Our focus is on, and to, the invisible church which Jesus Christ said, “The gates of hell would not prevail against.” We announce the current events of the visible church, and we believe the Body of Christ is made up of people who have found salvation by faith in Jesus Christ evidenced by the good works they are doing and have done. We encourage our readers to be open minded to differing opinions on nonessential matters. We report the good aas well as the bad within our church family as a testament for the necessity of a Savior. Our observations are made from a fairly moderate to conservative viewpoint.

Peace for Anxious Days hen my daughters were single-digit ages—two, five, and seven—I wowed them with a miracle. I told them the story of Moses and the manna and invited them to follow me on a wilderness trek through the house.
W
“Who knows,” I suggested, “manna may fall from the sky again.” We dressed in sheets and sandals and did our best Bedouin hike through the bedrooms. The girls, on my instruction, complained to me, Moses, of hunger and demanded I take them back to Egypt, or at least to the kitchen. When we entered the den, I urged them to play up their parts: groan, moan, and beg for food.
I told my daughters: “Look up.” When my daughters did, manna fell! Well, not manna, but vanilla wafers dropped from the ceiling and landed on the carpet. Sara squealed with delight and started munching. Jenna and Andrea were old enough to request an explanation. My answer was simple. I knew the itinerary. I knew we would enter this room. Vanilla wafers fit safely on the topside of the ceiling-fan blades. I had placed them there in advance. When they groaned and moaned, I turned on the switch. God’s answer to the Hebrews was similar. Did he know their itinerary? Did he know they would grow hungry? Yes and yes. And at the right time, he tilted the manna basket toward earth.
“Look up,” I urged. “Manna might fall any minute.” Tw o - y e a r - o l d Sara obliged with no questions, but Jenna and Andrea had their doubts. How can manna fall from a ceiling? Just like the Hebrews. “How can God feed us in the wilderness?” Just like you? You look at tomorrow’s demands, next week’s bills, next month’s silent calendar. Your future looks as barren as the Sinai Desert. “How can I face my future?” God tells you what
And what about you? God know what you need and where you’ll be. Any chance he has some vanilla wafers on tomorrow’s ceiling fans? Trust him. “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes” (Matthew 6:33-34). Listen to UpWords with Max Lucado at:

'Left Behind' Movie Remake to Star Nicolas Cage
million range and are aiming to shoot the first movie in the trilogy in spring 2013 in Baton Rouge, La., The Hollywood Reporter reported.
by Charismamag.com Actor Nicolas Cage will reportedly star in what producers hope will be a new, improved movie version of the best-selling, end-times thriller Left Behind. The project is being developed by Cloud Ten Pictures, which released the first film adaptation of the book in 2000, following it with two other installments from the successful series of novels by Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins—which have sold more than 64 million copies since the first title came out in 1995. Cloud Ten founder and CEO Paul Lalonde, who was one of the producers of the original, independently made movie that starred Kirk Cameron, is producing the action thriller that will be "in the mold of a classic disaster film" with Michael Walker, The Hollywood Reporter reported. Jay David Williams of Family Screen Partners is executive producing. Producers are working with a budget in the $15
Veteran stunt coordinator Vic Armstrong is in negotiations to direct the remake. Armstrong was Harrison Ford's stunt double in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Christopher Reeve's double in Superman and Superman II before turning to designing deathdefying feats and action sequences. Cage's acting credits include National Treasure, The Rock and Leaving Las Vegas, which won him a Best Actor Academy Award. The second screen version of Left Behind: The Movie follows the resolution of a long-running dispute between Cloud Ten and LaHaye, who was unhappy with the filmmakers' releases. The film rights reverted to LaHaye and Jenkins in 2008 as part of a settlement, but were returned to Cloud Ten as of October 2010, the company said.

When Texas decided to allocate the funds to health providers instead of Planned Parenthood, the Obama administration announced it would strip the state of federal funds. Texas responded by funding the health program itself.
arlier this year, Texas lawmakers decided to send state tax dollars for low-income women's health services to providers that do not offer abortions. As one attorney tells OneNewsNow, Planned Parenthood continues to lose.
In contrast to this ruling, a federal appeals court this week declared Indiana's similar defunding bill unconstitutional. The attorney general is being encouraged to appeal to the Supreme Court.
"We're currently renegotiating new health insurance, which is something we do on an annual basis here at Criswell, and this new mandate is going to require us to violate our religious beliefs, because it would force us to fund something that's contrary to the biblical values we stand for, particularly the sanctity of innocent human life," he details.
Jonathan Saenz of Texas Values explains that Planned Parenthood filed suit and lost time and again. He notes this "tremendous ruling from the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals -- a federal court decision denying another attempt by Planned Parenthood to keep their hands in the taxpayers' pocket. The court said that Texas can cut off tax dollars to Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers."
Criswell has never violated its biblically based principles, and Johnson asserts that "it's something we're not going to do."
Saenz believes the Fifth Circuit's ruling aligns with the public perception in Texas -- that life matters.

