anniversary trip to Hawaii—and thinking a lot about God's faithfulness. How do two people stay in love for 30 years? I don't consider myself a marriage expert, but I can tell you what has worked for us—and what I always advise the younger people I mentor:
1. Pray together. Marriage is more than an emotional and sexual union. It's a deep spiritual bond. I believe the best way a couple can nurture that connection is to pray together regularly. Set aside time each week to pray for your children, extended family members, financial challenges and life decisions. Pray even more often when you are going through difficult spiritual battles. Prayer will knit your hearts like nothing else.
2. Avoid resentment. All couples fight from time to time, but if you don't learn how to kiss and make up, your marriage will unravel. Marriage is like a school of forgiveness. Paul's rule to the Ephesians, "Do not let the sun go down on your anger" (Eph. 4:26, NASB), is best applied by husbands and wives. When your spouse hurts you, talk about it, forgive and let it go. Don't keep a list of offenses. If you bury your resentments without resolving them, they will explode like land mines later.
3. Treat each other as equals.
www.OzarksChristianVoice.com Many Christian men believe they are the "head" of the marriage, and they assume this means they can boss their wives around and demand submission. This can lead to physical or verbal abuse, and it is one of the primary reasons so many Christian marriages end in divorce. The Bible actually tells husbands to treat their wives as "fellow heir[s] of the grace of life" (1 Pet. 3:7). If you view your wife as inferior, or if you order her around like she's under your control, you are guilty of abuse. A husband's "headship," as defined by Ephesians 5:23, requires him to be humble, tender and sacrificial— not macho or bossy.

weddings, and we take a lot of expensive photos so we can remember the moment. We say our vows in front of an altar, and those vows are solemnly confirmed by a pastor holding a Bible. But many couples still don't take their vows seriously. Marriage is a promise made in the very presence of God! If we view that vow casually, or if we don't keep God at the center of our relationship, a marriage can go from hot to cold in a matter of months. My wife keeps some of our framed wedding photos on the wall of our family room. Even though the 1980s hairstyles and clothes are horribly out of date, we display those pictures to remind ourselves that we made a covenant with God and with each other on April 28, 1984. We invited Him to make us one, and we know that the grace He gave us to stay married for 30 years can last a lifetime. He can do the same for you.

A Brief History of Motorcycle Clubs by Rev. Jason "Padre" Cottom jasoncottom@gmail.com
T
he best way to tell the history of the motorcycle club's (MC's) is to start with Hollister, CA, 1947 when the term "1%" was born and embraced by a large portion of the Outlaw Motorcycle Clubs (OMC's). In 1947 a group of rowdy bikers descended upon Hollister, CA's annual motorcycle rally. What followed was called a "riot" by local police. To the bikers it was just another good time of heavy drinking, hell raising, and riding a bike through a bar. The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) stated that 99% of motorcycle riders are decent people. By implication the 1% were the undesirables who were giving all motorcyclists a bad reputation. A new subculture was realized in American society that was born from post WWII. A GI could purchase a surplus Harley from the Army for as little as $200. Many of those same GI's had problems reintegrating back into American society. They missed the bonds of brotherhood that were forged on the battlefields of Europe and Asia, living on the edge of death, and were attracted to the free spirit of MC's. Over the decades 1%'ers have become involved in trafficking drugs and firearms, prostitution rings, stolen property, and murder for hire. And as clubs became more territorial, violence broke out between rival OMC's. Ministers to OMC's must walk a fine line between law enforcement, 1%'ers, rival clubs, and their ministry. The minister in this, or a similar ministry, must gird themselves up with godly practices and godly people. For simplicity, I've broken these down into
three basic areas: intense accountability, the intense study of Scripture, and intense prayer. I use "intense" to describe the higher caliber of these three practices that every Christian needs to already have in their own personal lives. The first, intense accountability, is not subjecting yourself to a board of inquisition. What it is is a high level of openness and trust with two or three mature Christians. A minister needs to meet with them weekly to discuss not just the past week’s ministry, but also the spiritual welfare of the minister. Second, is intense study of Scripture. It 's not only reading your Bible daily. It's studying your Bible every day, using extra-biblical sources, language and word studies, etc. This is delving deep into the Word of God on the level expected in seminary students. The third, and equally important, is intense prayer. Unlike the first two, it 's harder to quantify what makes up intense prayer. Intense prayer is ultimately time with our Father listening. A five minute daily prayer is going to short yourself. Doing God's work in such an intense environment requires intense measures to protect one's spiritual health and the health of their ministry. Although I did not mention family, I will note that if your family is being neglected because of your ministry, then you need to review your spiritual wellbeing.

