CANNON DELIVERS STATE OF CLINTON TOWNSHIP ADDRESS
CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Another year, another chance to tout the township’s accomplishments. On the morning of Jan. 26, Clinton Township Supervisor Robert Cannon took the podium at the ClintonMacomb Public Library’s main branch and delivered his State of Clinton Township address.
Put on by the Macomb County Chamber, Cannon’s address focused on the various business and real estate developments that unfolded over a year that saw 177 businesses enter Clinton Township. Cannon structured his address as a tour of the township. Groesbeck was the first corridor to have its development discussed, referring to the road’s prior zoning conditions as a “mess” that was untangled by the

Clinton Township Trustees approve 911 fee ordinance BY DEAN VAGLIA dvaglia@candgnews.com
CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Businesses calling for emergency services in Clinton Township may be in for a shock soon. The Clinton Township Board of Trustees approved a nonemergency lift assistance fee for assisted living, independent living, nursing homes and other facilities at its Jan. 22 meeting. Township ordinance 488 establishes
the ability for the township “to assess a service fee for the responses defined herein for non-emergency patient lift assists and providing other non-emergency services for residents at residential living facilities that market themselves as providing, or actually provide, on-site staff and services for their residents.” The fee is currently set at $500 for any lifts deemed nonemergency and is assessed for the sixth and all subsequent nonemergency calls.

“People should come down,” Rocker said. “It’s a blast. It’s a fun show.” The rockabilly cat will slap his bass alongside bandmates Buzz Campbell on electric guitar, drummer Larry Mitchell and Phil Parlapiano on keyboards. “It’s an amazing four-piece band,” Rocker said, adding “it’s been a very long time” since he has been in metro Detroit. The idea to spotlight Rocker at the Macomb Center came from William Wood, director of Macomb’s Cultural Affairs and Community Engagement. “As a founding member of the Stray Cats I was interested in bringing him to Macomb. I remembered how awesome that group was and when I heard him play in NYC last year, it sealed the deal for me,” Wood said via See ROCKER on page 7A

MACOMB COUNTY — Dr. Mary E. Pietrangelo is the new chief medical examiner for Macomb County. Pietrangelo takes over the role after Dr. Daniel Spitz ended his pathology contract with the county in October 2023. “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Mary E. Pietrangelo in her new role as the chief medical examiner,” said Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel in a press release. “Her experience and dedication to forensic pathology in and around Macomb County make her an invaluable asset to our team, and we look forward to the positive impact she will have in bringing her leadership to the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office.” Pietrangelo is a graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine and specialized in forensic pathology during a fellowship at the Office of the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner in Cleveland. Pietrangelo has served as a deputy medical examiner in Macomb and St. Clair Counties since 2012. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to practice forensic pathology at the Macomb County Medical Examiner’s Office,” Pietrangelo said in a press release. “I’ve learned much over the past years as a deputy medical examiner and I’m excited to be involved with the future of the office.”

Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office receives DOJ grant MACOMB COUNTY — The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office Hate Crimes Unit is getting a funding boost as it was awarded a Matthew Shepard and James Byrd Jr. Hate Crimes Program grant from the Department of Justice. The grant will be used over the next four years to fund a principal trial attorney for the Hate Crimes Unit. Hate crimes, such as ethnic intimidation, are an additional charge placed on top of assault and property damage charges. Ethnic intimidation is charged if there is reason to believe an act of personal or property violence was carried out due to a person’s race, color, gender, religion or national origin. “I appointed Assistant Prosecutor Patrick Colletta to head our Hate Crimes Unit to affirm my commitment to confronting intolerance and bigotry,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido in a press release. “Hate crimes undermine the foundation of our society, and my office is dedicated to fostering a community where every resident can live without fear and discrimination. Martin Luther King, Jr. once stated that the arc of the moral universe is long but it bends towards justice. Our Hate Crimes Unit represents our joint endeavor to hasten that bend, ensuring equality, dignity, and compassion for all.”