Calling All Christians By Stephanie Holloway y heart is breaking for America. We are a country of self-sufficient, complacent, prideful people, who attend churches filled with self-sufficient, complacent, prideful Christians. Can we even take on the name of Christian, if we are those things? We are a country made of people, who even while undergoing a recession, are richer than most people in the world. I don’t “feel” rich as far as wealth goes because my family lives pay check to pay check, and we don’t have enough to make ends meet, but we have a house, and vehicles, albeit old and in need of much work. Though, we are still wealthy compared to millions of people on the planet. So, if I am rich, I must share my resources as a true Christian. I can use my vehicles to give people needed transportation. I can use my home to invite someone in to dine with my family, to host a bible study, or for fellowship purposes with my church family. There are many ways that I, being poor financially, can respond to the needs of my community and can reach out and be a good steward with the belongings that I’ve been blessed with.
M
Even in my own community, Branson, Missouri, there are people hurting, in need, in dire straits compared to my situation. If I am a Christian, I take on the name of Christ, so I must be rooted and grounded in love. My actions should demonstrate my faith and belief. Faith without works is dead, just as works without faith is dead. One should not call themselves a Christian, if they are not willing to lay down their life for another, if they are willing to look the other way and not lend a helping hand to their neighbor, if they are not willing to give of themselves and their belongings to help someone out who needs it. Do you see the teenage kid who hangs out in your neighborhood that seems to have nothing to do and nowhere to go? The kid’s parents work and leave them alone too often and probably not because
www.OzarksChristianNews.com they want to, but because the economy has forced them to. Ask yourself, “What can I do to help this situation?” Maybe you could afford to buy a week’s worth of groceries once a month for the family to help them financially, so the parents could spend more time at home. Maybe you could become a mentor for this kid. Maybe you could take this kid to youth group and to church.
Do you see the single mother struggling to put bread on the table while juggling the job of both mom and yes, dad? Perhaps you could lend a helping hand and babysit for her, for Free. Maybe you could buy
clothes for the kids each season, because they tend to grow you know. Maybe you could be a father figure for her kids. Do you see the widow who lives down the street, alone, with no family? Perhaps you could mow her lawn for her and rake her leaves. Maybe you could fix something that is broken around her house. Conceivably, you could become her son or her daughter, her sister or brother. There’s no reason for her to be alone. Is America really the land of the free, or
are we as so called “Christians” bound in chains, worshipping idols? Has God taken a back seat to our possessions, our past times, and our priorities? Is there nothing you can give up to help another…if not your money, how about your time? So much of our time and money is spent on wasteful things, treasures that aren’t stored up in heaven. Think about it…how often ladies, do you get a manicure? Men, how often do you spend money on a football game, or spend your time watching one on TV? Families, how often do you dine out? Americans, I implore you to think about how you spend your time, to think about what is of greatest priority to you, to think about how you spend your wealth, and how you use the things God has given you. Then begin to ask yourself…do I know my neighbors, when was the last time I did something completely unselfish for a neighbor or a stranger, am I using the gifts, talents, and possessions God has given me to glorify Him and bless others? We live in the stage of the lukewarm church my friends. Many “Christians” have knowledge of the word, and belief in Christ, but are content to call smiling at someone “outreach”, content to tolerate blatant sin, therefore watering down the gospel for fear of offending someone, content to throw money at a ministry and call that doing their part. Smiling, may be the tiniest baby step of outreach, but in no way demonstrates laying down one’s life for another. As true Christians, we must begin to give of our time, of ourselves, and the love we pour out must be sincere. If we live in fear of speaking the truth for fear of offending someone, that helps neither the person we might offend, or ourselves. 2 Timothy 2:15,
Page 7 God’s Word Translation says, “Do your best to present yourself to God as a triedand-true worker who isn’t ashamed to teach the word of truth correctly.” Preach the truth in love and gentleness, but do not water it down! Salt loses its saltiness when it is watered down and is therefore good for nothing, but should be thrown out. While there is nothing wrong with giving of your money, to help out a ministry, which is much needed, there is something wrong with thinking that this is the only role you should play in sharing the gospel. Can you not give of your time and your talents too, or are you content with slapping a band aid on a gaping gash? Did God intend for only some of His people to go and make disciples of all nations? Were you excluded from this calling, from the great commission? America, it is time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. Not because your works will save you, because they won’t, because we are saved by God’s grace. However, your works are a reflection of your beliefs; they are a testimony of who you believe in. We are to be the salt and the light of the world. We must let our light shine before men, so they may see our good deeds and praise our father in Heaven. Saying, “I Love You!
November 2012 of physical pain (as any couple going through a hospital ordeal can attest to).
by Leslie Parrott with Les Parrott Of all the little expressions of love — such as a box of chocolates, a hand-written poem or a bouquet of wild flowers — my favorite is a good old-fashioned kiss. Whether it be our customary kiss when we greet each other after a day at work or a surprise smooch in line at the grocery store, I always feel loved when my husband, Les, initiates this simple act of affection. Did you know the word kiss is thought to have originated from an Old English word that mimics the sound of kissing? However it originated and whoever named it really doesn't matter to me. I just know I like it. And why shouldn't I? Kisses, according to a Danish saying, are the messengers of love. When it comes to public expressions of love, married couples have more than kisses in their nonverbal vocabulary. Holding hands is another favorite. It communicates affection, protection and comfort. Science has even shown that holding hands blunts the brain's response to threats
Perhaps the loudest statement holding hands makes is to others. It communicates that you are a couple. Whether it's the simple grasp or the more intimate interlocking of fingers, holding hands is a great expression of love. Even more intimacy is found in a hug. A warm embrace can be practiced publicly or privately without stigma. A hug can be an expression of support and comfort or of romance and devotion. Studies even indicate that frequently hugging your spouse can produce biological benefits, such as lowered blood pressure. But the greatest benefit of a hug is the feeling of acceptance and closeness it engenders. So if it's been a little too long since these three common expressions of love — kissing, holding hands and hugging — have found their way into your daily marital routine, you may want to be a bit more intentional about renewing public displays of affection. These little connections throughout the day may be the most important expressions of love you don't say.

KEEPING THE FAITH IN NORTH KOREA by Charlie Butts (OneNewsNow.com) A new book authored by Eric Foley of Seoul USA chronicles three generations of one family who kept the faith in spite of North Korea's hostile and deadly approach to Christianity among its citizens. The book is titled These are the Generations -- and it starts with the Bae family [not the family's real name] beginning with the inception of the North Korean state. In the 1960's Christianity was purged from the country and believers were executed, Bibles were burned and churches torn down. A remnant, representing about 100,000 people, still exists in a very underground church.
www.OzarksChristianNews.com
Foley of the Colorado Spring-based group Seoul USA was able to interview Mr. Bae about his grandfather, mother and he and his wife raising their own children very quietly as Christians. Foley recounts the story of Bae spending a year in prison after a co-worker observed that Bae and his wife had a successful marriage while the co-worker did not.

The book provides an inside look at Christianity in North Korea that the outside world never sees and a close look at the state religion, which involves worshipping the countries leaders. The book is available on Amazon.com.
Attending a wedding for the first "Mr. Bae said, 'Well we have 10 rules in time, a little our house,' and he explained the 10 girl whispered Commandments. The friend shared that with his wife, and the wife reported Mr. to her mother, Bae to the authorities," Foley says. "The 'Why is the bride dressed next thing Mr. Bae knew he was put in in white?'' prison and experienced just terrible The mother replied, physical punishments even while he 'Because white is the color was being investigated." of happiness, Prison conditions are deplorable and and today is the happiest most people do not survive prison. people die every year to non smoking heart disease (related to obesity from poor diet) we might have to consider a Twinkie insurance tariff for those folks.
Election Reform This presidential campaign cost an estimated 6 billion dollars. There is no doubt the harsh reality is that if you want to run for political office you have to be rich and tied to a very flawed political party. Here is what I would suggest:
According to the CDC (center for Disease Control) there were 30 billion packs of cigarettes sold in America last year. Instead of the proposed new tax on tobacco here in Missouri it was another misguided attempt by state officials (and now its citizens to justify yet another desperate attempt to throw more money at our failing school systems) here is what I would do:
We would pick our candidates in the very same was as American Idol. It would cost nothing to the candidate because there would be plenty of commercial sponsors wanting to underwrite the “show”.
Impose a one dollar insurance policy on every pack of cigarettes sold to be used in the health care system for smoker related illnesses. This would generate 30 billion dollars to be used for the treatment of cancer patients. Pragmatically this would relieve 30 billion dollars on our medicaid and medicare related expenses from smokers. After all, it was their money that put the funds in my new insurance program in the first place. Be careful here not to have the attitude that the cancer was self imposed so let the smokers bear the cost. Exactly! That is what they would be doing. Since more

This method would be completely fair to all the disenfranchised people who but for the lack of cronyism and wealth would have the potential to be great leaders. Each round would progress to the top 50. Then political advisors will be permitted as the pack is narrowed. They would be given one week to prepare their presentations. There would be personal interviews to get to know the top winners much like the singers get.

