Concept CONWAY’S Game of Life Rules This is the most famous cellular automata ever invented. This rule definition is very simple: a living cell remains alive only when surrounded by 1, 2 or 3 living neighbors, otherwise it dies of loneliness or overcrowding. A dead cell comes to life when it has exactly 2 or 3 neighbors.

Last CA Configuration

Reinforced Circulation

Performative SyntCax A Living Cell has only 2 states: Dead or Alive.A living cell remains alive only when surrounded 1, 2 or 3 living.Dead cell comes to life when it has exactly 2 or 3 neighbors. I add multiple points on the grid to specify a custom initial state for a set of cells. The points I add are the start points of the circulation.

Conclusions 1.Obsversition shows that the site in the big environment is too crowded, small and undervalued. 2.The California Science Center on the west side and the Science Shool at the north corner are very close to the site, which have negtive impacts on the site and make the site crowded. 3.The circulation and the interest points around the site are disorderly. They will mislead visitors.

Recommendations 1. To make the site an appropriate scale, the site should be scattered to reduce the negtive impact of surrounding buildings. 2. Most parts of the project could be undergroud or hang in the air to make the site less crowded. 3. A main road or a reinforced circulation need to plan through the site, which can guide the visitors.

02 Floating Cube Community Center Design

Site Section

Silver Lake, CA The project is located in Silver Lake bank, which is a very sensitive site both for the lake and the neighborhood around it. we take the lake as part of the community, creating the relationship between the neighborhood and the lake by an architecture method. It is more sustainable to attract people to the site and try to project the water spontaneously than keep it from people by fence.

Revised Relationship

As I studied the site section, our site was based on a big slope near the lake shore. I was trying to push the building all on the water so the function of the building can be more diversity and people will get a totally different experience of the lake.

05 Long Lasting Building in Urban Transformation 2012 International Student Competition on Open Building Beijing, China

Function Transformation With the increasing number of elderly people, omnibus basement, including general hospital, is more necessary. SO in our initial design, residencial area is in majority, along with medical treatment.

In 2050, the population of elderly people will rise up to top, about 30% of the total number. So the apertment will transform into residence. Medical treatment will be added at the same time.

The population of elderly people is decreasing rapidly in this period, the group of young people will increase, which will certainly bring vitality to this community. So office and commerce will be added.

After a long period of time, population of elderly people will drop to a low percentage. At this time, more and more available space needs to be filled up with viable function, eventually it becomes “All Age Community”.

Green Regenerative Methods by Using Resources Recycling In the long process of using a traditional house, it is difficult to reuse the waste produced by the transformation during second or later times, which results in more waste. At the end of a house’s lifetime, wasting of building materials happens during dismantling. From a view of resource recycling, supporting house can be recycled or reused on the functions and components after experiencing its life cycle. Supporting house consists of structure with high-durability body and filling part with changeable sewage. Therefore, in supporting houses, upper floor and lower floor can be settled by room layouts in different styles. What is more, when the house is no longer used as a living space because of age or other reasons, its function and layout can be changed. Office and commercial facilities are both good choices.

A sun-tracking instrument indexing time and temperature, “Bloom stitches together material experimentation, structural innovation, and computational form/patterningmaking into an environmentally responsive installation. The form’s responsive surface is made primarily out of 14,000 snart thermobimetal tiles, where no two pieces are alike. Each individual piece automatically curls a specified amount when the outdoor ambient temperature rises above 70F or when the sun penetrates the surface.

09 Bloom & Hex Sphere Research Assitant Project, dO|SU Los Angeles

The current step, more ambitious than the last, is to stitch the many aspects of thermobimetal together into a more comprehensive prototype. The direct application to architecture is unknown at this time, but the implications for high-performance buildings are tremendous. It is part of what is called a bottoms-ups approach, championed by figures like Paul MacCready, who designed the first human-powered flight machine called the Gossamer Condor. When critics asked why he bothered to invent something so impractical, the aeronautical engineer insisted that inventing anything even if impractical spawned something critically important: a new way of thinking about the world. But when it is done, the product will mesh art with technology, architecture with science, aesthetics with engineering ,raising new questions and spawning new ideas.
