They thought they were going to lose 5.2 billion, so it shocked Wall Street. Cut the money-making division of Sony was Sony Affirm, which is the Christian division. So, they buy these brands, they distribute the movies because they know they make money."

Opposition is mounting against Germany's ban on circumcision that has now led to criminal charges against a rabbi. A court in Cologne has ruled that circumcision is illegal, and a prosecutor has now confirmed that criminal charges have advanced against Rabbi David Goldberg, who performs ritual circumcisions in Northern Bavaria.

Movie Reviews in a nutshell...
The Odd Life of Timothy Green A small-town couple, Jim and Cindy (Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner), grieving over their inability to conceive, write the attributes of their dream child on scraps of paper that they bury in a box in the garden. That night, during a violent storm, a dirt-covered, leafsprouting creature claws its way out of the soil and into Jim and Cindy's house. This may sound like the beginning of a horror movie, but "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," written and directed by Peter Hedges ("Pieces of April";"Dan in Real Life"), does not belong in that category. Or at least not intentionally. The ghastliness of this damp and squishy comedy is the byproduct of a confused and earnest sentimentality, a willful devotion to wide-eyed wonder that confuses simplicity with simple-mindedness. “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” is rated PG (Parental guidance suggested). Some of its scenes may be upsetting to very young children and terrifying to plants.

Garon Brett Returns From Two Year Mission In Bogota, Colombia -Branson Newsdesk Late last month, Missouri entertainer Garon Brett of The Bretts Show will returned home from Bogota, Colombia where he has been serving a mission for his church for the past two years. "We have missed him a lot." says Tom Brett, father of the family, "But we have been extremely blessed by his serving a mission. So much that I'm a little nervous to have him come back," jokes Tom. Missions are anything but rosy though. "We have definitely worried about him being down there. Colombia isn't known for being a
safe place. Garon has been robbed twice that we know of, but happily hasn't been hurt. Apparently, that is a normal part of life." These two years have not only been challenging for Garon, but for the whole

Education TEACHERS UNION THREATENING SCHOOLS ACCEPTING VOUCHERS by Bob Kellogg (OneNewsNow.com)
The Alliance Defending Freedom has sent a supportive letter to private schools in Louisiana, as a teachers union is threatening to sue schools participating in the state's voucher program. The courts have not ruled on the Louisiana Association of Educators' lawsuit to stop the state's new voucher program. Even so, the union has proceeded to issue legal threats. ADF Attorney Jeremy Tedesco says that is shocking. "I mean, this is a program that's designed to help lowerincome families have educational choice for their children," he offers, "and because the educational association doesn't like them, they actually go so far as to threaten schools that participate in a program that no court has said is unconstitutional. So, we just thought it was a situation where we needed to respond." If the courts do eventually strike down the law, Tedesco explains that the union wants to recover the voucher funds from the schools. "What they're threatening in the letter is that they're going to recoup the money if the program is struck down; they're going to sue them to recoup the money they got from the program," the attorney details. "We don't think the case really supports that position." The ADF letter states, "LAE's bullying tactics are not only reprehensible, but also unlikely to succeed in a court of law."

Is there any particular event that stands out in your experiences during your service? I am very thankful to have survived three deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Fair Family Wins Gospel Sing-Off Branson, MO…A team of celebrity judges awarded first place in CAM’s 4th Annual Gospel Sing Off to The Fair Family of Rogers, Arkansas, a talented group of singing and dancing siblings ranging in age from 14 to 22. Competing before an enthusiastic audience at Branson’s Sight & Sound Theater, the four brothers and one sister won a prize purse of $1,500 and three performance slots at Silver Dollar City’s Labor Day finale of the Country Gospel Picnic.

