SelectUSA Summit 2023

Cork Chamber works to build and maintain relations with investment and trade institutions in the US to aid our members in growing their businesses across America. In May, CEO Conor Healy represented Cork Chamber at the SelectUSA Global Investment Summit in Washington DC. The 50-person strong delegation of Irish businesses and organisations was again led by H.E. US Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin this year. The SelectUSA Summit is the highest-profile event in the US dedicated to promoting inward investment and the only event where representatives from all 50 states come together to showcase the benefits of expanding into their State.

Paul Nolan, President Waterford Chamber; Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, Minister of State at the Department of Finance; Conor Healy, CEO Cork Chamber; Claire Cronin US Ambassador to Ireland; Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ambassador of Ireland to the United States; Kenny Deery, CEO Galway Chamber and Sinéad Ronan, Public Affairs Manager, County Kildare Chamber.

With each state represented in the one location it allows for great insight into the various investment propositions open to Irish businesses looking to the USA. It also provides the opportunity of connecting Cork with those locations in the US where we already have strong investment relationships through the great work of the IDA Ireland and Cork Chamber extensive network fostered through the years. The breakout sessions led by policy and industry experts were designed to provide practical information to companies considering investing in the US on relevant topics such as developing a workforce to site selection. While the morning plenary sessions provide a macro view of the current economic and labour conditions from Governors and senior Federal Government Officials.

As ever, Irish Ambassador to the US Geraldine Byrne Nason and her Embassy Team provided an outstanding welcome and support to the visiting delegation. While Enterprise Ireland, led by CEO Leo Clancy and his US based colleagues, are always on hand to support clients participating on the mission. Ambassador Byrne Nason’s welcome reception offered the opportunity to meet with delegates and representatives such as Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey who has strong Cork family links.

It was great to see colleagues from the Chambers Ireland network represented on the delegation with colleagues from Galway Chamber, County Kildare Chamber, Waterford Chamber, Dublin Chamber and the American Chamber of Commerce Ireland delivering a very positive message of Irish innovation and investment opportunities.

The US Embassy Ireland’s SelectUSA Team undertake a massive amount of work to ensure that that all runs smoothly throughout the week for the Irish delegation. Cork Chamber will continue to work with The US Embassy to promote investment opportunities in the US.