Dear Dave, My wife and I are debt-free except for our house, and she would like for us to go ahead and start a family. I make good money, but I’d still like to wait a little longer and add some extra to our emergency fund before taking that step. Who do you think is right in this situation? Joel Dear Joel, Assuming, of course, you’re talking about a reasonable number of children, the old adage is true: if you wait until you think you can afford them, you’ll never have them. You guys have been responsible and are in pretty good financial shape right now. So my thought is have babies if you want babies. Even if your wife told you that she’s pregnant tomorrow you’d still have nine months to add on to your emergency fund. Your financial situation tells me you’re both responsible people. You’ll be a good provider, and it sound like you’d both make great parents. And the fact is babies are not that expensive. Having kids won’t break your back like lots of people say. You’ve got extra expenses like diapers and baby stuff the first few years, but it’s not going to drive you to the poor house. Now, if you go to the extreme and have 16 kids, that many baby birds could become quite a financial problem. Dear Heather, For years I told people never to do prenuptial agreements. I always said if you love your money more than you love your spouse, then you’re too immature and selfish to be married. However, I’ve changed my tune on this subject a little bit recently. When one or two wealthy people get married, the problems that can arise usually have nothing to do with those two people. The problem is that it can invite a lot of crazy into your lives from the outside. Whether it’s a parent, cousin or child, sometimes people start feeling a sense of entitlement when wealth is suddenly thrust into the picture. You both sound like mature, functional people with good values. In most cases, that’s a pretty good indication that crazy isn’t in the immediate vicinity. Still, there’s a lot on the line. So while I would advise a prenup, you might keep an open mind to revisions somewhere down the road. Make it pretty solid and protective for the first five or 10 years. But then, after you guys have built a life together, you’ll hopefully reach a point where you’ll feel safe looking at it as all ours. So, the only reason I’d ever suggest a prenup is when two parties are bringing really unequal amounts to the table. Yours is an extreme situation, Heather, so I’d give it some serious thought. Let him know you want to do this to protect the relationship, so that there’s never any hint that the money is a problem or will create problems. As you start talking about your finances, be sure to cover these areas: Separate or joint checking/savings accounts — Some couples create joint checking and savings accounts, others keep everything separate and still others find a middle ground — joint accounts along with smaller, separate accounts. There’s really no one “right” way for everyone, but whichever method you choose, make sure you’re both aware of where your money is, how it can be accessed, and by whom. Debts — Both you and your spouse may be bringing in debts, such as student loans or credit cards, to the marriage. You don’t necessarily have to do everything possible to get rid of these debts immediately, but you should set up reasonable payment plans that will allow you to lower your overall debt load so you can free up money to invest for the future. Spending and saving — Newlyweds are often surprised to discover how different they are from each other in the area of spending versus saving. You don’t have to try to radically change each other, but you both need to be aware that your spending and saving decisions now have greater consequences than when you were both single. To avoid problems of this type, you will need to communicate clearly with each other Goals — It’s important for married couples to clearly establish their financial goals. Do you want to purchase a house? If so, when? If you’re going to have children, will you want to help them pay for college? When do each of you want to retire? And what sort of retirement lifestyle do you have in mind? By answering these and other key questions, you’ll be formulating a set of goals. And from there, you can devise a strategy for attaining these goals. Investment styles — Both you and your spouse will unquestionably need to invest if you are going to achieve your goals, such as a comfortable retirement. However, each of you may have a different investment style — for example, one of you might be an aggressive investor, willing to take more risk for the possibility of greater returns, while the other is more conservative, ready to accept lower returns in exchange for greater preservation of principal. To pursue your strategy for reaching your objectives, each of you may have to compromise somewhat on your “investment personality.” To achieve this balance, you may need to consult with a financial advisor. Washington state parent is speaking out after she was left stunned by a school awards ceremony that she said featured profanity, inappropriate jokes , vulgar language and a box of sex toys. The parent, who sent an email to KOMO-TV, but wished to remain anonymous, said she was left in tears by what she witnessed when she accompanied her 17-year-old daughter to the event put on by Bellingham High School drama teacher Teri Grimes.