We as humans have chosen to sin and we must deal with the repercussions whether they're good or bad. Sometimes, though, people don't stop to consider how far the rippling effects will go with each choice we make. I only began to comprehend this fact. Falling in love seems to be so easy to do. I should know, as I've fallen in love countless times. But that wasn't love. I've wanted so badly to be accepted and loved by anyone who would give me a chance that I compromised my purity. At the time I didn't stop to think about what I was about to give up to some man who didn't love or respect me. Guilt overtook my heart and I felt terrible. I cried out to Jesus and almost immediately, a peace filled my soul. A few weeks later, that great guy I was so in love with, was now cheating on me. I wasn't good enough after he so greedily took what he wanted from me. He never once stopped to consider how badly I would be hurt. To make matters worse, I now feared I was pregnant with his child. I never thought that this would happen to me and I never stopped to consider how disappointed my family would be with me. I grew up not having a big sister to look up to. So, I want to be a role model for my little sister. I want her to see that it doesn't matter if a man accepts her or not, because she's always going to be loved and accepted by her family. Sin is sin in God's eyes. It's all ugly, therefore, we should strive to please Him. In Hebrews, it states that the marriage bed should be pure. Fast Chat with Bernie Parquette Do you remember when you were first called to music ministry? Really, I was first called to ministry through music as a child, in church. I recall taking my little transistor radio out on a hill side pasture on our farm and listening to the music and singing along. Following high school, I attended the Stamps School of Music in Waxahatchie, Texas where I worked with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps which included Richard Sturban now of the Oak Ridge Boys. Hey, I was even voted Miss Congeniality at the time! Ha Ha. But life is a winding path and it would be some years before I was able to pursue music ministry directly. First, I sang in churches often and then weddings and even funerals. Any place or time I could glorify God with music. Finally that evolved into our ministry. What did your work with J.D. Sumner involve? I worked for J.D. Sumner at Sumar Talent in Nashville, an agency owned by J.D.. I worked with his daughter, Shirley Enoch (then wife of Ed Enoch) and others, and we performed all of the back office functions for the Stamps and other country and gospel acts. It was an education for a young country girl but was really my first real exposure to the great quartets of Southern Gospel music. You and husband Tom started Psalms 98 ministries, tell us about that and what size audiences you have ministered to. I had toured successfully with my country band throughout the upper midwest for several years performing for all sorts of events and venues. We opened for Jerry Reed and Paulette Carlson of Highway 101, and others. But my heart was firmly anchored in gospel music. Following our relocation to Branson I made a commitment to myself and God to only perform gospel music and only gospel music which would glorify God. Tom and I formed Psalm 98 Ministries and toured extensively from Branson throughout 35 states ranging from West Texas to Georgia and from Minnesota to Louisiana.
www.OzarksChristianNews.com Was your audience very diverse in size and culture? With our ministry, we had no criteria as to size, denomination or location when considering an invitation to present the ministry, other than ensuring that the audience was focused on a bible believing Christian base. I think the smallest church I performed for was a congreagtion of 19 members (right here in Missouri) and the largest was First Baptist-Atlanta, Rev. Charles Stanley's church. Audience sizes varied with various performances and services and situations of course, but I recall the largest single performance was seated at somewhere around 5300 folks. We always joked that no group or venue was off limits for us, as it is a singularly unique opportunity to present God's word but, we drew the only line at the snake charmers! We ministered through music to groups ranging from Appalachian poverty to Christian bankers as well as a top executive council of the Assemblies of God church. Black, white, Hispanic or Asian, it didn't and doesn't matter. The message was the Word of God and the message was received warmly. I understand that the Martins have contributed as back up singers on some of your projects? Jonathan Martin and Judy Martin Hess came in for me to sing background vocals on my Enjoying The Journey album and Gordon Mote did all of the arrangements and keyboard work for me. The Martins are all dear friends and sing from the heart with conviction. They are an outstanding family who have dealt with life's trials, as we all have, keeping our Lord in focus. And Gordon is an amazing, very remarkable man. I recently was blessed to hear your latest project "No More Tears". How did that project come about? No More Tears is, I think, my thirteenth full gospel project. It is a two cd set. My wonderful mother passed away September 1, 2010 at the age of 92. She was a truly remarkable woman. My father passed away at the age of 45 when I was ten and my mother raised five kids and continued to run the farm too. She had an eighth grade education, never had a drivers license, but she was so wise and so steeped
in the Christian faith. I wrote the title song, â&#x20AC;&#x153;No More Tearsâ&#x20AC;? as a tribute to her life in some small way. I wrote the lyrics and a dear friend in Nashville, Jared Blake of the recent TV show, the Voice, worked with me on the melodies. Then another dear friend, Bruce Hoffman here in Branson laid all the instrument tracks. I have been blessed with some enormously talented and truly dear friends both in and out of music. After No More Tears the song, the album and entire project took on it's own personality. Greg Roller engineered the tracking on No More Tears as well as the album and did an outstanding job. Some of yours fans visit you over at Mel's Hard Luck Diner. Have you worked there long? I have been with Mel's Hard Luck Diner for some 17 seasons now. I started when it was owned by Silver Dollar City. As Tom and I pursued the ministry work and travelled, Silver Dollar City was fantastically supportive in scheduling me around my ministry obligations. Mr. Mel Bilbo, in purchasing the Hard Luck Diner has continued that outstanding support as well as the support of a fine Christian environment both in which to work for the employees and as much for our guests to dine with both gospel music and music from many other genre's. What prompted you to open Heavenly Wear?
Page 13 The Heavenly Wear clothing line came first, of course. As we travelled over the years I was always looking for unique and original Christian apparel items and gifts. It was and is hard to find items with the appropriate message and above all highest quality, out there. So much is imported and the same thing wherever you go. About two years ago I decided to start researching the quality aspect, as anything I did had to be top notch, and then started designing as well. I started online and the items were very well received. So, it seemed a natural evolution that we decided to open Heavenly Wear, the retail store in Branson, last winter. All of our designs are exclusive and copyrighted, so they won't be appearing in Walmart! Thank you so much for chatting with the us. I know God has much more exciting adventures in ministry for you. Thank you for speaking with me today! God is good! Satan is at work all around us, everyday. It is important to walk with God in our daily lives. If I can touch someone, just one, with the Lord's message through music, then I have been blessed too. We all have the gift to accomplish sound witnessing through many channels whether music, speaking, writing, or visually by wearing the message. The importance is fostering God's word.