MACOMB COUNTY — Many Macomb County residents may not have heard of the MOMS Club of Southern Macomb County, but they have been supporting the community — and local moms — for more than 20 years. Katie Foster is the president of the MOMS Club of Southern Macomb County, a chapter of a larger nationwide organization with “MOMS” standing for “Moms Offering Moms Support.” The chapter serves Warren, Center Line, St. Clair Shores, Fraser, Roseville and Eastpointe. “The MOMS Club of Southern Macomb County is a support group for moms of all social backgrounds to come together and find friendship,” said Foster. “As a club, our focus is on moms offering moms support. We also foster a safe space for children to play with other similarly aged kids. Our monthly calendar includes coffee dates, play dates, moms night outs, and other exciting events.” The organization meets monthly to dis-
cuss how they can improve the local community and how they can support one another. “The first Wednesday of every month, we have our Chapter Chat. We’re doing them at a restaurant since it is so cold out but when it warms up, we do them at McKinley Barrier-Free Park in Fraser,” said Foster. “Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. at the McDonalds at Van Dyke and I-696 will be our next one.” The next major event for the club will be a fundraiser at Cloverleaf Pizza in Eastpointe, at 24443 Gratiot Avenue. “On Feb. 29, we are doing a fundraiser for the Macomb Foster Closet,” said Foster. “That is going to be from 4-8 p.m. at Cloverleaf Pizza in Eastpointe. There will be raffle baskets, a 50/50 basket raffle, and 20% of the proceeds from the evening are also going to the Macomb Foster Closet.” In the last year, MOMS of Southern Macomb County took on a variety of projects. “Last year, our fundraiser was for Gianna House in Eastpointe. We raised about $1,000 for them. It supports mothers and See MOMS on page 18A

The ordinance comes in response to several facilities in the township calling the Fire Department for transportation in cases where an emergency response was not required. While Clinton Township Fire Department Chief Tim Duncan said at a prior meeting the township was able to get facilities to agree to reduce nonemergency calls, not all facilities have complied. “The whole purpose of the ordinance is not to be looked at as a revenue source; it’s for compliance with doing the right thing for their residents,” Duncan said. Ordinance 488 only targets the facilities. Township residents will not be assessed a fee for using emergency services, and the fees will be assessed against infringing facilities and not its residents.
Water and sewer bill
Trustees increased overall water and sewer rates by 2.7% from $10.63 per 748 gallons to $10.92. The water usage charge went up 2.5% from $3.49 to $3.58 and the sewer usage charge went up 2.8% from $7.14 to $7.34. Readiness to serve charges increased to $8.09 for water and $6.16 for sewer.
Chipping discontinuation
Trustees voted 4-1 to end the township’s branch chipping program, with Treasurer Paul Gieleghem absent. The service will begin winding down in February with notices posted on the township website and water bills with the last day of curbside chipping for Monday, May 13, and the last day
for dropping off branches at the Department of Public Works set for mid-July. “We figure about 20% of Clinton Township uses this service,” said Township Supervisor Robert Cannon. “Some of us have never used it. Others use it a lot. Some people use it 10 or more times a year; what happens then is we get behind. We have a feeling that some people are using their yard to have businesses drop branches off to be chipped.” Cannon estimates that continuing the program as-is would cost the township about $750,000 “over the next couple of years” to replace aging equipment and about $250,000 a year on workers for the program. “We can’t afford to do it, and the reality is we have to watch the budget,” Trustee Julie Matuzak said. “We are the only township or city around that does this service. … Is it more inconvenient? Yeah. I lived in Mount Clemens for a long time, and I bundled my twigs and I put them in the brown bags, and I figured out what to do with all this stuff, as do people all around us.” Ending the program is not the end of Clinton Township branch disposal. The township is currently working with GFL Environmental on bins for curbside branch pickup and chipping will still take place after extreme storms. After hearing six residents speak about removal of the service, Trustee Tammy Patton cast the lone vote against ending it. Patton’s concerns for removing the service came down to having difficulty working with GFL’s customer service, her own history with the chipping program and uncertainty over how removing the service will affect residents. Patton recommended surveying residents to assess their level of awareness and interest in the service.

