Isaiah 10:27 –“It shall come to pass in that day that his burdens will be taken away from your shoulder, and his yoke from your neck, and the yoke will be destroyed because of the anointing.”
Jesus is the Christ. The Greek word Christ means “the Anointed One.” And since Isaiah 10:27 tells us the yoke of the devil is destroyed by the anointing, we don’t have to run scared when the devil comes against us, our loved ones, or our nation. We can put him to flight with the blood of the Lamb, the Word of our testimony and the yokedestroying Anointing of Jesus Christ Himself!
That is what Jesus expects us to do. He has already taken care of every kind of trouble that could ever come to the human family when He was put on the Cross, raised from the dead, and glorified at the right hand of the Father. He spoiled the principalities and powers of darkness. He triumphed over them and made an open show of them – Colossians 2:15 ‘Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”. He stripped the devil of every vestige of power. – every fragment –
of power.
Jesus has done His part. He has taken back the devil’s authority over the earth and He has given it to us. Just before He ascended to heaven He said, “All au-
one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool”. (Hebrews 10:12-13)
He expects us to stand up during the storms of life and dominate those storms with faith-filled words. He expects to look sickness and lack and terror in the face and say, “You get under my feet in the Name of Jesus!”
thority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to see all things I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Mathew 28:18-20).
He delegated His power and authority to us – His Church – then “ after He had offered
I realize you may not feel like you can do that today. You may be facing the greatest struggle of your life. It may really be hard right now. But, regardless of how you feel, if you’re a born-again child of God, you can do it because the Bible says, “...for whoever is born of God overcomes the world, and the victory that overcomes the world is our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world, but the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1John 5:4-5)
You are destined to overcome. You have that anointing – the Anointed One – existing on the inside of you if you are born again. Stir up that anointing. Stand up during the storm. Speak to it with all the power and authority that’s been given to you.
If you’ll do that, you’ll dominate the storm and put the devil on the run!
On their shoulders we stand today.
Pastor Jeremiah Steepek (pictured) transformed himself into a homeless person and went to the 10,000 member church that he was to be introduced as the head pastor at that morning. He walked around his soon to be church for 30 minutes while it was filling with people for service….only 3 people out of the 7 10,000 people said hello to him. He

As he sat in the back of the church, he listened to the church announcements and such. When all that was done, the elders went up and were excited to introduce the new pastor of the church to the congregation……..”We would like to introduce to you Pastor Jeremiah Steepek”….The congregation looked around clapping with joy and anticipation…..The homeless man sitting in the back stood up…..and started walking down the aisle…..the clapping stopped with ALL eyes on him….he walked up the altar and took the microphone from the elders (who were in on this) and paused

After he recited this, he looked towards the congregation and told them all what he had experienced that morning…many began to cry and many heads were bowed in shame…. he then said….Today I see a gathering of people……not a church of Jesus Christ. The world has enough people, but not enough disciples…when will YOU decide to become disciples? He then dismissed service until next week…….Being a Christian is more than something you claim. It’s something you live by

runoff with 73.7% of the vote. Lightfoot is running for re-election to a second term in office against a wide field of nine challengers that includes members of the Chicago City Council, Illinois House of Representatives, and U.S. House of Representatives.
Lightfoot's administration has faced criticism due to rising crime rates in Chicago and accusations of covering up police misconduct. During her first term, she has clashed with members of the Chicago City Council, the Chicago Teachers Union, and Illinois governor J.B. Pritzker's administration. The New York Times remarked that she has an "uncanny ability to make political enemies." On the other hand, Lightfoot has received praise for her efforts to build affordable housing, repair dilapidated areas of the city, and raise the minimum wage.
The election is officially nonpartisan, with its winner being elected to a four year term. It is part of the 2023 Chicago elections, which include concurrent elections for City Council, city clerk, and city treasurer.

