Site history

Fig 1. Historic map taken from digimaps of the site during 1890s. The map shows that the site was aurrounded by industrial warehouses. Salford in has a history of industry, mainly in textiles, of which pre dates the industrial revolution.

The railway viaduct, built 1865, connects Salford Central staion, located on New Bailey street, to Manchester Victoria station. The viaduct occupies the west of the site, with New Bailey street passing underneath the viaduct via bridge. Engineered by Sturges Meek. Doric collumns hold the structure, of which too encorpriates steel panelled parapet and steel beams. Fig 2. Historic photograph taken on New Bailey street. Shown on the above historic map, New Bailey street is in the surrounding area to the site, too providing access to the site.

Figure 3 presents a contemporary map of the site and surrounding area. the blue triangles represent the listed buildings. The map shows that several listed buildings surround the proximity of the site. The closest listing to the site is the Grade II listed viaduct, this is shown to the left of the red line boundary of fig.3, by three blue triangles. In addition, this map too shows that the three bridges near to the site location are too listed.