email. “The musicianship was impeccable, and the energy of the performance was off the charts. That is when I knew for certain we needed that quality of a performance for our Macomb audience.” As a solo act, the rock ‘n’ roller performs about 50 dates per year. He’s currently doing shows at performing arts centers across the country, playing his own songs plus hits from Stray Cats. Along with the music, the evening includes footage and photos that highlight Rocker’s established career. “I’ll do some storytelling and talk about the songs and life on the road for 45 years,” the musician said. “A performing arts center is the best place for it. You can put up the video screens in the old theaters. It’s kind of more intimate, which I love.” With albums that include “Atomic Boogie Hour,” “Blue Suede Nights,” “Night Train to Memphis” and “Gather Round,” Rocker doesn’t miss a beat. While playing live, the artist is known to stand on his upright bass and spin it around. Carrying the large instrument everywhere has never been a problem.
“It’s not that heavy,” he said. “You’ve got to have balance.” Rocker owns about 15 stand-up basses, but just brings a few with him on tour. “Each one has different characteristics and different tones,” he said. The stage is home “bass” for Rocker, who grew up in a musical family in Long Island, New York. His dad, Stanley Drucker, was a clarinetist in the New York Philharmonic Orchestra for 61 years. His mom, Naomi Drucker, was a music teacher. “That’s what I want to do,” he thought after seeing the Rolling Stones perform on “Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert” as a kid in the 1970s. The teenager eventually hooked up with neighborhood pals Brian Setzer, on guitar, and drummer Slim Jim Phantom to become Stray Cats in 1979. “We’d rehearse in my parent’s garage and 200 kids would be in the driveway,” the bassist recalled. “We knew we were onto something.” With greased back hair and a retro vibe, Stray Cats were a throwback to the 1950s. In 1980, the trio moved to England and two years later released their first U.S. album, “Built for Speed.” Belting out songs like “Runaway Boys,” “She’s Sexy & 17” and “I Won’t See ROCKER on page 17A

Senior citizens can find long lost yearbooks online

herished memories come from receiving a yearbook on the last day of school and having friends and teachers sign it with personalized messages. Not only are they personal keepsakes of time spent in school, but they can also act as historical records for decades to come. Many local libraries and museums have taken the initiative to create online databases of their communities’ digital yearbooks.
Birmingham
Birmingham’s historical yearbook collection is now available online through the Birmingham Museum. Birmingham residents and history buffs can access the 19191929 issues for free. “People have been waiting to get a peek at our oldest yearbooks. They shed a light on what it was like to live in Birmingham in the early 20th century, and the world of teenagers back then,” Birmingham Museum
Director Leslie Pielack said in an email. “Flipping through our historic yearbook collection is a delightful glimpse of the young people, their educators, and their hopes and dreams. Especially at this time of year, many of us are reminded of the importance of family and our personal roots.” The museum’s school yearbook collection has been acquired over the last 50 years, including the first yearbook printed by Birmingham High School, in 1919. Through yearbooks, valuable information can be gathered by experts, including genealogists and local historians, as well as families conducting research of their own. “It gives a really good window into how life was back then,” Museum Assistant Justin Koch said. “One thing that I really find fascinating when I was flipping through these was 100 years ago, society was very different than it is today, but at the end of the day, teenagers are kind of the same as they were back then.” To make it easier on people looking for specific family members, the yearbook See YEARBOOKS on page 11A

