is a colloquial term used for police-station. The project was introduced as a competition by the police officials with an objective to make police-stations people friendly by reinterpreting its experiential qualities. Ideally, it deals with people who walk in to file a report, people who are kept in the lock-up for a temporary period of time till declared guilty and people who work as officials in the police-station for a longer duration.

A design problem that focuses on the study of proxemics and anthropometry. It is an optimum dwelling designed for any two unrelated people. In this situation it becomes important to keep in mind one’s personal space and comfort zone with respect to the study of proxemics. Therefore, the design focuses on segregating as well as combining spaces in order to create private and shared zones.

IDENTITY

We all wander from places to phases in order to find our untraversed identity. In search of something unconventional, we sometimes tend to neglect the existing. That is when the question arises - ARE WE EVOLVING OR CHANGING? This is a blurred reality with no clarity. Architectural identity has evolved from fortification to glass enclosures, contextual to global, with not much in common. If the space between these were to become physically present, what would it look like? We are the ones defining our paths, voids and distances. In between the chaos of transition and calmness of destination, lies the questionARE WE EVEN FINDING OUR DESTINATION OR JUST MEANDERING AROUND? So let’s enter this labyrinth that combines our past with present, existing in both yet none at the same time.

1% Are waste and abandoned a by-product of progress? Humans have replaced nature’s endless cycling and recycling of materials with a system of one-way flows, which directly causes a result that does not exist in natural system; w a s t e . People’s attitude towards garbage is largely negative therefore wastelands tend to spill outwards and continue to grow. The brief calls for transforming such marginalised spaces into responsive open spaces. Keeping that in mind our target site is a LANDFILL in Daddumajra colony of Chandigarh. As bad as the condition of the site is, the situation is much worse. The negative impacts of the landfill can be felt in the enviornment and by the people living in the surrounding areas. The rate of migration is steadily rising as more and more people are moving out. The locals experience a strong sense of alienation and abandonment due to indifference of officials and residents of the city alike.

THE DESIGN
People need an identifiable spatial unit to belong to. Using the principle of place-making, morphogenesis aims to transform the periphery between the landfill and the colony by reinterpreting waste. The intervention unfolds in 3 parts- Peripheral Buffer, Vertical Scaping and Recreational Area. The buffer aims at absorbing leachate using the trees like poplar and neem which helps in resorting degraded soil. The vertical-scaping has been proposed on the vacant wasteland lying inside the boundary of the landfill. The recreational area includes a central parametric sculpture, which induces the idea of place-making and the other intervention is a red parametric seating designed in relation to the site and creates a strong contrast with the surroundings.