Dealing With Physical Distance in Marriage by Erin Prater
Whoever coined the phrase "absence makes the heart grow fonder" was likely single, speaking of his pet or, if he was married, taking an afternoon jaunt to the golf range. He probably wasn't leaving his wife and kids for a three-month contract project five states away, or deploying overseas for six to 18 months. When we marry, few of us picture spending extended amounts of time away from our mate. Then reality sets in. Be it contract or missions work, relocation, a business trip, higher education, deployment, coming to the aide of an ailing family member or similar situation, uninvited circumstances force us into a world of "temporary singleness." During this separation, you and your spouse will need each other more than ever as you "work out" your wedding vows, just as Paul called believers to work out their salvation in Philippians 2:12.
www.OzarksChristianNews.com While absence can make the heart grow fonder, long-term separation comes with a host of hurdles: less frequent communication, no physical contact and the potential for danger, to name a few. Though your upcoming time apart will be difficult, it won't last forever. And good can come of it. Consider Romans 8:28: "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." Whether you're facing one long separation, or a series of frequent separations, there's light at the end of the tunnel. There is more to look forward to than the end of this trial. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a person dies every 33 minutes in an alcohol related accident. And thats not all. An estimated 310,000 persons were injured in crashes each year where police reported that alcohol was present. Thats an average of one person injured approximately every 2 minutes. Consider these additional statistics from the United States Justice Department: Nearly 4 in 10 violent victimizations involve use of alcohol. Also, victim reports show, on average each year about 183,000 rapes and sexual assaults involve alcohol use by the offender, as do just over 197,000 robberies, about 661,000 aggravated assaults, and nearly 1.7 million simple assaults. There is clear evidence in the Scriptures that believers should not drink alcoholic beverages. In this report I list 7 Good Reasons Why Christians Should Not Drink Alcoholic Beverages. However, before we do that, we are going to look at the words translated wine, drink or drinking. A LOOK AT THE WORDS - There are 637

Most people think in todays terms, believing that when wine is mentioned it refers to alcoholic wine. Actually, that is not necessarily true. Thirteen different words are translated "wine" in the King James Version of the Bible. The word wine has a wide range of meaning in the Bible, covering everything from grape juice, to concentrated grape syrup to alcoholic wine. To understand what the Bible has to say about drinking, we need to look at several of these words. OLD TESTAMENT HEBREW WORDS FOR WINE - "yayin" -- It is a general term for grape beverages and includes all classes of wine, non-alcoholic or alcoholic; unfermented, in the process of fermentation and fermented. (Proverbs 31:4) The context will show whether it is alcoholic wine or not. Yayin, when used properly was always diluted with water. "shekar" -- It is the word for strong drink, unmixed wine. The 1901 edition of THE JEWISH ENCYCLOPEDIA says, "Yakin, wine, is to be distinguished from Shekar, or strong drink. The former is diluted with water; the later is undiluted." Shekar was not diluted with water." (see Numbers 28:7)

