Having completed our first on the road journey as roaming entrepreneurs, it because obvious that the managing all the electronics that keep the business going, along with the wires to keep them charged became a bit unbearable. I really want to simplify at least part of the process, and I think the iPad will do just the trick. Here's how traveling with the iPad is going to make things a little easier: 1) Navigation Bye-Bye GPS, Hello iPad: By loading a Nav App like MotionX we can get the best of navigation - with real time data, not just the most recent as we have "uploaded to our GPS". From MotionX "Search, maps, routing, points of interest, and relevant destination information, such as phone numbers and addresses, are all up-to-date." 2) Social Media Updates: TweetDeck has an app just for the iPad - so I can manage my the views and information for multiple twitter account - in an easy to see layout - that is easier to read than on my tiny Blackberry screen. 3) Reviews of Fun Places To See: We can access the web and find the best spots to eat, drink and play in the town we're in. (Note to local business owners - if you're not keeping your Google Places listing up to date - you may be missing business from the out-of-towners who'd love to stop by and try some local fare). And with the portability of the iPad, I can easily look things up while we are on a shuttle or in the car - without pulling out the laptop. 4) Reading: Well this one was obvious, but of course, it would be a great way to take books on the road, without losing valuable real estate in the back of the Subaru. And if I chose to do a little reading with the iPad in the tub, I can always slip it in a waterproof iPad case. and finally, 5) Movies: Hooray, we can have a poolside movie streaming directly from our Netflix account, while relaxing by the pool, a great way to wrap up a busy day on the road, without having to stop by the Redbox and add more to the load.
Mostly I am looking forward to lightening the load on the road and keeping the portability of traveling more portable, too. If you've thought about taking your ipad into the bath, too. There's an ipad case for that, too.