WUJEK-CALCATERRA & SONS: Round-the-Clock Compassion since 1913
With 15 licensed funeral directors, totaling 350 years of combined experience, Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons is uniquely qualified to bring peace and comfort to grieving families in their time of need. And these aren’t ordinary funeral directors. Each one was specifically sought out by the Wujek and Calcaterra families based on their individual talents and expertise. Licensed funeral director Dominick Astorino, managing director at Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons, is honored to be a part of this exceptional team. “My colleagues and I are career professionals,” stated Astorino. “Most of us have been with Wujek-Calcaterra for over 20 years. We are dedicated to our career in a long-standing way. “We also have an excellent collection of younger funeral directors. As the embalming professor at Wayne State University School of Mortuary Science, I have taught many of them. I see their potential from the first day I meet them and watch them develop.” These devoted individuals represent a variety of religious and cultural backgrounds. They have formed enduring relationships with local families and the community. They are familiar with the neighborhood churches and have worked alongside their pastors. This allows them to connect with all types of families, putting them at
ease at a most difficult and overwhelming time. Furthermore, their compassion isn’t strictly confined to business hours. Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons is one of the few funeral homes in the area where there is someone present 24/7. According to Astorino, “We have never taken a day off since opening our original location in Detroit back in 1913. Christmas, holidays, brownouts, the worst snow storms – there has always been someone here to pick up the phone. We treat our families the way we would like to be treated. They never have to talk to an answering machine, and they know their loved one is never left unattended.” In addition to the 15 funeral directors, there is a support staff of 35 capable and compassionate individuals to complete the team at Wujek-Cacaterra & Sons. “We can serve all of our families, giving them everything they need – much like a personalized concierge.” From preplanning to aftercare services, Wujek-Calcaterra & Sons is available seven days a week, 365 days a year. They offer two welcoming locations: 36900 Schoenherr Road in Sterling Heights, phone (586) 588-9117; and 54880 Van Dyke Avenue in Shelby Township, phone (586) 217-3316. collection is searchable. Someone could type in their families name and be brought to the page where that name is listed. The museum’s collection is only missing a few issues from the early 20th century to the 1980s. Koch said he hopes that at some point they will be able to acquire the editions they are missing from the collection.
Rochester Hills
The Rochester Hills Public Library has a digital collection of resources for the community to browse through. “It gives us a snapshot of the history of our community,” said Hilary Maurin, the adult services librarian at Rochester Hills Public Library. “Our community, specifically, has always been very focused on education. So, especially those older yearbooks going back to the 1920s, it is so great to see the legacy of 100 years now that’s been going on with Rochester High School.” Maurin added that the digital versions make it easier to keep copies safe. They have had some celebrities come through the school system, so digital copies keep these photos preserved. For example, Madonna is featured in one of the yearbooks from her time in Rochester Hills, but it is no longer available because someone cut her photo out of the physical edition.
Royal Oak
The Royal Oak Public Library has a digital library of historical Kimball High School Lancer yearbooks from 1958-2006. With each vibrant cover on display, the books are easy to navigate and are full-text searchable. Yearbooks can also be downloaded for offline access. Susan Sheiner, the adult services librarian at the Royal Oak Public Library, said she has often found people looking for old classmates in these yearbooks, as well as relatives, to see what life was like when they graduated from high school. “I think it’s a way for people to connect with parts of their family history and do research on various historical moments,” Sheiner said.
Northville
Northville District Library has a large collection of yearbooks available online in a searchable format. They have historic yearbooks available for both high school and middle school. Laura Mancini, the director of the Northville District Library, said these yearbooks are a great way to see what the city and the people living in the city were like during specific moments in time. “Northville is a town that, you know, has a lot of local history to it. It’s a historic town, and people are very proud of their history and very interested in it. So we do have folks that regularly research Northville history, and we want to be a resource for them,” Mancini said. In addition to the libraries listed, there are several communities that have also offer these resources. Check your local library or historical society to find out.

Chippewa Valley’s DiBucci rolls 300 BY JONATHAN SZCZEPANIAK jszczepaniak@candgnews.com
CLINTON TOWNSHIP — Being a senior captain on a varsity squad can put pressure on a young athlete, especially when your team currently holds first in Macomb County’s toughest high school bowling league. But hitting a career milestone can certainly put some of the nerves on ice. During a MAC Red matchup between first-place Clinton Township Chippewa Valley and Macomb Dakota on Jan. 31 at Imperial Lanes, Chippewa Valley senior Owen DiBucci did what every competitive bowler dreams of — and sometimes waits a lifetime to achieve. Following a 222 in his first series, DiBucci, who’s been as reliable as they come for the Big Reds, rolled a 300 game in his final series, adding onto his already impressive high school resume. “It was electric,” DiBucci said. “I took a couple lanes to walk off because I was feeling myself, and once it struck everyone went wild.” DiBucci said he had the look he wanted in the first series, which led to his team-high 222 score early on.
Once he carried the momentum into the second series, DiBucci said he started to feel the adrenaline. “It wasn’t really until the seventh or eighth frame where my adrenaline was kicking and I was getting nervous,” DiBucci said. “It wasn’t until then that I was realizing, ‘Hey, I may have something good going here.’” DiBucci would handle the seventh, eighth, and ninth frame with ease, but once the tenth frame came up, all eyes were locked in on the Big Reds team captain. “I got to say, it was really quiet in there,” DiBucci said. “You could probably hear a pin drop. I went up in the tenth frame, and I came a little high on the first shot. I knew I had to make an adjustment off that, and I did just that. The second one came in nice. I was one shot away, so I just took a deep breath, took another sip of my water, and I pulled it a little in, but the ball held, and I struck.” Despite his masterful performance, Dakota would edge Chippewa Valley 16-14 on the night. Chippewa Valley currently holds a one game lead over Dakota and Utica Eisenhower in the MAC Red. Call Staff Writer Jonathan Szczepaniak at (586) 498-1090.