News Too Depressing? 3 Ways to Overcome Fear of Evil in the World - and Do Good by Rob Schwarzwalder
H
ave you ever felt powerless when reading the headlines? You aren't the only one - but God's plan isn't for His children to be wrought with fear, but to serve. A Sudanese court sentences a woman to death for believing in Christ. Hundreds of schoolgirls are kidnapped by Islamic terrorists in Nigeria. A Turkish mine explosion that kills nearly 300 men. Russia seizes the Crimea and drools over Ukraine. China's one-child policy purrs along its assembly line of death. An estimated 900 million people living with chronic hunger. At home, here is an abbreviated list of what we have become used to dealing with: Abortion, pornography, pedophilia, human trafficking, drug and alcohol addictions, sexually-transmitted diseases, fatherlessness, divorce, promiscuity, cohabitation, the redefinition of marriage, homelessness, failing schools, hungry children, endemic joblessness and underemployment, "transgendered" military personnel, and various infectious diseases, psychological illnesses, and psychiatric conditions. (If I left off your favorite bane, sorry; of the listing of pathologies there is no end). No one serious about following Jesus can help but be burdened by these vivid witnesses to the torrent of evils swirling around us, at home and abroad. The needs are many and great. Sin seeks to rival God for infinitude. Here are three observations about how Christians can respond to the crushing weight of human wrongdoing:
Recognize that evil is intractable. We will never do away with it. This
www.OzarksChristianVoice.com should not be a spur to complacency but rather should safeguard us from the lie that evil can be decimated permanently and comprehensively. False expectations, once unmet, create ennui and disillusionment, which lead to withdrawal and the concession of hardwon ground to the Enemy and his minions, demonic and human. The mature Christian will recognize that his efforts to advance the love and holiness of Christ in a fallen world will never be sufficient or final. Instead, he will rejoice that within the context of his personal and financial limitations, he can make a substantial difference in a couple of areas and a relative handful of lives for years at a time. Ambitious but realistic expectations in the field of personal Christian ministry and philanthropy are critical. Recognize that opportunities for doing good are innumerable. The Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability and the ACCORD Network both list hundreds, even thousands of Christian ministries addressing everything from disaster relief to religious persecution. Our churches provide myriad opportunities for ministry, from neighborhood evangelism and urban outreach to clothing orchards and senior care.

and for specific tasks. Ask God to lead you into one or two ministries into which you can pour your time and energy. He will do this through circumstance, your access to various ministries, an awareness of what you do well (grounded in a clear assessment of your abilities), the counsel of Godly men and women (most especially your spouse and your church leadership), and the burdens He lays on your heart. Most supremely, He will guide you as you study His Word and develop ministry priorities based on it. For some, this might mean turning to full-time vocational ministry. For others, it might mean taking the divorced mom and her children down the street out for ice cream when you take your own. Pain for the needs of the world must not become so spiritually and emotionally tyrannical that it cripples us, on the one hand, nor should we let it produce callous indifference as a defense mechanism on the other.
Christianity Today's Amy Julia Becker recently wrote a perceptive piece entitled, "We Can't Care About Everyone All the Time." Her conclusion in the article is so good I conclude with it here: "As a Christian, as a member of the body of Christ, the hands and feet of the work God is doing in the world, I must care about someone somewhere. But if I try to care about everyone everywhere I lose sight of the particular people to whom God has called me. If I try to care about everyone everywhere I lose sight of God's overarching care for us all. God is God and I am not. For that reason I will continue to let horrific news about all sorts of violence and terror in our world roll past me. And I will continue to weep and advocate and give money and spend time and energy caring for a few of the vulnerable ones among us, beginning with my children, extending to my community, and then branching out into the world in very limited and particular ways." ou may have noticed that The Ozarks Christian Voice has undergone many changes in the past few months. These changes are necessary in order to ensure the survival of this publication. The manner in which people get their news coupled with a bad economy led us to steer away from breaking news features and instead offer opinions and research on topics that have a longer shelf life. Upgrading to a magazine format allows distribution to places that were unavailable as a newspaper tabloid. Charging a modest cover price per issue takes away the burden and quite frankly unattainable ad driven support. The name change reflects our expanding distribution area. We have subscribers in 20 different states and it continues to grow as a Kingdom unifier. We pray the contents will help us all grow in our journey of faith and wisdom. We are now in our 10th year of printing the only Christian magazine of its kind in the nation that is fun and inspirational uniquely representing the whole Body of Christ. We have served the Christian community to the best of our ability, trying to be fair and balanced to more than one position on the

You can imagine the difficult task we have to try to educate and spiritually mature the believer without creating a great offense in the process. If this publication took a left-wing, flaming liberal position or a stinking, right-wing, conservative position (extreme opinions either way), folks on both sides of that spectrum would get pretty generous to support their own ignorant bias. Having a Christian magazine be ink! moderate to conservative usually generates moderate to conservative financial support because it doesn’t get us all fired up. However, we believe a moderate approach to the majority of hot topics is the most prudent and, dare we say, Christian
approach?
The Body of Christ is extremely diverse because it mysteriously serves God’s purpose to be that way. The OCV is a Kingdom paper. We know a $36.00 yearly subscription in this economy is a huge amount. Maybe a friend can split it with you and you both can share it. If that is not possible, could you please try to get the OCV at your favorite vendor? They are mentioned at the bottom of the pages. That’s only $15.00 a year. It would be a shame for this magazine to disappear only to have people saying that had they known our needs, they would have helped out in some way.