One of the Worst Ways to Eat Eggs
3 times more vitamin E, 1/4 less saturated fat 2 times more omega-3 fats7 times more beta carotene
By Dr. Joseph Mercola
Where and How to Find High Quality Free Range Eggs Your best source for fresh eggs is a local farmer that allows his hens to forage freely outdoors. If you live in an urban area, visiting a local health food store is typically the quickest route to finding high-quality local egg sources. Your local farmers market is another source for fresh free range eggs, and is a great way to meet the people who produce your food. With face-to-face contact, you can get your questions answered and know exactly what you're buying. Better yet, visit the farm and ask for a tour. Most will be eager to show off their operation, as long as they've got nothing to hide. Your egg farmer should be paying attention to proper nutrition, clean water, adequate housing space, and good ventilation to reduce stress on the hens and support their immunity.
he definitions of "free-range" are such that the commercial egg industry can run industrial farm egg laying facilities and still call them "free-range" eggs, despite the fact that the birds' foraging conditions are far from what you'd call natural.
T
True free-range eggs are from hens that roam freely outdoors on a pasture where they can forage for their natural diet, which includes seeds, green plants, insects, and worms. Large commercial egg facilities typically house tens of thousands of hens and can even go up to hundreds of thousands of hens. Obviously they cannot allow all of them to forage freely. These confined animal feeding operations, also known as CAFO's, are where the vast majority of commercially available eggs come from. But while flimsy definitions of "free range" allow such facilities to sell their products as free range, please beware that a hen that is let outside into a barren lot for mere minutes a day, and is fed a diet of corn, soy, cottonseed meals and synthetic additives is NOT a freerange hen, and simply will not produce the same quality eggs as its foraging counterpart... Free Range Eggs are More Nutritious Mother Earth News' 2007 egg testing project clearly demonstrated the nutritional differences between eggs from free-range pastured hens and commercially farmed hens. This difference is not an occasional fluke—it's the natural and inevitable result of the diet of the hen laying the egg. Compared to official U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) nutrient data for commercial eggs, eggs from hens raised on pasture may contain: 1/3 less cholesterol, 2/3 more vitamin A
Cornucopia.org offers a helpful organic egg scorecard that rates egg manufacturers based on 22 criteria that are important for organic consumers. According to Cornucopia, their report "showcases ethical family farms, and their brands, and exposes factory farm producers and brands in grocery store coolers that threaten to take over organic livestock agriculture." Besides that, you can tell the eggs are free range by the color of the egg yolk. Foraged hens produce eggs with bright orange yolks. Dull, pale yellow yolks are a sure sign you're getting eggs form caged hens that are not allowed to forage for their natural diet. How to Eat Your Eggs for Maximum Health Benefits The CDC and other public health organizations will advise you to thor-
oughly cook your eggs to lower the risk of salmonella, but eating eggs RAW is actually the best in terms of your health. While this may sound like a scary proposition for many, it's important to realize that salmonella risk comes from chickens raised in unsanitary conditions. These conditions are the norm for CAFO's, but are extremely rare for small organic farms. In fact, one study by the British government found that 23 percent of farms with caged hens tested positive for salmonella, compared to just over 4 percent in organic flocks and 6.5 percent in freerange flocks. So, as long as you're getting fresh pastured eggs, your risk of getting ill from a raw egg is quite slim. According to a study by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, of the 69 billion eggs produced annually in the United States, some 2.3 million are contaminated with Salmonella—equivalent to just one in every 30,000 eggs. While eggs are often one of your most allergenic foods, I believe this is because they are typically cooked too much. Heating the egg protein actually changes its chemical shape, and this distortion can easily lead to allergies. If you consume your eggs in their raw state, the incidence of egg allergy virtually disappears. I also believe eating eggs raw helps preserve many of the highly perishable nutrients such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which are powerful prevention elements for age-related macular degeneration, which is the most common cause of blindness. Fresh raw egg yolk actually tastes like vanilla, in my opinion. The egg white is usually what most people object to when they say they don't like the texture of raw egg. If this is an issue, consider discarding the egg white, or simply blend the whole raw egg into a shake or smoothie. Personally, I eat just the raw egg yolks—I have four nearly every morning. I remove the whites because it's just too much protein for my challenged kidneys. Beware of con-
Page 11 suming raw egg whites without the yolks as raw egg whites contain avidin, which can bind to biotin. If you cook the egg white the avidin is not an issue. Likewise, if you consume the whole raw egg (both yolk and egg white) there is more than enough biotin in the yolk to compensate for the avidin binding. If you choose not to eat your eggs (or just egg yolk) raw, soft-boiled would be your next best option. Scrambling your eggs is one of the worst ways to eat eggs as it actually oxidizes the cholesterol in the egg yolk. If you have high cholesterol this may actually be a problem for you as the oxidized cholesterol may cause some damage in your body. Eggs Won't Harm Your Heart There is a major misconception that you must avoid foods like eggs and saturated fat to protect your heart. While it's true that fats from animal sources contain cholesterol, this is not necessarily a health hazard. As I've discussed on many occasions, your body actually requires cholesterol, and artificially driving your cholesterol levels down is nearly always doing far more harm than good. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol. It helps to produce cell membranes, hormones, vitamin D and bile acids that help you to digest fat. Cholesterol also helps in the formation of memories and is vital for your neurological function. In other words, dietary cholesterol is your friend, not your enemy. Besides, numerous studies support the conclusion that eggs have virtually nothing to do with raising your cholesterol anyway. For instance, research published in the International Journal of Cardiology showed that, in healthy adults, eating eggs daily did not produce a negative effect on endothelial function, an aggregate measure of cardiac risk, nor an increase in cholesterol levels. Thanksgiving and Sukkot In Jewish tradition, the Festival of Sukkot is a joyous occasion to give thanks and praise to the Source of Creation for the bounty we enjoy. In fact, we are told that during Sukkot, "you shall have nothing but joy." [Lev. 16:15] Jews erect a sukkah, a harvest booth, in which they eat their meals, and sometimes sleep, during the festival. It is a reminder of the booths in which their ancestors are said to have dwelled during their forty-year Sinai sojourn.

American pilgrims, who originated the Thanksgiving holiday, borrowed the idea from Sukkot. The pilgrims were deeply religious people. When they were trying to find a way to express their thanks for their survival and for the harvest, they looked to the Bible for an appropriate way of celebrating and found Sukkot. This is not the standard story taught in public schools today - but the Sukkot explanation of Thanksgiving fits better. The original Thanksgiving was a harvest festival (as is Sukkot), that was observed in the fall (as Sukkot is), and that Pilgrims would not have celebrated a holiday that was not in the Bible. Research shows that the first
Thanksgiving was "a harvest festival that included feasts, sporting events, and other activities," concepts very much in keeping with the Jewish religious observance of Sukkot. While we cannot be certain about what motivated those Pilgrim settlers to initiate a feast of thanksgiving, it is likely that they consciously drew on a model well-known to them from the Bible they cherished. Seeing themselves as new Israelites in a new "promised land," the Pilgrims surely found inspiration in Deuteronomy 16 in which God commands the ancient Israelites to observe the Feast of Booths--in Hebrew, Sukkot, "to rejoice before Adonai your God" at