BELIEVERS ARE KINGS AND PRIESTS SEPARATED UNTO GOD "The prophets, the kings, the Nazarites, the leaders -- those who were special in the plan of God were total abstainers" says Dr. Paul Dixon, and he is correct. Kings and public officials were not to drink (Proverbs 31:45). Further Dr. Dixon says "the priests of the Old Testament were to abstain totally." The Aaronic priests were not to drink because they ministered in the tabernacle before the Lord (Leviticus 10:9) The application: Believers are a "royal" or kingly priesthood (I Peter 2:9). We are the temple of God (I Peter 2:5). We are Gods special children and should choose total abstinence. Drinking, even social drinking, cannot be legitimately supported by the Bible. Every drink that is available today, even beer, falls into the category of unmixed or strong drink. Clearly, Christians should not drink alcoholic beverages. Drinking socially is a worldly activity and in light of the fact that believers are neither to be conformed to the world (Romans 12:2) nor love the world(I John 2:15) our choice should be clear. We ARE to be SEPARATE FROM the world (II Corinthians 6:17) and LIGHT TO the world (Ephesians 5:8; Phillipians 2:15). Perhaps social drinking has enhanced the acceptability of Christians in society, but it has not advanced the cause of Christ, and it does not glorify God! Social drinking is simply a means which the devil uses to blunt our testimony for Christ and squeeze us into his mold. There are at least SEVEN GOOD REASONS A BELIEVER SHOULD NOT DRINK. One should be enough.

Christians are Permitted to Drink in Good Conscience - by Dean VanDruff This is an area where godly people can come to different conclusions. Rom 14:1-5 (NIV) Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. One man's faith allows him to eat everything, but another man, whose faith is weak, eats only vegetables. The man who eats everything must not look down on him who does not, and the man who does not eat everything must not condemn the man who does, for God has accepted him. Who are you to judge someone else's servant? To his own master he stands or falls. And he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.... Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. The point is that nowhere in scripture is drinking prohibited, and many godly people drank/drink. What God does clearly and forcefully forbids is drinking for the purpose of getting drunk. Some have purposed before God to not drink at all. Those who do so with godly motives are: Applying the scripture to have no appearance of evil; Walking circumspectly and carefully considering their besetting sins (being an alcoholic by nature) or; Out of love for someone else who might stumble if they did. Personally, I am not seriously tempted towards substance abuse and have freedom in Christ to drink. I would not, of course, drink around someone who struggles with this temptation, nor would I if this might be used to taint my witness in any way. When I first went into the business world (1981) I did not drink while dining out with
co-workers or customers, thinking this would be a good chance to call attention to my faith when asked why. But after a while, I was convicted that I was being hypocritical... since I did in fact drink (very rarely) among friends and family. Thus, the segue of my witness was based on a subtle deception, a "false witness" of sorts--as if I did not drink at all and that I did not because I was a Christian. So I started drinking as might be fit for the moment in moderation. I have never been drunk in my entire life. I have had the opportunity to help more than a few recovering alcoholics, and I have seen first hand the ravages of this besetting sin. Thus, I completely understand how some people so hate what alcohol has come to represent in this culture that they condemn the whole. But in biblical times they did not have the "hard liquor" readily available as we do now, it was largely wine. Wine is generally used as a type of blessing in the Old and New testaments, which strikes our modern sensibilities as odd. When we think of alcohol it is hard not to think of drunk drivers, someone we know who has been killed or maimed by one, ruined families, beaten wives, lost jobs, etc. But this is due to the depravity of man being manifest in the last days, and was not the perspective that the Scriptures were written from. Wine is spoken of as a blessing by God, and is even used to describe the New Covenant infusion of the

Page 19 Spirit in type. Like any blessing, it can be abused and this is sternly and vividly warned against. Eph 5:18 (NIV) Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. Rom 14:17 (NIV) The kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. We should not try to persuade people who loathe alcohol to do what for them ("be convinced in your own mind" Rom 14:5) might well be sin. And if for them, then we can abstain from it for their sakes on occasion with nary a thought of real loss. For the kingdom is not about eating or drinking, and we can be all things to all men as would be edifying. Rather, let us aim at righteousness, peace, and joy!

The facts are these: Mayors of several American cities—among them Chicago and San Francisco—have threatened to deny Chick-fil-A permits to build franchises in their cities, not because of any overt discrimination by Chick-fil-A against gay people—there is none—but because of what the owner thinks of gay marriage. In fact, the company's anti-discrimination policy specifically prohibits any kind of discrimination against any group. Never mind that such a ban on granting building permits would be illegal as an abridging of our constitutional right to free speech! Law in America has become an increasingly bendable thing as the spirit of lawlessness has taken root and grown. We now reinterpret laws to mean what we want them to mean as opposed to what the framers intended them to mean—or we ignore them altogether when they seem inconvenient. This is true both legally and morally. According to Matthew 24:12, "Because

