If you're even remotely interested in the idea of being able to earn a living from home, chances are you've seen many "get rich quick" scams being advertised on the Internet. And if you haven't seen them yet, consider yourself lucky! While it certainly is possible to earn a good living working from home, making money on the Internet isn't quite as easy as some would lead you to believe. By the same token though, the Internet affords us so many possibilities to make money that just didn't exist years ago. One of them is called "affiliate marketing". Affiliate marketing is a system whereby the vendor (merchant) employs a number of "affiliates" who work on his behalf. These affiliates work as Internet salespersons, trying their best to promote and sell a particular product or service. Successful affiliates are responsible for driving traffic to the merchant's website, and in general do a good job of promoting the value of a particular product or service. If a sale is made resulting from the affiliate's efforts, he or she is awarded by getting a commission of the total sale price. This is a very brief summary and admittedly an oversimplification, but that is how affiliate marketing works at a high level. Arguably the most important job of an affiliate is to generate traffic to a web site (either the affiliate's or the merchant's) where the potential buyer is sold on the benefits of the product or service. Without traffic, an affiliate will not be successful. And by far the best way to drive traffic to any web site is with the use of pay-per-click (PPC) advertising. Did you ever search on Google and see those links going down the right side of the page? Those are PPC ads. Google calls their PPC advertising system "AdWords". The way it works is like this: An advertiser (in our case this would be the affiliate) pays for different keywords that a person might search on. When the person searches those particular keywords that the advertiser bids on, the advertiser's ad shows up on the right hand side of the page. Depending on the keywords being bid on, this is an extremely powerful way to drive traffic to a web site! Without question, AdWords represents the easiest and most foolproof way to get on the first page of Google. But while it's certainly possible to make good money with AdWords, you can also lose your shirt if you don't know what you're doing. Despite what you sometimes hear, AdWords can be a bit risky if you're new to the game. But if you take the time to learn the basics you will be on your way to earning a nice living from home (not to mention you'll be ahead of the competition, since many affiliates advertising on AdWords don't even now the basics). And while there are many components of a successful ad, let me share with you one "inside tip" that will put you ahead of the pack: Your ad should emphasize the benefits of the product or service, not the "features" -
A benefit is something that can be directly attributed to use of the product or service. For example, if you're writing an ad about a lawnmower, don't tell your readers how great the blade is (feature), but rather the effect that the blade will have on their lives ("your neighbors will envy you"). The bottom line is this: Success with AdWords usually doesn't come right away (no matter what other might say), but if you stick with it I guarantee you can make good money with AdWords provided you're willing to learn. And if you keep at it, you could very well earn a nice living from home by combining the power of AdWords with affiliate marketing.