It is no surprise to anyone that my patriotic magma is about to burst forth a bright orange spectacle of either elation or depression on November 7th. By Wednesday morning only one of America’s best hopes for President will remain standing as our President-elect. But here is the kicker: both the men and the results of this election have the capacity to hijack the hopes or ransom the fears of Christians nationwide at the expense of their faith in God. And unlike Barack and Mitt, God does know us and is watching to see what happens to our faith in Him
Page 13
"Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God" (Psalm 146:3-5). This is strong biblical medicine for God’s people on election day. Whether your guy wins or whether he loses, God is concerned with where your faith in him and life for him goes in light of the result. He knows that many followers of Jesus are heavily invested in the outcome of this election and he wants to remind us that all political outcomes pass through God’s filter before man’s ballots and the electoral college. On Wednesday some of us will say, “God allowed this outcome.” Others will say, “God wanted this outcome.” But either way, the outcome must not hijack my hopes or ransom my fears from God’s perspective. Neither the failures nor successes of men suggest failures or successes for God in my

Respect Him? Really? Elisabeth Corcoran, Crosswalk.com “I am in a very difficult marriage. The Bible and my church leaders tell me I’m supposed to respect my husband How do I do this even though he…?”
Q:
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Willow Creek Leadership Summit when Senior Pastor Bill Hybels interviewed f o r m e r President Bill Clinton inperson. There was a ton of controversy over Willow’s decision to invite President Clinton and I even had my share of internal conflicts. His infidelities had not yet faded from our collective memories and I didn’t know what the point would be of parading him in front of an audience of mainly conservative church leaders (except that he is known for his stellar leadership abilities and, you know, it was a leadership conference). Though I didn’t vote for him and though I couldn’t bring myself to fully respect him as a man for the dishonor he brought to the office and to his family, when he entered the room, I found myself standing and applauding, along with pretty much every other conservative church leader in that packed-out auditorium (I was even interviewed for NBC News and
www.OzarksChristianNews.com said something very, very blonde…awesome). Why did I stand and applaud? Because he used to be the President of the United States. That’s huge. I was compelled to stand to my feet and show reverence for the role, if not for the man. The role of husband as head of the household is also huge. The weight on the shoulders of men to gently lead their families to serve and honor God is heavy, and I believe they will be held to

husbands.” I didn’t do this well. Like, at all. This was hands-down one of my biggest failures over the past eighteen+ years. I justified my words and actions way too often, letting myself off a hook that God hadn’t taken me off of. So, here’s what I can tell you as you grapple with living within the small spaces of a difficult marriage and trying to obey God: respect the role.
Acknowledge
that being a husband is an honored role in Scripture. God isn’t up there scratching his head looking at these hard marriages of ours and thinking, “Wait…I didn’t see any of that coming when I told wives to submit…” He knew it would be difficult. In fact, if you think about it, he pretty much predicted it in Genesis 3:16 “Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
Pray. Ask God how he wants you to
a higher standard before God for the successes or failures of their families. Totally scary. The role, if not always the man, deserves respect.
do this within the context of your situation. What would honoring God look like for you? It might not look like anybody else’s marriage. And do not compare yourself to women in solid and godly marriages…that will only serve to make you feel worse about yourself and your marriage.
Show common courtesy. But what do you do if the man you are supposed to respect is unfaithful to you, is abusing you in any manner of ways, is addicted to something, or has emotionally checked out? I used to say to myself that I would respect my husband when he earned it, when he loved me. But somewhere along the line, I realized that it’s not a conditional statement. God doesn’t say, “Wives, respect your husbands when they love you the way you want to be loved.” He says, “Wives, respect your

Sometimes, things are so broken between a husband and a wife that the best way you can respect your husband is to be kind to him. We’ve talked about this before, but show him the courtesy you would show a stranger. Use gentle words. Use fewer words. Challenge yourself to perform one act of kindness per day. For a while there, I was making a salad every night for dinner for my husband to eat whenever he came home. It was a small act but it showed me and him (and God) that I was still trying.

by Veeda Smith And the angel said unto them. Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which shall be unto all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. Luke 2: 10 & 11. It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas in Branson. Family and friends will join together in the celebration of the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We remember His birth at Christmas by giving gifts to others. Jesus’ birth brought great joy to everyone and the gift of salvation. A gift that is free to all people. Jesus was born to die on the cross to save the world so that we might have eternal life. All we have to do is accept the gift by asking Jesus into our hearts. It’s truly a joyous time to celebrate! This year will be the 24th season for Ozark Mountain Christmas as Branson transforms into a winter wonderland with spectacular Christmas shows, dazzling light displays, and attractions
November 2012
“Keeping Christ in Christmas” is the theme of the 64th annual Adoration Parade in Historic Downtown Branson on Sunday, December 2 at 5 PM. “The Branson community gathers on this special day to set aside our individual aspirations and celebrate the true meaning of the Christmas season. It is our chance to stop and reflect on the beauty of the Christmas story that still inspires people today. On this special night, there is an overwhelming outpouring of community and celebration as we come together to honor the story of Christmas,” states The Branson Chamber of Commerce.
Born on January 12, 1958 in Bloomfield, Indiana, he was raised on a farm, the same one his parents still call home, along with two sisters and three brothers. It was a musical family, frequently singing at local events and at church. After high school, Dan and his brothers began touring up north where they became the top draw in many casinos and show rooms.
The celebration will kick off with the lighting of the nativity scene on top of Mount Branson across Lake Taneycomo. Following the lighting, the parade of marching bands and themed floats will begin near the convention center and Sycamore St and travel north to Commercial Street and circle around the Branson Landing. Many parade watchers bring their own chairs and come early to pick their spot along the parade route. A guy is visiting San Francisco, and walks into a small store in Chinatown. He notices a small bronze statue of a rat. He asks the owner "how much", and the owner replies "$50 for the bronze rat, and $1000 for the story behind it." The guy says, "forget the story", and buys the rat. As he's walking down the street he notices two live rats following him. As he continues to walk, more rats start following him. He starts to get a little concerned,

and heads for the waterfront. By the time he gets there there are thousands and thousands of rats following him. He walks up to the end of the pier and throws the bronze rat into the bay, and the rats all follow and leap off of the pier and drown. The guy rushes back to the store and walks in. The owner says, "Ah!, so your back for the story". The guys says, "No, I was wondering if you have any bronze liberals?"