8. Roderick Sawyer, Chicago City Council 6th Ward Since 2011.
9. Paul Valias, Chief Executive Officer of Chicago Public Schools 1995 2001. Candidate for mayor in 2019.
10. Willie Wilson, Founder, Medical Supplies Company. Recurring candidate. The Rev. Dr. Harold E. Bailey, president of the Probation Challenge PCC Network, sponsor of a previous mayoral debate, brought to the Chicago Saint Paul Church of God in Christ’ an audience of people hungry for a change in government. Bailey said, “Once again in 2023, the people are lacking and have not been nourished. He said, Taxpayers have all but lost hope for constructive change, and every day they lose family members, friends, and acquaintances to the elements of crime.”
Rev. Bailey with an exceptional record of educationally saving youth from the criminal justice system, said that the frayed city by the beautiful Lake Michigan is in a spiritual warfare, and that this election will determine if Chicagoans are resilient to stand against the principalities, rulers, powers, and against the forces of darkness, said the minister.
Chicago, IL: It angers me that every day I have to read yet another black teenage boy has been shot and killed, and my heart pains when reading about our babies being caught in the crossfires of gang warfare or shot to death while sitting with a parent in a McDonald drive thru.
But it s happening in Chicago and across the nation including ringing in Chicago s New Year with the shooting of 9 year old Jarvis Watts who was in his own Princeton Park home when bullets shattered his window killing the child.
Just three days into the New Year, five teens were shot the start of a trend we saw last year where at least 286 children were killed. Bullets don t discriminate when shooters pick up weapons of mass destruction for their own self serving agendas. It seems as though these shooters feel packing a gun is part of their wardrobe.
One of their victims was three year old Mateo Zastro who was riding in the car with his brother when a road rage incident erupted. During the shootout, baby Mateo was killed, and who can forget about 7year old Jaslyn Adams who was fatally shot while she was with her father sitting in a West Side McDonald drive thru.
The killing of our children continues in 2023, and I cant help wondering where are the parents? Few people want to talk about parental responsibilities of their bad children. We are all too quick to point fingers at them mayor or the police chief and even sometimes at the Governor, but they didn t lay down and have our children. We did. The blame and the blood of innocent children are primarily on our hands.
You cant blame away the blood that stains our streets. You cant blame away dead children killed before their dreams of success are achieved because the problem starts in our homes.
When you see your teenage son or daughter coming home in a new car, an expensive car, and you don t open your mouth, to me, you are an accessory to that crime. When you see your child coming home with designer clothes and they are not working, you might as well have been with
them when they broke into one of the highend Magnificent Mile stores. You see, silence is acceptance.
And that is a huge problem especially in the Black community where too many leaders want to point fingers at the mayor and the controversial police superintendent. Again, they did not give birth to your criminally engaged children.
The Chicago Police Department released their 2022 crime stats which claimed a
decline by 27.37 percent. Citywide, they say the number of murders is lower than in 2020, 2021 and 2016.
“
Over the course of this past year, the Chicago Police Department has made great strides in our communities by talking and working with residents to grow trust, build relationships, and enhance public safety,” said CPD Supt. David O. Brown.
“The consistent patterns of reductions in gun violence shows that were making a difference, but it also serves as a reminder that we can t let up, he said.
But there remains a lack of trust between the black community and the mostly white Chicago Police Department. Many have called for more black policemen and an appeal to lawmakers to pass The Protect Illinois Communities Act.
A rally was held in Springfield Thursday, January 5, 2023, led by the survivors of the Highland Park 2022 Fourth of July parade massacre. Ashley Beasley is one of the survivors.
tenth consecutive month of double digit decline in gun violence. According to the Chicago Police Department, December of 2022, shootings were down 20.3 percent for the year and the number of shooting victims down by 20.6 percent.
Reportedly, 20 of the Chicago Police Department s 22 districts have recorded less shootings in 2022 than in 2021, and citywide, there was a 13.56 percent decline in murders compared to 2021.