Township from page 1A
township. Cannon’s goal for Groesbeck is to direct long-term developments along it, and no development exemplifies this idea more than the mixed-use East Town Village development at the corner of Groesbeck and Elizabeth Road. “It’s going to have senior housing, single-family housing, apartments and commercial,” Cannon said. “And I understand now someone has purchased or is about to purchase Buck’s Garage and will reconvert that into a nice commercial area also, so we’re really pleased about that. It’s taken a long time because (developers) had a lot to do to get the property aligned for what they wanted to do, for we wanted to do and will support for them to do.” Garfield was Cannon’s next focus. He shined the spotlight on a new commercial complex at the intersection with 19 Mile Road, the Canteen Golf & Billiards golf simulator and entertainment business moving into the strip mall near Canal Road, and a gas station built to keep Kroger in its Canal and 19 Mile location. Cannon said the grocer was threatening to leave if it was not allowed to build the gas station. “Our choice was to move the gas station down a little bit, which we did,” Cannon said. “It looks very nice in there. We really did not need another gas station, but what do we need? We need Kroger, so they are staying and we’re happy about that.” Cannon’s tour of the township then took guests to Hall Road by featuring new tenants at the road’s malls. Partridge Creek picked up five new tenants including a Powerhouse Gym set to open in the old Carson’s space. The gym will be the mall’s new anchor and the largest Powerhouse Gym. Other highlights near Hall Road include the expansion of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital and the news of the Fifth Third Bank building going up for sale. Outside of business interests, Cannon discussed some government tasks like zoning enforcement, road projects and parks. Grants received by the township have allowed the township to build kayaking points along the Clinton River, while a new field for adult special needs baseball is being built at Neil Reid Park. Though Cannon is one of the key personalities on the Clinton Township Board of Trustees, clashes between the board’s personalities is a frequent occurrence. This clash of personalities and politics played out during the morning of Jan. 26 as Trustee Mike Keys opted to skip the speech for another event at the Clinton-Macomb Public Library’s South Branch, a pancake breakfast and food drive for the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 154. Keys’ counter event was in opposition to what he sees as an unfair level of support for the Macomb County Chamber compared to other nonprofits. “We, as a township, are using taxpayer resources to support a single nonprofit organization,” Keys said. “If these resources were open to any nonprofit that wanted to host a fundraiser every year, I don’t know that I would have the same objections.” One particular implication of the event Keys takes issue with is the use of township funds to buy tickets to the address. “This isn’t just about the township using our cable department, our supervisor’s department and every part of the administration to orchestrate a fundraiser for the chamber, but they’re also funneling taxpayer money directly from department budgets to the chamber,” Keys said. Keys criticized the arrangement as the chamber has a political action committee, calling the arrangement “one step removed” from when former Warren Mayor Jim Fouts used the State of the City address to fundraise for a PAC in 2016. Cannon briefly acknowledged Keys’ event and concerns in his opening remarks. He said the chamber’s “state of ” addresses are the only way for it to make money. “There is no other way for them to receive funds,” Cannon said. “This is their fundraiser. This is not a fundraiser for Clinton Township. This is not a fundraiser for anyone else, the library. It is a fundraiser for people we appreciate very much.” As for Keys’ event, Cannon told the audience he “considers that an insult and I apologize for it.” Keys had not seen the recording of Cannon’s address when contacted, but the trustee’s remarks about the township’s past year were no less positive than the supervisor’s. “I think that (in) the past year we’ve continued to gain momentum in the realm of trying to spread resources throughout our parks and access through our senior center,” Keys said. “On the horizon, I’m hopeful that it will look even better. As soon as we get another trustee elected and we have a full board, I think that is going to allow us to capitalize on a lot of investments that are to come.” Call Staff Writer Dean Vaglia at (586) 498-1043.