Approaching Storm by Joseph Mattera
he recent storm metaphorically pictured the present situation of our nation: Even with a terrible storm on the horizon (on the East Coast) many people were being (spiritually) lulled to sleep while fascinated with football games and entertainment through media.
T
This is eerily similar to more than 1,500 years ago, when the Roman emperor distracted the masses with gladiatorial games, traveling circuses, and distributed free bread against the backdrop of the looming Barbarian hordes about to invade, plunder and ravage their cities. It is truly time for the whole church to wake up—to fast, pray and engage the culture as salt and light before night comes and no man can work! These are some of the words I have been saying with more and more frequency the past several years to leaders I know in the body of Christ. Lately I have been feeling sympathetic to the way Jeremiah the prophet must have felt as he kept warning of the impending doom coming to his nation if it did not repent. The following are seven of the storms I see coming: . The storm of divine judgment for not repealing legalized abortion.
1
It has been said that “If God doesn’t judge America He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.” Numbers 35:33 says something chilling related to judging a nation for the sin of bloodletting: “You shall not pollute the land wherein you are; for blood it defiles the land; and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. Defile not therefore the land, which you shall inhabit.”
www.Twitter.com/OCNEditor Basically this passage is referring to the fact that when innocent blood is shed, the land wherein it is shed is unclean and defiled until the blood of the aggressor is shed for retribution. Applying this passage in the case of our nation: there is not one particular individual held responsible because abortion has been legal since the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling. Thus it is a corporate, systemic sin! If the math in this passage is to be taken literally, this means that if America does not repent of this hideous sin then for every single baby legally aborted God will require the blood of the same number of people, which is between 30-50 million Americans! (Those involved with illegal abortion before and after the 1973 ruling would be held responsible as individuals by God.) Judgment in scripture for a nation seemed to come based on one generation. Read Luke 21:20-22 and Matthew 24:34 when Jesus predicted judgment on Israel for rejecting Him, which would be fulfilled within His generation. This was at least partially fulfilled in AD 70 when the Roman armies came and ransacked Jerusalem and destroyed the Holy Temple, about 37 years after His crucifixion. Also, the judgment on the nation of Israel for unbelief was to wander in the wilderness for one generation until all those over the age of 20 would die, which was about 38 to 40 (Num. 14:29-35). I hate to think of what could start happening to the United States after the 40th anniversary of legalized abortion (in 2013) if we continue to perpetuate this systemic sin by pro-choice elected officials and elite liberals pushing this hideous act in the name of a woman’s right over her body (in spite of our new technology that proves the so-called fetus is a human life!). I shudder to think of the extent of this judgment on the population if the prayers, actions and intervention of the body of Christ don’t go far enough to delay the
fullness of the wrath of God for bloodletting! Perhaps the increase of natural disasters over the past 10 to 15 years like statewide droughts, wildfires, massive flooding, devastating tornadoes and hurricanes, in addition to terrorist attacks at home and abroad are merely a portent of more devastation to come if we don’t repent of the sin of abortion as a nation. Since Obama got re-elected we can expect a perpetuation of this culture of death on our nation, especially since he will probably be able to pick the next two Supreme Court justices who would more than likely share his same liberal views. . The storm of judgment for electing a president who favors same-sex marriage.
2
Since the American people actually reelected the most radical pro-choice president in our history, along with the fact that he is the first standing president to support same-sex marriage, then it would be the ultimate act of snubbing our noses against God and His moral law! It would show the enormous extent in which we as a nation have hardened our hearts against our Creator and, as a result, are setting ourselves up to get the divine judgment we deserve to satisfy the justice of God! Furthermore, our current president not only supports same-sex marriage but he has also forbidden the U.S. Justice Department from defending the Defense of Marriage Act, which gives federal protection to states that don’t want to legalize or recognize same-sex marriage.
. The storm of the global economic

crisis.
Several weeks ago I asked a person involved in several high-level financial summits with some of the leading European economists why it is that Western European leaders wanted Obama to be reelected. I said, “Don’t they know that his economic policies will sink the American economy?” His answer startled

me. He said something like, “Yes, they know Obama will sink the U.S. economy but this is precisely what they want. They believe the euro will eventually collapse and they believe their only hope is for the American dollar to also collapse, so there will be a need for a I hate to th United States/Euro currency which could start ha they believe is United States a their best hope for economic 40th anniversa survival into the future”! abortion (in 201 They believe to perpetuate thi things will unravel within pro-choice elect the next few years elite liberals because of his highhideo tax, debt financing philosophy! During Obama’s first term in office our national public debt has increased from $10 trillion to $16 trillion. This is a greater increase in the debt by one president in one term than nearly every U.S. president from George Washington to George W. Bush. It is estimated the public debt will go to $22 trillion! Plus, he has no answers or practical policies to deal with the looming crises related to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and how to pay for his massive health plan better known as Obamacare except by repeating his impractical idea of taxing the rich. . because of class warfare and racial division. Many thought that electing the first black president was going to help ease ethnic tensions because it showed that the white majority in our nation has gotten over racism. But, in my opinion, his frequent pro-government, anti-business rhetoric has also brought to the public square the socialist language of class warfare that divides the rich from the middle class and the poor. philosophy is based on a “zero sum game” in which, in his view, a person can never get rich without taking it unjustly from the poor, thus spawning a policy based on greed, envy and covetousness!
Making it worse, in my opinion, some of his hink of what surrogates in media often ppening to the make it seem ter the upcoming that the (real) reason white ary of legalized people don’t 3) if we continue either agree is systemic sin by with or vote for Obama is ted officials and because he is black. Also, I pushing this recently read that ous act some leaders have predicted and many disgruntled people have tweeted that if Romney would have won the election, there would have been riots in the streets. I hope and pray that it never comes to this but the rhetoric on both sides has definitely been acerbic! . The storm of radical Islam.
5
The so-called Arab Spring has resulted in massive mob-led movements in Arab and Islamic nations which has replaced authoritarian leaders with radical Islamists who want to instill Sharia law in their nations (e.g. Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, to go along with the Islamic radical rule of Iran, Saudi Arabia and other nations, which eventually may even include Turkey which was once a secular Islamic nation that is now leaning more towards radical Islamic rule). What this means for America: there will possibly be more jihadists targeting our nation, American citizens abroad and all our interests, companies and properties on foreign soil, as well as more pressure from Arab nations to move away
www.Twitter.com/OCNEditor from our alliance with Israel in exchange for more of their oil, as well as greater cooperation and regional stability related to American interests. Obama’s foreign policy has been to leave these nations in revolution alone (whether right or wrong, many are critical that he didn’t do anything to support the uprising against the present regime in Iran that took place a few years ago).