Police officials say 2022 ended with the sixth lowest year of overall crimes since 19o 6 5 with robberies being the fourth lowest since 1965, burglaries the second lowest since 1965, and thefts the third lowest in 50 years.
On murders in Chicago, police say they along with shootings re also down in the top 55 beats where more than half of the city s violent crime occurs.
They attribute that to their use of targeted precision deployments to enhance public safety, responsible for the reduction of shootings by 31.08 percent and murders
She has turned her pain, her nightmare of being shot into a life of activism saying it has been a huge part of therapy and an opportunity to fight for an end to the sale of automatic weapons.
She was on one of three buses that went to Springfield including Father Michael L. Pfleger Saint Sabina who has also declared war against the music industry he blames for the rise in gun violence.
Father Pfleger announced his declaration of war against the war on the music industry on Sunday, January 1, 2023, during his first worship service of the year. He s tired of white people paying black rappers to denigrate African American women and instructing our youth to go out and shoot and kill human beings. s time out for that, Father Pfleger told his congregation.
Father Pfleger made his remarks while announcing that on Saturday, February 11th, at the United Center, former and active Jesse White Tumblers and communities across Illinois will celebrate the sixth “iteration of Spending Time With Our Father, according to organizers.
The event is an initiative created under The Continue on page 11.

Some of those invited include the Grammyaward nominated/winning Illinois performers and international artists. The theme is, Bra Fie, Ghanian Twi which means, Come home.
Proceeds from this event will go to The Jesse White Tumbling Team, Inc, a (501 (c) 3) to expand and develop partnerships with organizations that serve disproportionately impacted communities.
The 40 organizations being acknowledged at this event are organization's that work to honor veterans, serve at risk youth, assist youth in distress, advocate restorative justice via entrepreneurship and education, provide mentorship and alternative programs to address gun violence, provide first response initiatives, provide shelter and food for homeless, provide mental and physical health services.
Father Pfleger told his congregation initially controversial Chief Keef was supposed to be one of the speakers at this event, but organizers had a change of heart because they decided they didn t like what Chief Keef brings, he said. Instead, they invited Saint Sabina s youth leader, Joseph Saunders
Saying he isn t hating on Chief Keef, Father Pfleger said it s time out for rich, white people to pay black brothers and sisters to denigrate women calling them bitches and ho and instructing youth to shoot and/or assassinate people through their dark lyrics.
s time out for that, he told his cheering members. The companies are getting ready to go to war; so we have to get ready to go to war, too, said Pfleger.
A war against gangsta rap, or drill music, has been attempted many times including when C. Delores Tucker former Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, took a lot of heat from the media and music industry executives for publicly opposing gangsta rap. A music industry executives hired detectives to dirty up her name. She vowed to fight gangsta rap until the day she died. She passed on October 12, 2005, at the age of 78.
In February of 1994 then freshman Democratic Senator Carol Moseley Braun held a hearing on about gangsta rap where rappers called women bitches and hos.” She felt the lyrics incited people to violence. As it is now, back then people were blaming gangsta rap for the rise in crime.
One of those who testified in favor of gangsta rap was Michael Eric Dyson, then professors not to use rappers as scapegoats. He told Senator MoseleyBraun’s committee, Gangsta rappers are an easy target, and we ought to dismiss the easy target,” Dyson told reporters before the hearing began. We should be having a hearing on crime and on economic misery…and why America is seduced by and addicted to violence.
Many blacks including Rev. Paul Jakes, pastor of New Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church, and activist Roman Morrow, back in August of 2021, blamed gangsta rap, or drill music as they called it, on the rise of violence including murder, drug dealing and womanizing many say is common in inner city life.
Gangsta rap has had a long history in the music industry including with Ice s song, Cop Killer,” where he rapped about a young man seeking revenge on a police officer who allegedly had been harassing him. And then there were the lyrics of Sister Souljah who urged blacks to stop killing each other and instead kill white people.
