Dear Friend, Last week, I delivered my annual State of the City address on Church Street. I took the address “on the road” to showcase the exciting era of transportation beginning in Central Florida, starting with the launch of SunRail in just a few days. SunRail is Central Florida’s first commuter rail line and will provide an alternative to congested roadways and rising gas prices. The first phase opens May 1 and you will have the opportunity to ride for free from May 1 through May 16. Thanks to our community’s determination and willingness to work together, SunRail is now a reality. Already, we are creating jobs, spurring development and paving the way for enhanced public transit throughout our community. On April 10, Lynx launched its new Grapefruit LYMMO line, which will provide SunRail riders with another way to easily connect with destinations throughout our Downtown. Parking enhancements are also on the way and by the end of 2014, we will install more than 1,000 smart meters that accept debit and credit cards at all on-street public parking spaces throughout Downtown. The carshare program, which launched this past fall, provides SunRail riders with a connection to hourly car rental service. A bikeshare program, which is expected to begin service by the end of 2014, will connect to existing transit like LYMMO and SunRail and provide another affordable transportation option. SunRail is part of a whole new era of transit for the region. I encourage you to take advantage of SunRail and the other new transportation options and experience their comfort, ease and cost savings. Sincerely,
Buddy Dyer Mayor

Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs joined the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) at the 21st Source Orange County
Mayor Jacobs provided the opening remarks at the Hispanic Business Conference and acknowledged the small business community for their invaluable contributions to the growth and expansion of Orange County’s diverse economy.
More than 200 local businesses and approximately 12,000 attendees participated in the Expo. Orange County Government had a large presence at the event with 18 divisions represented at the County’s pavilion.
Conference attendees participated in breakout sessions featuring distinguished business speakers, economic development experts and a luncheon with business leaders from Central Florida.
Annual Hispanic Business Conference and Consumer Expo.
“The success of our Hispanic Business Conference and Consumer Expo is due in great part to the support we receive from our elected officials,” said Diana Bolivar, HCCMO President. “We thank Mayor Jacobs and Mayor Dyer for being co-honorary chairs of our conference and for participating in the Expo’s grand opening ribbon cutting celebration.”
“Our goal at the Expo was to promote our firm and the services we offer,” said Julio L. Rocha, founder of Rocha Financial Group—a local investment and insurance firm who has participated in the Expo since 2006. “We were able to secure over 200 leads of prospective clients and accomplish the growth we wanted with the support of the Hispanic Chamber.”
Volunteers shared information about available services and civic engagement opportunities. Orange County has supported the Hispanic Business and Consumer Expo for several years.
Exhibitors interacted with potential customers and many said that the event enabled them to expand their consumer base in Central Florida. “Distributors interested in our products visited our booth and we were able to sign two new distribution deals,” said Rafael Julia, DiLater that afternoon, rector of International Trade for Suiza Fruits Mayor Jacobs, City of Puerto Rico. OUC Rebates Make Efficiency Improvements Even More Rewarding Just a few minutes on OUC.com could make your home or business improvement projects a little more rewarding. That’s because there are a number of appliance and home upgrades that qualify for OUC’s improved rebate programs. Take, for instance, the new $50 rebate for Energy Star® clothes washing machines and rebates for heat pump water heaters (up to $650). Incentives on things like solar water heaters, solar screens and duct repair reflect the actual energy savings gained with each improvement. The bigger the upgrade, the more you save. Check out these examples: • HVAC rebates are now based on the size of the unit, expressed as tons, and Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating (SEER). The higher the SEER and the bigger the unit, the more you’ll save, as long as the unit is the right size for your home and business. If you “right size” the unit, you’ll see an additional rebate for that too! • Considering a solar water heater? Then consider this—if you buy from an OUC preferred solar contractor, you can receive a $1,000 point-of-sale rebate. Another option is the $550 point-of-sale rebate offered when you take advantage of low or no cost financing. • OUC will pay up to $160 on any duct repair or replacement. • Earn $1 back per square foot for new window film or solar screens. Even better, install Energy Star ® windows for a rebate of $2 per square foot. For more ways to save, visit us at www.ouc.com/rebates and download a rebate application.