. The storm from inordinate materialism, entertainment and pleasure seeking amongst the population.
With the increased capacity of social media, Internet, and entertainment there has come an increased amount of selffocus and individuality which is constantly reinforced to the masses of people by sponsors marketing their wares on television as they feed on our carnal desires. Consequently, we are increasingly becoming a nation of individuals who know little regarding living sacrificial, virtuous lives with a transcendent purpose; truly, our lives are not worth living if we have nothing we are willing to die for. A nation that values materialism and pleasure more than sacrificial love for faith, family, friends, and nation is a nation in decline whose best years are behind! The only hope will be for another Great Awakening that has the power to transform our cultural values and lifestyles, resulting in mass conversions and mass movement towards loving God first and our neighbor as we love ourselves. This is something only the body of Christ is called to do as the salt of the earth and light of the world (Matt. 5:13-16). Only the church can transform the culture of a nation from the ground up and top down, and which we are responsible to do no matter who is president! . The storm from a weakened
7
American church.
The Roman Catholic Church is reeling from numerous sex abuse scandals threatening their financial base, diluting their prophetic moral voice, and emptying their pews—especially of young people. So bad is their dilemma, they don’t have enough men planning to become priests to shepherd all their parishes, and they have to close and consolidate many of their parochial schools because they don’t have enough students to cover expenses. The Protestant Church has lost its majority status for the first time in American history, with a low of only 48 percent of the U.S. population. Also it is important to note there are presently no Supreme Court justices who consider themselves Protestant. The decline of the Roman Catholic and Protestant Church in America will have huge ramifications in regards to future policy decisions that in past generations had to consider the strength and opinion of the Roman Catholic Church and Christian population before attempting to pass legislation and before releasing certain movies, literature and modes of media. In my opinion, it is not a coincidence that same-sex marriage advocates made their huge policy move after the scandals of the Roman Catholic Church surfaced in the beginning of the 2000s, as well as the dramatic increase in lewdness and sexuality in television shows. Furthermore, the evangelical church has largely lost its center as its messaging frequently appeals to the rampant individualism deteriorating our culture with churchgoers and adherents motivated to come to Christ merely for self-fulfillment, health, wealth, prosperity, comfort and a shallow spirituality that comes without a radical commitment to the cause of Christ. This has resulted in the church appealing to and even perpetuating the very lifestyle that is responsible for our national and cultural decline.
Page 19 The only hope for America is for a godly, holy remnant to rise above the selffocused cultural fray so that we will once again have prophetic “pulpiteers” instead of men-pleasing “puppeteers” who water down the message of the cross, repentance, and eternity so their crowds keep swelling and their offerings keep overflowing! Since Obama was re-elected, look for more challenges to our freedom of speech and the First Amendment that could possibly squelch what is preached on the airwaves and from the pulpit. For example, in Canada the pulpits and airwaves have already been restricted in the name of hate speech. In closing, sometimes a nation has to unravel and its people experience disorientation before they are desperate enough to open up their hearts for a spiritual awakening. It may have to come to that in America, especially if this nation continues to choose leaders and elected officials who snub their noses at God. At the end of the day, whether America stands or falls, His kingdom and government will continue to increase and will outlast every manmade nation, kingdom and government! This included recent presidential candidate Gov. Mitt Romney, who recently visited in the evangelist's western North Carolina home while on a campaign stop in nearby Asheville. During their 30-minute meeting, which also involved Graham's son, Franklin, the men discussed a wide range of topics, including broad issues of faith, the moral decline in our country and the importance of emphasizing biblical values amidst the cultural shift of America. At the close of the meeting, Graham offered a prayer for the governor, his family and our nation and committed his ongoing prayers and spiritual support for him and
Currently, the evangelist is working diligently to finalize the manuscript for his 31st book summarizing the gospel message of God's love and forgiveness that he has faithfully preached for more than 60 years. Graham is excited about the book's release sometime next year and is considering additional writing projects as there is still much on his mind that he would like to share.
As evangelist Billy Graham prepares to celebrated his 94th birthday on Nov. 7, he has been reflecting on the previous year and preparing for what God has in store for him during his 95th year on the planet. "I never expected I would live this long, outliving my beloved wife Ruth as well as many friends and loved ones," Mr. Graham said. "I believe God must still have a purpose for keeping me here, and I look forward to seeing what that might be." Graham continues to be called upon to provide perspective on world events and the spiritual state of our nation, especially heading into a presidential election. He has encouraged all
He keeps up with world events and has a great concern for our nation as he's observed a decline in respect for biblical values.
Other ministry endeavors include the forthcoming nationwide evangelism campaign, "My Hope," to be launched by Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in conjunction with Graham's 95th birthday in 2013. He fully supports the project and hopes to be able to participate in some way as the date draws closer.
November 2012 Earlier this year, Graham authorized Chicken Soup for the Soul to create a special hardcover anthology documenting his life and legacy, Chicken Soup for the Soul: Billy Graham & Me, to be released February 2013. This compilation will contain 101 personal and impactful stories from influential leaders--including the last six presidents--as well as Graham's friends and family documenting his influence on their lives and the impact of his worldwide ministry over more than six decades. As in years past, Graham plans a quiet birthday celebration at home with his family, and looks forward to spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "I love them all and can't wait to see them again," he said.

FLIGHT Starring Denzel Washington and reviewed by John Sacoulas
www.OzarksChristianNews.com Defenders usually dismiss this notion with, “actors cannot dictate to the writers, producers or directors any kind of positive Christian messages. That might be the case, but do you think if Denzel would have said, “Hey guys, I don’t feel comfortable with every Christian in the film being goofy. How about one with just an ounce of character and an admirable personality? Or maybe when my character is flipping through late night TV and he buzzes pass all the televangelists, he might camp out on one of them that has maybe even a 10 second snippet of intrinsic value to his admonition to seek God for relief from the demons that vanquish the quality of your life?”
Movie Reviews in a nutshell...
Okay, I must admit, I never thought I would see my name in the same sentence as Denzel Washington. (It’s good to be the editor) However, this article will be predominately skewed with my frustration of the man, not the film. I am not judging my brother (He is a Christian by public profession. I am just observing with disappointment. Honestly, If I had his fame, fortune, good looks and talent; I would have self immolated years ago.) In an interview with Christianity Today magazine a few years ago, he stated, “I believe that Jesus is the Son of God," he says. "I've been filled with the Holy Spirit. I know it's real. I was in the room. My cheeks blew up, I cried like a baby, and it scared me to death. It kind of scared me off it. I backed up and went the other direction, to be honest with you. I didn't know what was going on. It was too strong. It has taken me many years to come back around.”
Do you think they would have told him “no” rather than lose their meal ticket? I don’t think so. Actor, John Goodman plays an eccentric character that is so profane and a totally unnecessary role in the plot, I have to believe the producers owed him a favor from the past that they were paying him back with his role. It was a ridiculous, gratuitous part that took away from the overall message of the film. Denzel just doesn’t need a supporting actor. He is too large of a talent for that.
Son of a Pentecostal minister and as a person who once considered going into the ministry, I expect more influence from someone with his power to influence.
I saw this film despite my normal caution of seeing an R Rated film because the trailer looked so compelling. Regrettably, in the first three minutes of the film the viewer is subjected to multiple F Bombs, total female nudity and strong drug use. I didn’t walk out because I am a coward and as a man not offended by a
November 2012 beautiful nude woman. (That’s the real problem, isn’t it?) The film like so many of Denzel’s roles sets up a gritty, ugly example of brutal human depravity to make the end of the film redemption more sweet. That’s not an excuse... it is just the common theme of all good stories. However, I can safely say that the same message can be delivered with great power with allusion and not be so graphic and still not be puritanical. In his “Book of Eli” role he delivered a positive message for the importance of the Bible but it was totally diluted at the end by putting it next to the Quran as an equally important “holy book”. In Flight there was many opportunities to show a positive influence on drunks and drug addicts but of course the believers in the movie were portrayed as moronic. His redemption didn’t come from an encounter with God directly but rather incarceration where he had no choice but to embrace sobriety. Having served in a state penitentiary I can attest that drunks and drug addicts that get sober is by God alone. God will deliver them supernaturally or by confinement without opportunity to feed the demons. The overall movie was entertaining with great special effects and a brilliant performance from Mr. Washington, but far too graphic for most believers (and rightly so!) You might wait until it hits the television circuit where they can Fabreeze the stench out of an otherwise great film.