While Jakes and Morrow had sought legislative answers to end drill music, during Senator Moseley Bran s hearing, Errol James, 22, a self described poet and rapper from Harlem, told the committee members, You can't legislate hip hop. Hip hop started in the streets, and hip hop will stay in the streets.
Back in the 1990’s, Minister Louis Farrakhan held a meeting with black rappers in his home. This reporter was present when they told the Minister they had to sing the lyrics given to them by white producers or they wouldn t get paid.
Father Pfleger said music during the civil rights era served to energize the fight for justice and equality, but gangsta rap encourages youth to shoot and kill. s time out for that, he said declaring war on the today s music industry and is ready to take this issue to the streets.
And then there are the burglaries like the recent one at a Lincoln Park store where a carload of youth broke into the store and grabbed armfuls of merchandise. It s called smash and grab, but these acts of crime are driving businesses out of Chicago. It is also a national problem that is likely organized.
When I hear about these thefts, it reminds me of what my maternal grandfather had to endure. He owned several incomeproducing properties, a cleaner, a pool hall and a grocery store. While he didn t have to worry about gangbangers robbing him, he had to pay off policemen and building department workers just to stay in business. I m told that was called the black tax and both criminal acts are wrong.
I pray for an end to gun violence. I pray that lawmakers both state and federal find the courage to pass anti automatic gun laws, and I pray that the black genocide will end in 2023. Will you join me in those prayers?
appointed to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Kyra Harris Bolden, a Democratic House representative for Michigan’s 35th district, will be appointed to the bench in the state’s highest court in January. It is Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s first Supreme Court appointment since taking office in 2019. Bolden will replace Justice Bridget Mary McCormack, who will retire at the end of the year.
“Kyra brings a perspective, and an aptitude, a temperament, and an unwavering commitment to the law to the bench. And I think that she will make us all very proud here in Michigan,” Whitmer said at a press conference announcing Bolden’s appointment late last month.
The announcement comes on the heels of Bolden’s unsuccessful election bid for the court in November. She was defeated by Democrat incumbent Justice Richard Bernstein and Republican incumbent Justice Brian Zahra.
“For years, a Black woman’s experiences and perspective have been absent from our state’s highest court,” Bolden said at the Nov. 22 press conference. “To the countless Black women upon whose shoulders I stand, who, like my own mother and grandmother, instill in our community the core responsibilities of honesty, empathy and justice, I promise that I will honor our experience from this new vantage point.”
Who is Kyra Harris Bolden?
Bolden,
hus-
Murphy in Wayne County and a civil litigation attorney at Lewis & Munday. She also served as a courtappointed criminal defense attorney for the 46th District Court of Southfield.
The soon-to-be judge earned her bachelor’s degree from Grand Valley State University and a juris doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. Bolden is a member of various bar associations, including the Black Women Lawyers Association of Michigan and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and the National Congress of Black Women.
In a recent interview, Bolden said she chartered her path to a legal career while studying psychology at Grand Valley. While an undergraduate student, Bolden’s greatgrandmother told her about her great-grandfather, Jesse Lee Bond’s lynching in the 1930s.
band, Dr. Greg Bolden, and their daughter, Emerson Portia Bolden. She is currently serving her second term in Southfield as a state representative, who dedicated some of her work in the Michigan Legislature to criminal justice reform. Bolden has pushed legislation that allows medical frail people to seek parole and protects sexual and domestic violence victims and for a revision of the state’s Wrongful Imprisonment Compensation Act.
Before being elected to the statehouse in 2018, Bolden was a judicial clerk for Judge John A.
Bond was shot and castrated. His body was dragged behind a truck to the Loxahatchee River, where it was dumped after he demanded a receipt at an Arlington, Tennessee, store in April 1939.
Authorities found his body five days later. His death was ruled an accidental drowning. Bond’s funeral drew protests, and two white men, the store’s owner and his friend were formally charged but later acquitted. Bolden said the injustice inspired her to go to law school.
