Chad Clady November 7, 2008 Anthony Quick Write Period 4 Another argument made by Anthony is that the educated have the responsibility to vote because they are the ones that are most capable of making a difference. Defining her view on this responsibility Anthony suggests that “it might be acceptable for the educated to be given more rights and privileges by society than the ignorant or uneducated.” Anthony believed that the right to vote should not be determined by petty issues such as gender or race, but rather on the intelligence of the voter and their capability of making wise decisions. The most basic right given to all citizens is the blessing of liberty that provides citizens the right to vote which is “the only means of securing [the rights] provided by this democratic-republican government,” according to Anthony. Anthony so desperately wanted the right that was secured to her through the Constitution of the United States that she went through drastic measures, such as actually voting in a presidential election, which eventually led to her imprisonment. Through Anthony’s countless hours of passionate work, she was able to lead a revolution that called for equal rights that allowed people to exercise their right and responsibility to vote with an educated and wellinformed mind.