YAK BAK Y Feed Back from our readers The saddest thing about President Obama getting re-elected is knowing how many so called, faithful Christians voted for him. He could not have been re-elected without them. Even though Obama supports and defends the most hideous moral policies and shows almost zero fruit of the Spirit. Well, sometimes God gives us His choice to bless us and sometimes He gives us what we desire. I do believe the Lord will use this man to starkly show us what happens when a nation departs from the guidance of our Creator and seek our hope in a man. I am optimistic for a Great Awakening to occur more than ever because Revival is always born out of desperation and sorrow... not happiness and prosperity. Candace J., Springfield MO ________________ Dear editor, I know this is late but I wanted to send it anyhow about the article, "The Hypocrite of the Christian 'Right'" Right at start he calls "other" Christians hypocrites if they don't agree with his "religion." For the record, he says their hypocrisy is accidental. He carries on about us voting, speaking out against the homosexuals, abortionists, etc. Just who is the hypocrite? … I think we are not against any one. I vote, protest the use my hard earned money (taxes being used to support things I don't believe in. It's people like him who want others (us) to support what he believes in. Studies show liberals like him as a group are the least givers (freely) of all society. Statistics show welfare money by forced taxes are meager on the dollar where as our (us hypocrites) money; 80% or more goes directly to those in need. Who is the hypocrite? The ones who want others taxed to pay for their programs even as Jesus accused the Pharisees to give but would not lift one finger to help the poor. Let real Christians keep giving privately. You are not the hypocrite. Give and it will be given to you by our merciful God. Don't
www.OzarksChristianNews.com be fooled by those who call you hypocrites. -Orin F Dean, Rogersville, MO __________________ I really appreciated the October 2012 Cross Talk article. Several things really bothered me. The first is the lack of Biblical support to Rev. Currie's position where as Mr. Barber cited Matthew 10:16. I believe the reason for this is there is no Biblical support for President Obama or his actions. The second point is that Rev. Currie apparently has blinders on and is parroting what the Obama administration wants the American sheep to believe. The third and most disturbing is that Rev. Currie even supports the Abortion Mandated healthcare plan that contradicts the Word of God, Exodus 21:22-25 “If men fight and hit a pregnant woman and her child is born prematurely, but there is no serious injury, he will surely be punished in accordance with what the woman’s husband demands of him, and he will pay what the court decides. 21:23 But if there is serious injury, then you will give a life for a life, 21:24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 21:25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise." as just one example of Scripture that condemns abortion. What does that say about the Reverend’s understanding of the Scripture when he supports ideas that are contrary to it? I would like to cite Matthew 18:6-9 “But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a huge millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the open sea. 18:7 Woe to the world because of stumbling blocks! It is necessary that stumbling blocks come, but woe to the person through whom they come. 18:8 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 18:9 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter into life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into fiery hell." After reading Rev. Currie's piece, my prayers go out to him, his family and congregation.

Prophecy: A New Generation Shall Dig a New Well in America by KIM CLEMENT It's a spiritual principle that I'm teaching you right now about what was dug for us. I'm not speaking to you as an individual--your forefathers, those that prayed for you, that sowed. I'm talking about America, that which was labored for. Many evil humanists have stopped those wells up and said, "We don't want this to happen; we don't want righteousness." If some of them had their own way, they'd shut down every church in this country. Hear what I'm saying. What is ours by inheritance, which our forefathers dug for us, for this nation, that they've tried to stop up and whoever
takes occupation says, "It belongs to us; we can stop it up if we want, even if by right it is yours." "This is not going to happen," says the Spirit of God. "These wells that were given to you, America, by your forefathers--wells of righteousness, wells of liberty--that were given to you and now they are stopping up and saying, 'They may be yours by inheritance, but they're ours because we have rulership and occupation.'" God says, "This will not happen, for a new well shall be dug by a new generation." That's powerful just that alone. I hope you're hearing me, everybody. God has big plans for this nation and the whole world is looking at America. Don't tell me they're not. The whole world is looking, and they're looking at the economy and they're laughing at us saying, "These people don't know what
they're doing." Well, that's changing. I felt the Spirit come upon me to say this and I think you understand what I'm saying. What did our forefathers do? They dug these wells of salvation and deliverance and righteousness so we could be Christian people, a Christian nation ... Don't take this lightly, America. He speaks to Isaac and says, "I am going to multiply you, do not fear." Do not fear. God says, "Do not fear."

FROM HELL TO THE CROSS by Gerald (Jerry) Dupy moke curled from the rough limestone chimney of a two-room log cabin, precariously perched on stacked stones, overlooking a dreary glade of cedar trees, miles from any other evidence of humanity. On this late April night, Norma Clinkenbeard Smith lay on her roughly-made bed in the back room of that cabin, in the final stage of childbirth. Notwithstanding the pain, Norma worried that the child about to be born would suffer the fate of her first-born, Virgie June. Norma had married Coy Smith while she was just 16.
S
Before her 17th birthday, she was a mother. Within a week of Virgie Junes birth, Norma and Coy had laid the infant to rest. Now this child was coming several weeks prematurely, presenting an uncertain outcome for the child, its mother, or both. Death in the backwoods came as easily as life. And now, three years after Virgie Junes death, in this stark little cabin, with only a neighbor lady in attendance, Normas final labor pains began while Coy paced in the cabins front room. Outside, in the black of night, a gentle rain muted the yelps and blood-curdling howls of a pack of coyotes. Screech owls passed news among themselves in their own eerie language.
www.OzarksChristianNews.com The story of his life is told in a newly-released book, From Hell to the Cross, written by award-winning career journalist Jerry Dupy. Dupy says in the books preface, After nearly six months of interviews, both in person and by phone, Ive learned that Bill Smith is far more than meets the eye. He has escaped a childhood of poverty, a lifestyle of self-destruction and has found the path that led him, finally, to discover his faith. He has, by his own wits, created a whole new model for business and real estate dealings. And it just so happens that his guitar-playing prowess is hailed by some of country musics greatest stars. He actually is a legend in that world. The story will take the reader on the same death-defying joy ride Bill Smith traveled through most of his life. If life is a roller coaster, Bills has been more like a rocket ship ride with a madman at the controls. Despite his early Christian upbringing, Smith now admits freely that he refused to acknowledge the fact that a greater power was working to protect him though the many events when the natural outcome should have been his death.
He escaped with his life after a steel-rending car crash, completely unscathed; he looked down the barrels of many large caliber pistols aimed at his head and walked away to see another day; he lived through a deadly bus crash that killed his closest friend; and he lived to tell the tale of an And so begins the unlikely story of Ozarks-born Bill Smith, a native of Carroll County, Ark., who was born armed attack when bullets flew and three into poverty in 1941, took to gambling, music, and men lay on the ground dead. women at a very early age and went on despite his devil-may-care attitude to gain fame and fortune, only to throw it all away and start again many times over.

him that if hed follow, theyd lead him to the paradise they called Hell. Through the urging of friends and family, and after finally having understood just how blessed a life hes lived, Smith said it was time to make amends by telling his story as a way to praise his savior, Jesus Christ. From Hell to the Cross is the result. I have had mixed emotions and a little pain in exposing this whirlwind journey to the Cross, Smith says. Nevertheless, I felt it was the only way to express my gratitude and amplify the awesome power of the Lord Jesus Christ. All the glory is His. Some great reviews have come from music greats Al Brumley, Jr., Moe Bandy, Barbra Fairchild, Tommy Overstreet, Wayne Carson, and Leona Williams giving praise to the book.