“I will ensure equal access to justice, apply the law without fear or favor, and treat all who come before our state’s highest court with dignity and respect,” Bolden said in a statement.
Chicago: After reviewing my book Police, Prisons, Politics and Power, I have found it necessary to redress the chapter referring to The Positive Anti-Crime Thrust, Inc. and it's collaborative community-based organizations. We created a work umbrella, named P.R.A.Y. (prison reform advocacy yardstick). Our synergized strategic programs, specifically those which took us inside the various prison facilities, placed us squarely in the face of the I.D.O.C. (Illinois Department of Corrections). That work was so enormous and compelling, that the book ‘The Criminal Just Us System’ could barely cover the work of Rev. Harold E. Bailey and others from Probation Challenge alone.
I must now decide soon, if a revised chapter will be sufficient enough to just mention the work of Bennett (Benny) Lee, Rev. Helen Sinclair and our dear departed brother, Prince Asiel Ben-Israel, to name just a few. That said, the PCC broadcast, and The Challenge News Magazine are so critical, as we attempt to weigh in on this Spiritual Warfare that seems to engulf our families and communities at this time in our history in America. I find myself in constant daily prayer for each of us. Peace! Howard Saffold.
Reformer Howard Saffold was born January 26, 1941, in Chicago. Upon graduating from high school, he joined the U.S. Army. Saffold earned his B.S. degree in business administration from Chicago State University and his M.A. degree in urban studies from Northeastern Illinois University. Saffold worked as an expediter for the regional office of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs before joining the Chicago Police Department in 1965. In 1968, he joined the Afro-American Police League, serving as president during a successful racial discrimination suit against the Chicago Police Department. Saffold cofounded Positive Anti-Crime Thrust to promote cooperation between police and the communities they serve. When Harold Washington became mayor in 1983, one of his first official acts was to name Saffold chief of executive security.
After retiring from the Chicago Police Department he became CEO of the Positive AntiCrime Thrust, working to stem the flow of young Black men into the penal system.

In this 21st Century, there seems to be a growing tendency to lie.
A Lying tongue is not limited to politics and lawyers but happenings in general conversation with people. Merely for the sake of stating things that are not, seems to embellish the liars intentions.

Proverbs 6:16-19. There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father's desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has nothing to do with the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. But because I tell the truth, you do not believe me. Which one of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me? Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.”

1 Corinthians 6:9-11. Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

With all the insane occurrences in these Not So United States, Congressional authority should mandate a firm look at Minorities and the U.S. Prisons? Mind you, prison reappraisal should take place at the same time the nation places emphases on the possibilities of Donald J. Trump facing imprisonment.
Most U.S. citizens are aware as to the alleged criminal activities of the once president Donald Trump, in and out of the White House. If this man escapes the sentence of prison, this declaration will heard around the world that there is absolutely no justice in the United States.
If Donald J. Trump is found guilty and sentence to prison, there will be joyfulness by both Minorities and Whites, however, prison retaliations is expected from bigots and White Supremist, who are Trump supporters and hold administrative and guard positions in the various prisons. Caucasians usually run the prisons, and some are likely to have a spirit of malice, while sources reported that Black people will suffer dire consequences as an act of retaliation for the Trump imprison-
ment. Connecting the political dots, Trumps fragments of money will continue behind the walls of confinement.
Congressional committees should be on the alert while making sure that no criminal acts occurs behind the prison walls as the result of the Trump sentence or imprisonment.
Minorities have suffered a greater infraction than any segment that Trump is charged, and Blacks have had swift turn arounds after being sentence on a bus to prison! But then again the powers that be are not swift to render a decision in the Trump matters as with Minorities and underprivileged whites.
Regrettably, often there are disharmonies in the law, which often smacks of a thing call racism. We trust this Donald J. Trump sentence will not carry the stench of bigoty.