I personally witnessed Chick-fil-A employees responding in grace and love to some very obvious hatred directed at them. All three ministers were charged with offenses from June 29 and July 6, 2012. They stand near the Bar and a hotdog and trinket stand (The Snak Shack) on Main Street in the public right-of-way. They do not block pedestrian traffic. The officers' testimony was that the ministers blocked a sign in the public easement. The Snak Shack took over the public easement with several "A" framed signs that were by rope in an attempt to keep
the ministers off the easement. The ministers stood with a quiet demeanor at the corners of the public easement and ministered to the local "drinking crowd" in a calm manner. The defendants were represented pro bono by Dee Wampler and Joseph Passanise, in cooperation with the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ), a nationwide Christian advocacy group of attorneys (Jay A. Sekulow, Chief Counsel). The trial was held at the Noel City Hall, a former abandoned train station and railway depot with a standing room only audience.

However, the email text contains a very conspicuous falsehood, namely the claim that "Imam Ali" was one of the terrorists who flew planes into the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He was not. None of the 9/11 hijackers identified by the FBI went by that name. In fact, Imam Ali — whom Shia Muslims revere as Muhammad's successor and Islam's First Imam — died more than 13 centuries ago, in 661 A.D. His martyrdom is commemorated on the 21st day of Ramadan each year, which in 2009 happened to fall on September 11.

As you may recall, earlier this year the federal government issued a new rule as part of the recently upheld healthcare law, requiring almost all religious employers to provide insurance that pays for contraceptives and possible abortion-causing drugs. Employers can't opt out of paying for the coverage, a n d employees c a n ' t refuse it. The only exceptions to the rule a r e churches. Scores of other religious employers— including Catholic hospitals and Christian universities—objected to the rule, pointing out how it forces them to violate their conscience and their faith. January the government announced it was revising the rule to create a so-called "safe harbor" for them: instead of being forced to comply in August, as all secular business owners were, they would have an extra year to find a way to make their faith coordinate with the mandate. Wheaton College, a Christian university in Illinois, didn't qualify for the "safe harbor" extension. So administrators sued the federal government, saying the mandate violates the First Amendment of the Constitution.
And the federal government responded, not by backing away from the mandate, but by revising the rule yet again: Under a revision that took effect on Aug. 15, Wheaton College now qualifies for the deadline extension. As a result, the federal court that was hearing the case dismissed it last Friday, saying that because no one at Wheaton has yet been forced to violate their faith, no harm has been done. This is a brilliant piece of gamesmanship by the government. By revising the rule, the lawsuit disappears for another year—without a decision determining whether relig i o u s freedom trumps the edicts of federal health officials, and without dominating the headlines to remain in people's minds. The only problem is that the issue at the heart of the case can't be dismissed quite so easily. Either the First Amendment actually means something—including the public expression of one's personal faith—or it doesn't. And by punting the decision, the court has allowed a wrong to continue. This then, is the heart of the struggle for religious liberty that is fast building to a crisis in our country. May God grant perseverance and courage to those religious employers who are taking their stand against the heavy hand of government. as it’s about your son becoming a man. At this point in his life it’s going to be really good for him, emotionally and spiritually, to stand on his own two feet. It sounds like you’ve got some good ideas about saving and financial responsibility, and he needs to take some of Mom’s advice in those areas. But it’s time he had his own place and started paying his own bills. It’s time for this one to leave the nest, spread his wings, and fly. Here’s something else to think about. He’s going to look a whole lot better to the world if he’s out there standing on his own. I think lots of young ladies, not to mention their parents, will be much more impressed by a guy who’s making his own way rather than living at home with mom. He’s at a point where he’s reaching for dignity and trying to make his way in the world. Let him do it. I’ve got a feeling he’ll make you proud! —Dave

Vickie Dear Vickie, The fact that you’re worried about this situation means you realize that fun and exciting don’t necessarily translate into being wise. I’m sure he’s a nice guy, but your concern tells me that you two are from completely different planets when it comes to handling money. And that can be a death knell to a marriage. Disagreements over money and finances are the number-one cause of marital strife and divorce in North America today. Fighting over debt and the stress brought on by financial problems will take a heavy toll on any relationship.

How you spend your money says volumes about who you are, where your values lie, and what’s important to you. This guy is fun because he’s impulsive and has a lot of toys. But the fact that he’s gone into debt for this lifestyle also means he’s a little boy and not a responsible man. And unless you guys can get on the same page with how money is handled, I would strongly advise not going forward with a wedding.