Maybe your past isn’t much to brag about. Maybe you’ve seen raw evil—and now you have to make a choice. Do you rise above the past and make a difference? Or do you remain controlled by the past and make excuses? Healthy bodies. Sharp minds. But retired dreams. Back and forth they rock in the chair of regret. Lean closely and you’ll hear them. If only I’d been born somewhere else. . . If only I’d been treated fairly. . .
If only I’d had more opportunities. . .if only. . . Put down the scrapbook of your life and pick up the Bible. Read Jesus’ words in John 3:6: “Human life comes from human parents but spiritual life comes from the Spirit.” God has not left you adrift on a sea of heredity. You have a choice in the path you take.

'Post-Election Stress Syndrome' BYDWIGHT BAIN major election leads to major change—psychologically, that is. No matter who wins an election, the unexpected emotional letdown or explosive reaction after the ballots are counted can be overwhelming to many—especially the aged or over-involved, who can be set up for crushing amounts of what I call "PostElection Stress Syndrome."
A
This election has likely been the most stressful of any during our lifetime because of numbing news fatigue and continual media overexposure, yet the real problems are yet to come. Personal anxiety, professional panic and poorly thought-out decisions are on the horizon regardless of your political persuasion. Why Such a Gloomy Projection? It’s based on how this election process has been so overwhelming much of the time with months of negative news, never-ending data to process, and confusing choices to make on complex issues while partisan experts are shouting every half hour on news/talk stations that we are all doomed if their candidate doesn’t win. Not to mention the huge challenge on who is trustworthy, since you often don’t know who will say something inappropriate on YouTube and crash their credibility, leav-

ing you feeling very alone to make some major decisions without leaders who lacked the strength of character to stand on their convictions instead of popular opinion polls. Mountaintop experiences guarantee the next step is always the valley. Think of a major campaign like climbing a major mountain range. You prepare for years and climb for months to finally reach the top. Once there the view is great. You take some pictures, but you can’t stay on a mountaintop; so no matter which way you head, it’s down in any direction. After the mountaintop comes the valley, which is a normal part of life. The danger is that for many people the downward slide is so unexpected. Most actual mountain-climbing accidents happen on the way down, and I project that there will be millions of people who are unprepared for the emotional upheaval they are about to experience after the election is over. Everyone will feel some degree of emotional letdown once the issues have been decided and the acceptance speeches are given. That’s normal. However, for some the removal of posters, signs, balloons and banners will lead to a free-fall of depressing emotions. If someone has been a “news junkie” the last few months it will be especially stressful. Those feelings of distress will come out in one of two ways:
1) Anger:This can lead to violence and impulsive decisions. People who feel violated by the election process will often turn to dumping volcanic levels of anger at someone or something to find relief for the pressure inside. This can lead to devastating decisions, impulsive rage or using the wrong words in front of the wrong people and losing credibility, or worse—a job. This can happen in men or women, young or old, but is most commonly seen in more extroverted personalities and it tends to blow up and blow out fast. 2) Apathy:This is a more dangerous reaction, since it can lead from distress to the early stages of depression. Stuffing emotions inside is like burying them alive and they just keep building up, yet instead of blowing up and out, they blow in. This leads a person to feel emotionally numb, and often can cause an individual to commit a series of very quiet, yet very harmful self-destructive acts. Eating for comfort, drinking to numb the pain, hooking up with the wrong partner to try and forget about the election, or just refusing to answer the phone, closing the mini-blinds and checking out on life like a hermit hiding in a dark cave. The best choice after an election is completed is acceptance. It’s over and now it’s time to move on with whatever leaders and issues the

majority of voters selected. You can’t change the outcome of an election, but you can freak yourself out with fears about the future apocalypse predicted by many. Don’t do that! Life will go on, and your world will continue. God is bigger than any politician and isn't in a panic, so trust in heaven's agenda—and not that of Washington, D.C.—and you'll immediately find a deeper level of peace. What happens in your house is way more important than what happens in the White House; you can’t control what political leaders do, but you can control you. Let this journey off of the political “mountain” be one of a growing sense of perspective as you remember that after the valley there will be another mountain to climb. There will be another day to vote on national issues and when the dust settles your life will usually be about as good as you choose to make it. This approach takes the power to control your mood away from the politicians or the media, so you can build a better life without losing sleep or energy from the dangers of Post-Election Stress Syndrome. DAVE $AY$ Financial Straight-Talk
Dear Dave, I recently got engaged. Is it okay for us to go ahead and combine finances and start working on a budget before we get married? Adam Dear Adam, No, it is not okay to combine finances with anyone to whom you’re not married. And by “okay,” I mean wise. I’m happy that you’ve found love, but all kinds of things can h a p p e n before the rings are slipped onto your fingers. I’m not wishing bad things on you, but what if you spend time paying off her debt, or vice versa, and then the relationship doesn’t work out? Bringing finances into that kind of situation is just asking for trouble. You do not want to go there! Now, all this doesn’t mean that you can’t begin working together on budgets for the future and goals for your lives. We’re talking about full disclosure to make this happen. She knows all about your income and debts, and you know about hers too. You guys need to have some serious discussions about saving, spending and debt, and get on the same page with your finances before the big day. But no, my advice is that you each pay your own bills until after you’re married. Once that happens, there’s no “yours” and “mine” anymore. It all becomes “ours.” —Dave
www.OzarksChristianNews.com Dear Dave, I’m a Christian, but my husband is not. However, we still budget a small amount to give to the church. I started working a part-time job recently, and would like to tithe on this income. Is it okay to do this without telling him? Christine Dear Christine, No, it’s not. Do you really think you’d be honoring God by tithing on this income while at the same time creating a situation where you’re dishonoring your husband by hiding things from him? That’s not a good idea. Your husband has already shown respect for your beliefs with his agreement to make tithing a part of your budget. I think you should return that respect and let him know you’d like to give a portion of your new income. Besides, you wouldn’t be tithing out of his income in a situation like this. It would just be a small portion of the new, additional income you’re generating. Remember, too, that not tithing isn’t a sin. God doesn’t love you more when you tithe, and it’s not a salvation issue. He wants us to be givers because he knows what it does for us on the inside. It makes us a little more Christ-like when we put the wants and needs of others ahead of our own. So sit down with your husband and explain your feelings on the issue. He doesn’t sound like an unreasonable guy. But regardless, you shouldn’t deceive someone just because you don’t see eye to eye on everything. —Dave For more financial help, please visit:

Becoming a man doesn't require that a boy share all of his father's interests and grow up to be "just like dad." You can communicate genuine love for your son and validate his personhood if you set him free to follow his natural bent and develop his God-given talents. If he's a born musician, don't force him to play football. On the other hand, if he'd rather turn a wrench than crack a book, don't expect him to become a Rhodes Scholar.