Minorities, would be wise to continue getting an education and by all means, avoid any involvement with the criminal justice t fall into the hands of those who would plant drugs into the community for the sake of entrapment of Minorities. Open your eyes to what is really happening in the United States.
Currently, there is not one universally accepted definition of elder abuse. Legal definitions vary from state to state, and different researchers, government agencies, and non-profit organizations often have their own sets of criteria for defining elderly abuse. However, many basic definitions are like this one:
Elder abuse is any action or inaction that harms, endangers, or causes distress to a person over the age of 60 or 65 and is done intentionally by someone who is known to the victim and in a position of trust.
Crimes like burglary, street robbery, and assault by strangers are not considered elder abuse. But physical assault by a family member, neighbor, or caregiver is considered elder abuse if it happens to a senior. Neglect is also frequently considered a form of elder abuse, as is sexual assault, psychological mistreatment, and financial exploitation when there is an expectation of trust between the victim and perpetrator.
How many seniors experience elder abuse? Nobody really knows. Estimates vary since certain actions may be considered elder abuse according to some definitions but not according to others. Plus, the defined age for elder abuse victims varies: Some agencies and researchers say that anyone fifty-five or older can experience elder abuse, whereas others peg the age at 60, 65, or 70 and older. In addition, it is believed that for every case of elder abuse that gets reported, several more are never brought to light.
Even so, an article in The Lancet Global Health estimates that about 1 in every 10 older Americans experience elder abuse. Worldwide, the rate is estimated to be about 1 in every 6 older people. Among seniors who are ill or disabled, the rate is even higher. For example, the National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA) says that depending on the study, between 27.5 percent and 55 percent of seniors who have dementia are estimated to suffer from elder neglect or abuse.
The consequences of elder abuse can be costly and far-reaching. In America alone, elder abuse causes so many injuries that it may be personally responsi-
ble for more than $5 billion in medical costs each year.
How Many Types of Elder Abuse Are There?
Elder abuse can take several different forms. And some seniors experience multiple kinds of abuse at the same
pense of a victim's livelihood or wellbeing. Perpetrators often get their victims to trust them by using deception or providing offers of help that are based on false pretenses. They also may use scare tactics or make wildly overstated claims to get seniors to give them money or hand over control of their assets. Many swindles involve telemarketing, but most financial abuse is conducted by people that seniors already know and trust, such as family members and service professionals.
Neglect: This type of abuse happens when a vulnerable senior is deprived of essential necessities like food, water, medical treatment, proper clothing, or a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment. Neglect in the elderly is often intentional, perpetrated to exert power, push a senior toward an earlier death, or coerce a senior into signing away his or her financial assets. But neglect can also happen unintentionally because of caregiving failures caused by factors like improper training, a lack of resources, or mental or physical problems that impact a caregiver's ability to do his or her job.
time. Here are seven types of elder abuse that are among the most reported:
Financial exploitation: Also known as financial abuse, this type of mistreatment can involve frauds, fraud, coercion, theft, or improper use of a senior's money, property, or other valuable resources. It affects about 1 in 18 cognitively healthy, non-institutionalized seniors every year. However, the prevalence rate among all seniors may be much higher than that. Financial exploitation of an elderly person is any intentional act in which a perpetrator improperly reaps financial benefits at the ex-
Emotional abuse: Also known as psychological abuse, this kind of mistreatment harms a senior's mental health. Perpetrators may ridicule, humiliate, blame, yell at, or threaten their victims. Or they may employ more passiveaggressive tactics like shunning their victims, holding back affection, or remaining silent and disinterested in the face of pleas for help or attempts at reconciliation. Emotional abuse is sometimes used to bully and pressure a senior into doing something that is against his or her wishes or best interests.
Physical abuse: Willful infliction of bodily pain or injury can happen to almost any senior, especially a vulnerable elder. Physical abuse can take many forms: Pushing, slapping, punching, choking, kicking, pulling hair, and burning are just a few examples. It can also take the form of a perpetrator inappropriately restraining or imprisoning a victim. And some perpetrators of physical abuse give their victims incorrect or improper doses of medications, which Continue on page 22.