The craft show takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at Fraser High School, 34270 Garfield Road. Admission is $3 per person. Parking is free, but strollers are prohibited inside. Concessions will be offered, and a 50/50 raffle will take place. “The last couple years, we’ve had more than 2,000 customers come through the door each year,” said Agnew. “We are going to have 245 booths. There are probably about 200 crafters attending. They will have all kinds of things. We don’t have direct sales; everything is somehow created by the crafter themself. We have everything from wooden signs, crocheted towels, jewelry, soap, body lotion, tumblers, candles, tea and more.” The funds raised are used to further students’ musical education in a variety of ways. “The money is raised selling the booths to the crafters, the proceeds from the concession stand and the admission fees,” said Agnew. “The money is used for the band. The biggest thing is we pay for band camp in the summer. The band goes away for a week and this picks up the tab for the instructors and so forth. We also pay for instrument re-

Stand in Your Way,” their rockabilly sound struck a chord with audiences. Videos of the band rotated on MTV, and they ended up selling more than 10 million albums. The trio eventually broke up, and Setzer formed the Brian Setzer Orchestra without Rocker and Phantom. In the mid-1980s, the remaining two members recruited session guitarist Earl Slick to form the group Phantom, Rocker & Slick. When in the recording studio, they got Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards to play guitar on the single “My Mistake,” a moment Rocker will never forget. “Great guy and funny as hell,” he said of Richards. “Great musical instincts. It was awesome.” The band didn’t stay together, but Rocker continued performing and recording internationally. Because of his talent, he has had the thrill of working with many childhood music icons, including Carl “Blue Suede Shoes” Perkins, George Harrison, Ringo Starr and Eric Clapton. While Rocker cites countless influences that helped shape his musical chops, Willie Dixon left the deepest impact. “He was an incredible blues guy,” Rocker said. “I loved what he did. He’s the biggest influence on my playing.” Stray Cats will “make ‘em scream and shout” again in 2024; the band is planning a summer tour to celebrate its 45 years as a band. The threesome will meow their way across 20 cities in the U.S. so get ready to prance the “Stray Cat Strut.” “It’s like it never ended,” Rocker said of the band. “It’s a lifelong thing. It’s like having brothers.” Rocker is a member of the Long Island Music Hall of Fame. In 2013, he received a lifetime achievement award from Bass Player magazine. ser also got a new Little Library that will be refurbished in the spring. That money for both projects came out of our regular budget. We just like doing some little projects like that to benefit communities like Fraser.” Vania Apps, the founder of the Fraser First Booster Club, which helped found McKinley Barrier-Free Park, said that contributions like those made by the MOMS Club are invaluable. “We’re always excited to hear from groups that use McKinley Barrier-Free Park,”
she said. “It was always our hope that it would catch on within the Macomb County community. I’m glad to see they’re taking advantage of the part we worked so hard on. Then when they said they would raise some funds for something we wanted for a while, it was very helpful and rewarding. We put the bike rack in at the front of the park.” Foster said that they can often fly under the radar, but that moms from across the community are welcome if they want to get involved, seek support, or help support others.
“If you’re looking for your village and want to help your community, MOMS Club is a great way to socialize ourselves as well as our children in a safe space,” she said. “We do fun events, but we are first and foremost a support group for moms.” More information about the group is available at momssomaco.wixsite.com/home. We’ve done some park cleanups last year,” Foster said. “We reached out and tried to support moms struggling with postpartum depression and having a hard time socializing. I was having trouble raising a kid during COVID, so I know how important these efforts can be.” The donation total was for $969.10. The MOMS Club donated $600 in cash and $369.10 in needed baby supplies. “During the 2023 program year, the MOMS Club of Southern Macomb provided resources to our residents and community moms through their generous donations of baby essentials which included wipes, diaper genies, bed sheet sets, grooming kits and storage bins,” Gianna House Executive Director Joella Bush said in an email. “Not only did The MOMS Club help our moms feel loved, supported and cared for, but they also positively impacted our young mom’s self-worth, self-esteem and self-love. Gianna House is a not-for-profit organization that relies on community donations and the generosity of organizations like the MOMS Club who provide essentials to young women that will help them sustain healthy babies, decrease the infant mortality rate, and assist them in becoming productive members in their communities. Partnering with the MOMS Club of Southern Macomb has been an amazing experience and we are extremely grateful for their support.” The MOMS Club also takes on smallerscale projects to help people on a local level. “We raised the funds in November for the bike racks going in at McKinley BarrierFree Park this spring,” Foster said. “Fort Fra-