can lead to harmful (and sometimes fatal) side effects.
Sexual abuse: Some seniors are raped, molested, or forced to participate in activities of a sexual nature without their consent. Even a conversation about sex can be considered abusive if a senior is uncomfortable or unwilling to engage in the discussion and cannot get out of the situation. Sexual abuse also happens to seniors who are not capable of giving consent, such as those who have dementia or other conditions that make them mentally or physically incapacitated.
Abandonment: Many people consider abandonment to be a form of neglect. Indeed, it could be classified as extreme elderly neglect. It goes beyond family estrangement. Perpetrators will intentionally desert vulnerable seniors who depend on their care, leaving them with little or no assistance often for long stretches of time. Abandonment can erode a senior's health and well-being; it can even lead to premature death. Some perpetrators have taken their victims to entirely different states and abandoned them in completely unfamiliar places where they have no support.
Rights abuse: Some seniors are denied their basic legal rights. For example, in an institution like a nursing home, abuse of this nature can involve ignoring a vulnerable senior's requests for information or blocking his or her attempts at making official complaints. It can also involve denying proper health care, social activities, privacy, or access to one's money or possessions.
Self-neglect is also a form of elder mistreatment. However, in the case of self-neglect, there is no outside perpetrator; affected seniors cause harm to themselves. They may ignore their own basic needs or even refuse essential care, which
can lead to new or worsening illnesses or injuries. In some cases, self-neglect is fatal. But it is not always caused by mental or physical decline.
Many seniors are poor or socially isolated, do not have the resources to meet all their basic needs, and do not know where to find help, which means they must make tough choices. For instance, they may go without heat to pay for food and medication. Or they may deny themselves essential medications to stay warm.
How do I report elder abuse or abuse of an older person or senior?
Call the police or 9-1-1 immediately if someone you know is in immediate, life-threatening danger.
If the danger is not immediate, but you suspect that abuse has occurred or is occurring, please tell someone. Relay your concerns to the local adult protective services, long-term care ombudsman, or the police.
If you have been the victim of abuse, exploitation, or neglect, you are not alone. Many people care and can help. Please tell your doctor, a friend, or a family member you trust, or call the Eldercare Locator help line immediately.
You can reach the Eldercare Locator by telephone at 1-800677-1116. Specially trained operators will refer you to a local agency that can help. The Eldercare Locator is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
The laws in most states require helping professions in the front lines such as doctors and home health providers to report suspected abuse or neglect. These professionals are called mandated reporters. Under the laws of eight states, "any person" is required to report a suspicion of mistreatment.
Here are some services that a home caregiver for the elderly can provide to a loved one:
1. Make a Care Plan: A care plan addresses your clients’ care needs and goals.
As a caregiver, you can prepare a care plan to help you determine how many hours of care a day your client will need.
2. Assist with Basic Need: As your loved one ages, It is difficult for them to perform day-to-day tasks. Even simple things like brushing, bathing, dressing can become tiresome. As a caregiver, you can assist in performing their daily activities.
3. Prepare a Meal: Preparing meals can be difficult for senior citizens if they live alone. In some cases, cooking may be unsafe for them due to memory and balance issues. As a
caregiver, you can help them prepare meals and grocery shopping or choose an alternative to ensure that one gets proper nutrition.
4. Transportation: Transportation is a big concern for senior citizens. Instead of relying on themselves to get to and from appointments, or stores, many senior adults prefer to take the help of a caregiver. Public transportation is not safe for your aged one. As a caregiver, You need to choose an alternative for them.
5. Medication Support: Seniors often take several prescription medications for their chronic treatment. It is very important to monitor their medication lists and understanding the drug consumption. Being a home caregiver, you can monitor their medication to reduce the risk of serious issues accompanying the improper use of medications.
